The Dean EAB Electric Acoustic Bass is the perfect starter bass guitar for the beginning bass player. Now you can play bass with or without an amp! This is a comfortable bass that's loud enough for jam sessions with acoustic guitar players, and has the on-board electronics to let you take it right up on stage. For home recording, an acoustic bass is absolutely perfect because you get an incredible sound and you don't have to spend time finding the sweet spot miking up a speaker cabinet. Features include a select spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a passive piezo pickup system. Dean is really doin' it right with the Electric Acoustic Bass.
From the Manufacturer
Here's a versatile acoustic-electric bass from Dean. It's perfect for a beginner looking to enjoy some acoustic, living-room jams, but still features a Dean preamp for plugging into your favorite bass amp or recording gear. The EAB features a spruce top, mahogany body, rosewood bridge and fretboard, pearl dot inlays, and legendary Dean construction and playability, at an affordable price.
Mahogany Body With Spruce Top
The Mahogany/Spruce combo is a pretty common choice in acoustic tonewoods, whether for basses or guitars. Mahogany boasts a wide dynamic range, perfect for ampifying your nuance and still sounding good when you lay into it.
The spruce accentuates the bass and treble end of things. It also just looks great, with the deep brown mahogany contrasting the satin-finish spruce.
34-Inch Mahogany Neck
The EAB features a mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, and classic pearl dot inlays. It boasts a rosewood bridge to match, with a contemporary "sliver" shape that's all Dean.
Celluloid Binding and Rosette
Speaking of looks, the EAB has plenty, enhanced by the celluloid rosette and body binding.
Dean Tuners
Dean diecast tuners complete the hardware ensemble, ensuring you stay in tune even when you're plugged in and rocking out.
Dean Passive Preamp
The EAB sounds great on its own, but sometimes you want to turn things up a bit (or plug into an audio interface for recording, perhaps).
The onboard Dean preamp offers basic volume and tone controls to dial in just the sound you need.
- 34-inch mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlays
- Dean passive preamp with volume and treble controls
- Celluloid rosette and body binding
- Diecast Dean tuners
- Mahogany body with Spruce top
User questions & answers
Question: | For live application, does it require an active or a passive direct box? (di box |
Answer: | There is no internal power source. It has a volume and a single tone control on the top side of the body.. I've plugged it into a bass amp and into a mic input of a house sound system. Was able to get the deep acoustic sound I was after. |
Question: | acoustically, how loud is this bass |
Answer: | About the same volume as any acoustic guitar. One must remember that the extra thickness of the strings and the "bassness" of them causes them to be less piercing than treble strings. This is an ideal bass for dormitory or apartment dwellers. Amplified it has a richer tone than solid body electric basses. |
Question: | is the top solid spruce or plywood |
Answer: | I believe it to be spruce. It definitely isn't plywood. |
Question: | Is this an adequate bass for a beginner? How close to an upright does it sound when plugged in |
Answer: | I was a pro bassist for 22 years and bought this inexpensive bass for banging around as my other basses are way too nice for that. Being the type of bass this is I recommend taking off the factory strings and throwing them away. If you want an upright type sound use flatwound strings like D'Addario Chrome flats or their black nylon wound strings. You have to play very hard to get more volume but this bass should never have roundwounds on it. For the money, this is an OK bass and the tone is warm and round with the right strings on it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Not familiar with Playmate Series. Does this fit EAB series |
Answer: | Yes. When I took it out of the package, the bag looked no bigger than one of my electric's bags. I went home and tried it on my EAB and it fit like a glove. |
Question: | Are the interior dimensions listed here correct? is the interior length only 45 inches? i have a washburn ab 10 thin model but it's 48 inches long |
Answer: | I bought this case a long, long time ago but it was a good case for my acoustic bass. Since it's a soft-shell nylon case it has a little bit of play so 3" may be tight but my guess is that it's probably a standard size for acoustic bass guitars. If the price is right for you I would make the purchase. If it doesn't fit, return it! |
Question: | Will this fit the acoustic electric guitars |
Answer: | Yes, this bag fits for acoustic electric guitars. It doesnt fit on acoustic electric bass the fretless model. |
Question: | Does it have book pack straps |
Answer: | No it doesn't have a back strap. If you using it for the Dean fretless model it wont fit either. |

Question: | Will it fit a lefty |
Answer: | I believe it's made for a bass with symmetrical bouts rather than with cutouts. The handle in the photo can make it look like it's made for a cutout bass. So it might fit a lefty but I'm not sure. Good luck. |
Question: | Before purchase, can i verify this is the right case for the dean eabc5 cutaway 5 string acoustic bass |
Answer: | Don't know about 5 string .. mine is a 4 string .. fits the case good |
Question: | I have a Dean quilted ash accoustic bass. Will this case fit it |
