12 best planet waves guitar capo

Planet Waves is a well-known brand that produces a variety of musical instrument accessories, including guitar capos. A guitar capo is a device used by guitarists to clamp down on the fretboard of their guitar, effectively shortening the length of the strings and raising their pitch. This allows musicians to play chords and notes in different keys without having to re-tune their guitar. Planet Waves offers a range of guitar capos that cater to different needs and preferences.

Some key features of Planet Waves guitar capos may include:

  1. Versatility: Planet Waves capos are designed to fit various types of guitars, including acoustic, electric, and classical guitars. They typically have an adjustable mechanism to accommodate different neck widths and string gauges.

  2. Easy to Use: These capos are generally user-friendly, allowing guitarists to quickly and securely attach them to the desired fret without causing any harm to the instrument's neck or strings.

  3. Durable Materials: Planet Waves capos are often constructed from high-quality materials such as stainless steel or lightweight aluminum to ensure durability and longevity.

  4. Adjustability: Many of their capos feature adjustable tension or pressure settings, allowing musicians to fine-tune the amount of pressure applied to the strings, which can affect the tone and playability.

  5. Creative Designs: Some Planet Waves capos come with creative designs, colors, and finishes, providing not only functional benefits but also aesthetic appeal.

  6. Ergonomics: The design of these capos is often optimized for comfort and ease of use during extended playing sessions.

  7. Additional Features: Depending on the model, some Planet Waves capos may include additional features such as built-in tuners or quick-release mechanisms for rapid key changes.

Overall, Planet Waves guitar capos are popular among guitarists for their quality, durability, and ease of use. They are designed to enhance the playing experience and offer versatility for musicians across different genres and playing styles.

Product description

  • Micrometer tension adjustment assures buzz-free in-tune performance at every fret
  • Single hand operation
  • Aircraft grade aluminum construction
  • Works for 6 or 12 string acoustic and electric guitars; also available in a classical guitar version

