There is another Model of this Explorer Bike Rack made for bikes with disc brake. This model has a spring-loaded cantilever section hinged on the back end of the rack. This section helps hold small items onto the rack without the use of bungee cords. I think this is what the term "without springs" refers to. The regular Topeak Explorer Bike Rack do not have this cantilever section. Cargo on this rack needs to be secured down on the rack with bungee cords, rope, etc. A picture of this Topeak Explorer Bike Rack for bikes with disc-brake can be found on their product web site.