Answer: | According to the Dean website the Quilted Ash would take the DHS EQAB (I think that translates to: Dean Hard Shell, Exotic Quilted Ash Bass). It's possible it will fit with another case; but for the sake of a few dollars, I wonder if it's not better to go with what they say. Joe |
Question: | Can someone verify the length of this case. The Amazon listing says 44", but my Dean EAB is 51" long |
Answer: | the outside dimension of this case is 53 inches and yes the inside dimension of the case is 51. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have hooks to hang the bass |
Answer: | No. Why do you want to hang the bass? |
Question: | Does anyone know a similar price range bass that has a tuner (which works without being plugged in; unlike this one) and 2 strap buttons |
Answer: | Our model has both strap buttons. Buy from Echo tone Music on last page of twelve sellers. All Acoustic electric guitars and basses have to be plugged in for the tuner to operate. Just get clip on tuner, problem solved. |
Question: | The description states the size to be 40x5x12. Is the 40 inches the entire length including neck and body |
Answer: | My guitar measures 40 inches from the bottom of the bridge to the top of the headstock. The overall length of the guitar is 45 inches. |
Question: | can anyone tell me how loud the bass is? as in if i were to jam with a standard acoustic would i be able to hear the bass at a good volume |
Answer: | Un-amplified use? The body of this bass is smaller than a dreadnought guitar: lower bout 15 1/4 in., depth 4 1/4 in. The sound volume will be less, A-string and E-string volume is weak. |

Question: | Will it fit Epiphone PR |
Answer: | 47" X 14" at the body |
Question: | I am trying to see if the bass bag will fit my odd shaped Axl fireax guitar. Can someone add the dimensions for the bass gig bag please |
Answer: | That's what I did. I'm using for an old, large epiphone acoustic and it fits perfectly |
Question: | Will this fit my-oh nevermind. I'll just measure it and compare to the posted dimensions rather than waste space here by being lazy |
Answer: | Kelly, here are the dimensions I got when I measured. Length is 43.5". Width is 17". Depth is between 4 and 4.5". Hope this helps! |
Question: | What size is this bag |
Answer: | Thank you for your interest in the Cordoba F7. The f7 does have a truss rod to adjust the neck relief. Calido Guitars does set up the guitar before shipping so that it has the proper neck relief and action. The F7 comes with Savarez 500CJ high tension strings, but I actually prefer Savarez Tomatito T50J strings. They are also high tension and are designed for Flamenco guitars. If you order an F7 from us and request it, we will install the Tomatito T50J's for you. Sincerely, Daniel Calido Guitars |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this bag work for the fender cb-60sce acoustic bass |
Answer: | Sorry, this CAHAYA electric bass guitar measurement 49 x 15.7 x 2.4inch, it's too narrow to hold an acoustic bass guitar . |
Question: | Would i be able to take this case on an airplane with me |
Answer: | Zippers, pockets, finish and size are all good quality. Material is tough. There are a few innovative elements like the non-skid rubber foot and placement of the handle at the midpoint that make it easy to maneuver the guitar once loaded. The shoulder straps are nice if your walking and need to carry something in addition to the guitar. The padding is minimally adequate. That's not a quality issue. It's an economy issue. I only paid $16. My guitar fits perfectly - shallow bowl Adams style model |
Question: | Will this case fit a Taylor AB-3 acoustic bass |
Answer: | I think an electric guitar would not be snug in this case. It is large enough for an acoustic guitar, which is much thicker than an electric. |
Question: | Anyone know if this case fits an ibanez acoustic bass awb50ce |
Answer: | From images I have seen on the web, the archtop jazz guitar looks shallower than a dreadnought acoustic. Measure the overall length. If it's less than 41 inches, you're probably good to go. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How thick of a headstock will this fit on |
Answer: | Sounds like a packaging error. I'd contact the seller for a replacement. Or, you can probably find washers that will fit at Lowes, home depot or ace hardware, but they won't have the same nice polished finish, but you can polish them up by hand. |
Question: | My 2x2 chrome bass tuners came without the washers, so they are useless. Is there a way to get the washers |
Answer: | Depends on the model of acoustic bass. You'd have to measure the existing tuners or the holes in the headstock. When I installed these in my old Yamaha bass, I had to use a rat tail file to open up the holes in the headstock slightly. |
Question: | will these fit an Ibanez acoustic bass |
Answer: | 9/16" is standard for that style tuner. It's a shade over 14mm. |
Question: | Something seems off with the listing specs of a 9/16" hole required . I doubt that would fit into any headstock I have ever seen |
Answer: | The zipper broke just in few tries-ended buying a new hard cover |

Fender California Series
Inspired by the California lifestyle—colorful, energetic and independent—we fused our electric guitar DNA with exceptional acoustic playability and tone to craft the California Series. Instruments as individual as the artists who play them, California Series guitars have unexpected, electric-inspired style that stands out. A bold, modern twist on traditional acoustic aesthetics, they’re eye-catchingly appealing and uniquely Fender.