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this for yamaha pacifica 112j electric guitar
Answer: Sure, the tension is adjustable and so it would work fine on an electric guitar.
Question: Will this work with a 2" nut and a radiused (24") fingerboard
Answer: I don't have that particular configuration but I'll give you some information and I hope it helps. I got the standard steel-string model for my (standard) old Martin and the Classical model for my Taylor 712 with a 1 3/4" nut and a somewhat flatter fingerboard (I don't know the radius). The standard actually works on the Taylor but the Classical model seems to give me fewer tuning issues with the 6th string. The PW Classical model actually has a slight curve so it might be fine with a 24" radius but I couldn't say for sure.
Question: Is there a Shipping cost
Answer: Shipping costs depend on the seller. If you look at the offers the shipping cost is directly below the price shown. In addition, before checkout the entire cost of everything is shown. There are over 40 different sellers so there are a lot of different shipping costs.
Question: I know there are capos specifically made for mandolins/banjos, but I was wondering if this was also adaptable for intonation purposes. Thanx
Answer: I've used mine on several of my mandolin with success. Intonation was very good, so much so that I plan on getting the model specifically for mandolin/banjo from Planet Wave to not have it be so large and hitting my hand. It's perfect for my 6 and 12 string guitars, though. I have Dunlop and Shubb models that are very good, but I'm enjoying the Planet Wave design and intonation BEST.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use this as a partial capo on a 6 string to get 4 strings
Answer: The Planet Wave NS "Drop Tune" Capo can do both 4 or 5 outer strings on my acoustic guitars. I've modified another one to do 3 outer strings.
Question: Finish Damage? I used it once, worked GREAT! but when I took it off it left a streak where the finish came off my neck
Answer: This may be due to the type of finish used on the guitar. Most guitars are finished using Polyurethane lacquer - it's hard, easy to apply, and can be applied in states and countries where regulation prohibits other types of finish such as nitrocellulose. It does not react with vinyl or rubber, and is found on guitars of all price levels. The same cannot be said of nitrocellulose (or the celluloid used in some vintage pickguards and picks), which is very reactive and care must be taken when choosing what products to use on instruments finished in nitro lacquer. This isn't a flaw in the product design or materials, but it may well prove worthwhile for potential buyers to check whether their instrument is finished in Nitrocellulose lacquer or Polyurethane and investigate products accordingly. If no finish type is stated on a new instrument, it is generally safe to assume polyurethane, in which case most products should present no risk.
Question: does it need a reinforce neck
Answer: It doesn't need anything. Works great.
Question: I play live shows and need a QUICK change, like one movement, one hand, one second. Will this work
Answer: After a few times using it, it does become pretty fast to put it on/take it off/move it, using a quick turn of the tension screw with one hand ... but I don't really think it's going to ever work the way you're hoping (i.e. one movement, one second). Realistically, it would be more like a 2-3 second change at best. The Kyser would be perfect for that, but in my experience, it has too much tension and throws the tuning off. The Shubb ukulele capo might be a good compromise ... adjustable tension and quicker clamp/release.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this model work on a mandolin
Answer: Yes! It's great! Much better clamp than the spring-loaded designs. It's small and doesn't get in the way of your playing! I use the uke size for my octave mandolin.
Question: is this capo big enough to use on the first 4 strings of a guitar? Ive got "This town needs guns" guitar tab bookandforhalfofthesongsit uses bothtypes
Answer: This is very hard to answer since the width of the fingerboard and string spacing varies from guitar to guitar. Calls are not that expensive so I would suggest buying a guitar capo for this usage.
Question: What is the maximum reach of this capo? i have a banjo with with a slightly wider neck (the paige 1.497" capo won't fit). what about this? thanks
Answer: The maximum usable length of the crossbar is about 1-7/16", so I don't think it will fit your banjo. Have you tried a Shubb? If you like this design, there is a Planet Waves NS capo for the classical guitar that might work.
Question: Hello, owners: Could someone compare this to the Shubb *Deluxe* Banjo Capo? I tried posting the link, but it doesn't fit in the character allowance
Answer: The Shubb is probably a better capo, IMO. This one barely gets enough pressure on the strings though I like the screw mechanism for tightening. I use it on a banjo - no idea if it would be adequate for a mandolin.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use this capo with a ukulele
Answer: YES, especially because the tension adjusts it works just fine!!
Question: Does the tri-action capo do Drop-D tuning
Answer: Hi Im an acoustic guitar tech and touring musician. I don't completely understand the question, since the tuning is based on the guitar strings be set to "drop D" nothing to do with the capo.If you set your guitar to lowering the E string to a D( which is drop D) putting the capo on the 2nd fret will give you the same effect but just on a higher pitch. It would then be drop E tuning, fourth fret drop F tuning etc...the capo is great and can handle any tuning to set the guitar at.If you want a drop D tuning( in actual pitch if D while using a capo, youd have to tune down the guitar a whole step then lower the D 6th string to a C and put the capo on the second fret..Hope this wasnt to complicated.Short answer: Yes Good luck
Question: Does this capo work for nylon string "classical" guitars with the wider necks
Answer: Yes, it will work on those guitars. Thanks. Jack / Jax Music Supply
Question: Will this work on a 12 string guitar
Answer: Don't know what 12 string guitars the other answers refer to but I play almost exclusively twelve string acoustics, and this works for me at least up to the 7th fret (that's as high as I use it). As someone else says, it's 2.25" wide, so that is the limiting factor. Sure, as with all capo's on 12 strings, you need to have enough tension to pull down the big fat low E far enough that the octave string next to it is also pulled down, which does result in excessive bending of the low E. But at least with this capo you can dial that in. I've always used a fixed tension capo in the past that presses far too hard on the strings and pulls the strings too far out of tune. This capo is much, much better!