Fender Kingman Bass
Solid Spruce Top
The soundboard provides the most important tonal element of an acoustic guitar. Spruce is the standard choice, as few woods can beat its strength, sound, and dynamic range. Solid spruce tops are known for opening up and sounding better over time.
Fishman Presys Preamp and Tuner
Complete with tuner, frequency (bass, middle and treble) and phase controls, this collaboration in preamp design is specially voiced for each California Series body shape.
Electric Guitar-Inspired Features
The matching painted 6-in-line headstock on this guitar is immediately recognizable and exudes classic Fender vibe. The supremely comfortable slim-taper "C"-shaped mahogany Jazz Bass neck will feel familiar to electric players and is also suited to acoustic players looking for a slimmer neck.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I put nylon strings on a guitar that use to have metal |
Answer: | I've tried both, and I'd say the polyweb coated strings are less bright. I prefer a brighter sound so I go with the nanoweb. |
Question: | Are the first 3 strings nylon |
Answer: | Because Jeff Bezo's needs money to pay for his expensive divorce. |
Question: | What would be the best string size to use on a used acoustic guitar to be played by a 9 year old boy |
Answer: | I have used almost every brand of strings on my various Martin acoustics. Elixirs stand above the crowd in terms of tone quality. 80/20 bronze bring out the best but need changing about every 2-3 months max for a daily player. Phosphor-bronze have less nuanced tone but still excellent, and seem to last almost twice as long. Recommend 80/20 for the regular player who wants the most "detailed" tone, P-B for more occasional playing and longer life. Discerning players will be happy with either in any case. |
Question: | What would be the downside of putting these strings on an old classical guitar I bought for $25. Would it cause the neck to bow |
Answer: | 80/20s bronze will initially be brighter. Phosphor bronzes will be warmer. 80/20s become warmer after use more quickly and may become undesirable to use more quickly because the strings are no longer giving you the desired tone you started with. Phosphor bronzes hold their initial tone longer, but are by design, warmer. Projection (beyond gauge of the strings~heavy vs medium vs light vs extralight) and ease of fingering have much more to do with the guitar you're using, style of playing (use of a pick/how hard you're strumming/finger-picking), and setup (tuning~you drop down a half a step, the strings will have less tension and will be easier to bend). |

Question: | How do you replace the 9 volt battery on it? I just got it and already needs a new battery. No instructions on it |
Answer: | The black plate on the lower bottom bout that includes the input jack also has a battery box door. This door has the word 'Fishman' on it. Sometimes the batteries are still in their original packaging. You may just need to open the battery box door, take off thin film of plastic and correctly re install. Keeping the batteries in their packaging helps to ensure you are shipped a good battery. Also, please remember to unplug bass when not in use, or it will drain the 9 Volt battery. |
Question: | Does this bass guitar have an input for a instrument cable so that I can connect it to an amp |
Answer: | Yes, there is a female 1/4" input jack located on lower bout. (Not pictured by Fender or most other sellers) This input jack is part of a discretely placed curved plate that also allows easy access to change the 9 volt battery used to power the Fishman onboard tuner and pre amp. A 90 degree right angle male 1/4" cable is recommended so if you happen to set bass down, all the stress is not on a straight cable connector or the basses input jack. Plug into a Rumble bass amp, acoustic amp, PA, or recording equipment for many hours of enjoyment. Unplug when not being used to keep battery from draining. |
Question: | Does this come with a case |
Answer: | Unfortunately, this Fender Acoustic Bass does not include a case or bag. However Fender does have a black nylon gig bag they recommend under part # 099-1535-206. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Which set would be good for drop B |
Answer: | A larger string gauge will produce higher tension. When you drop your tuning that higher tension will help retain note clarity and power. Go for the Power Slinky or buy an even larger 5 string set and use only the biggest 4 strings. You'll have to adjust the truss rod and bridge afterwards. |
Question: | What’s the length in inches of these strings |
Answer: | Unless otherwise noted, all of our bass strings are 48" in length and designed for basses with a scale length of 34". |
Question: | Will these work on rbx jm2 John Myung signature |
Answer: | Hi there, If the scale length of the bass is around 34 or 35 inches it should work. Also John Myung's name appears on the back as an endorsed artists for the strings. Hope this helps! |
Question: | What are good for rock |
Answer: | Slinky are basically made for Rock! Bright, but also well rounded tones. Hope that helps. |