User questions & answers

Question: How is the ns artist different than the ns tri-action
Answer: The design of the arm which is gripped and moved to release the capo is different. The tri-action design is easier to move requiring 1/3 less force. This makes it easier to release and move the capo.
Question: Does the tension adjuster really help keep the guitar in tune? Most capos detune the guitar
Answer: The tension may not actually be what is detuning your guitar. Different fret boards have a different radius, so the curvature of the capo used may make more of a difference than the tightness (not that the tightness of a capo doesn't detune guitars, it totally can!). The type of capo that works on a Martin may not work well on a Taylor, etc. I have a Larrivee OM-03, that has a slightly less curved fret board than other guitars, and this capo works well for that guitar. I also have a Paige capo that works well on my Voyage-Air, but is terrible for my Larrivee (even though the tension on it is also adjustable).
Question: Is it genuine
Answer: I cant speak for other sellers, but shipped and sold by our company FretNation is a brand new genuine product from D'Addario / Planet Waves. We are a full line authorized dealer.
Question: Does this work on a 12 string guitar
Answer: I've never owned a 12-string so I'm afraid I can only say "why not?". And that's "Mudd - with two D's", right. You gave away your secret identity even without a decoder ring.

User questions & answers

Question: Whats the difference between the Shubbs S1 and the Deluxe S1 capo ? Thanks, Mick
Answer: Shubb "S1" one size of the "Deluxe" model and is suitable for steel string guitars, including electric guitars, with necks of standard width. If you have an extra-wide neck or want to use it at a point on the neck that is more than 2" in width, the "S3" is recommended. It should be noted that both of these are made in the USA. The nickel-plated models are called Shubb "Standard" and the corresponding sizes are "C1n" and "C3n." The nickel-plated models, however, are made in China. I purchased a stainless steel Shubb "Deluxe," the "S3" model, and am very pleased with the quality. I answer this question because I myself wrote Shubb customer service with some similar questions and thought I'd share, since some of the other answers are misleading.
Question: Will this capo work for prs se custom
Answer: Not sure the neck width one the PRS... works well with my 74 Strat and acoustics.
Question: Is this capo for 6 string guitar
Answer: Yes, I believe so. Works on nut widths of 1 3/4" or less. For wider nut widths, 1 7/8" for example, use the "12 string" version. I have a few and they work great.
Question: Will this work on an electric guitar or is it only for acoustic
Answer: Hello from the distributor,If the guitar's neck has a flat fingerboard, this capo will generally work, but if your guitar's neck has a radius of 7.25 inches you will want this Shubb instead:https://www.amazon.com/Shubb-Deluxe-GC-30E-Radius-Electric/dp/B00TDMA0TW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487379132&sr=8-1&keywords=shubb+gc-30eTom MolyneauxSaga Musical Instruments

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with classical guitar neck
Answer: It is a good capo, but I don’t think it will work on a classical guitar neck. The capo isn’t wide enough. I believe a standard classical neck is about 2.04” (52mm) width at the nut, which should be just under 2.4” (60mm) at the 12th fret. I just measured the capo inside width just under the rubber and it’s 2.125” The rubber is exactly 2”. The top latches to a hook milled into the body and needs about 1/16” gap to squeeze the two sides inward to release the latch.
Question: How is this Capo differ from a Paige capo at a third of the price
Answer: As a point of reference, I've been using the Paige capo for a couple years now. In fact, I own 3 of them and they all work the same as the D'Addario is advertised to work. I have enough money left over to buy another Paige if I so desired and would still have some cash in hand and a capo on every guitar.
Question: Any idea where this is made
Answer: China, as is the Shubb F1, but 2 fine moderately priced capos nonetheless.
Question: Will this capo work on a 12-string or is it for 6-string only
Answer: 12 string fine. Even bass.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this the best capo to use with a D
Answer: I do not have a Shubb capo, but recently bought a G7 capo for 12 string. I am extremely pleased with how that works on my Martin D12-28. No buzz, easy to use.
Question: This amazon listing offers two versions a "packs" & a ".2020" - neither listed on shubb website. what models does amz sell
Answer: I don’t recall the model names, but I bought stainless steel versions for my six and twelve string instruments - both from Amazon. I’ve been playing for over 50 years and they are the best capos I’ve ever owned.
Question: Can I use this for both acoustic and a strat
Answer: This works on the first few Frets on acoustic guitar. It does not work whete the neck is thicker on acoustic up near the seventh fret. It is not large enough for higher frets on acoustic guitars.
Question: Will this work for my yamaha f325 d and if it doesn't any other recommended models
Answer: yep it will work fine. Thanks Darryl - Megatone Music
