8 best sounding violins

"Sounding violins" isn't a standard term in the context of violins or musical instruments. However, if you're referring to making violins sound better or discussing components related to the sound of violins, here's some relevant information:

  1. Violin Construction: The sound of a violin is primarily determined by its construction. A violin consists of various parts, including the top plate (soundboard), back plate, sides (ribs), neck, bridge, and soundpost. The choice of wood, the shape of these components, and the craftsmanship involved greatly influence the instrument's sound.

  2. Strings: The choice of violin strings is crucial for its sound. Different strings produce varying tones and responsiveness. Some violinists prefer gut strings for a warm and traditional sound, while others opt for steel or synthetic strings for a brighter and more powerful tone.

  3. Bow: The bow used with a violin also affects its sound. The type of wood, weight, and tension of the bow can impact the articulation, volume, and tone produced by the violin.

  4. Setup and Adjustments: Violinists often work with luthiers (instrument makers and repairers) to optimize their instruments' sound. Adjustments to the bridge, soundpost, and tailpiece can make significant differences in the violin's tone and playability.

  5. Resonance and Projection: A well-made violin will resonate and project sound effectively. The f-holes on the soundboard allow sound waves to escape, contributing to the instrument's projection and tone.

  6. Pickups and Electronics: Some violinists use pickups or microphones to amplify their instrument's sound in live performances. These can be attached to or embedded in the violin to capture the acoustic sound and transmit it to amplifiers or sound systems.

  7. Accessories: Violinists may use accessories like chin rests, shoulder rests, and fine tuners to enhance their comfort and control, indirectly affecting the instrument's sound by allowing the player to perform more effectively.

  8. Bowing Technique and Playing Style: The sound of a violin is heavily influenced by the skill and technique of the player. Different bowing techniques, vibrato, and fingerings can produce a wide range of tones and expressions.

  9. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as keeping the violin clean, restringing it when necessary, and ensuring proper humidity levels, can preserve the instrument's sound quality over time.

In summary, the sound of a violin is a complex interplay of various factors, including its construction, strings, bow, setup, and the technique of the player. Musicians and luthiers work together to optimize these elements to achieve the desired tone and sound quality for a violin.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the violin come already strung with strings in place
Answer: I don't know the warranty but the quality of the steel is not good. for light steel it works but i have bent one of the bits (it did not break)
Question: Does violin arrive with strings intact? Meaning are they already placed on the violin or do you have to do it yourself
Answer: Hi, Thanks for reaching out. We just checked our remaining inventory and the 1/16" bit was not missing in any cases. Did notice the bit was not always in it's slot. We had to dig around and find inside case. If you are in fact missing a bit, you can send us a message and we'll have a replacement sent out.
Question: Does this violin work with headphones? I'm looking for a silent violin, one I don't have to connect to amps and then to headphones
Answer: I just received the 15 piece set (10037A), and the box is marked Made in China.

Product features

1. Easily leave the strings

Loosen the strings slightly to avoid breaking the strings when placing the bridge. You can release the violin strings by rotating the tuning button at the end of the violin.

2. Place a bridge between the F holes

The F-hole is two f-shaped holes at the end of the violin head. If you push the bridge under the strings, make sure it is between the two F holes.

The bridge is at a 90 degree

The side of the bridge facing the violin strings should be at an angle of approximately 90 degrees. The other side of the bridge should be slightly tilted forward.

4. Tighten the strings

Now you can tighten the strings again to hold the buttons in place. Carefully rotate each knob on the bottom of the violin.

Practice Bow

The new bow is not able to sound, you need to rub the rosin powder to have a sound.

Tuning the violin

The acoustic violin set comes with a tuner that allows the player to tune the violin.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the violin have the same color finish as the one being played in the advertisement video
Answer: Yes, same finish, this violin is great...its a beautiful piece of art. I suck at playing it, so cannot comment on the sound but it sure is a sweet instrument. Hope this helps.
Question: do you have any full-size
Answer: Hi, James. We apologize for not having these available today since the level of demand has caught us off guard. We should be able to restock these in the full size within the next week. Feel free to contact us by email, and we can add you to the list of people who want to know when they are immediately available. ~Heather 1.800.779.0242
Question: is the Richard Bunnel violin made in china
Answer: While I cannot speak for the parts that make up the violin, the assembly is done by professional luthiers in the USA at Kennedy Violins. The instrument is leagues above any instrument that comes straight from China. This is the absolute top-tier of beginner violins, and it begs the question: at which point is a violin no longer a beginner instrument.
Question: How do you determine the size to pick? Measure the length of your arm
Answer: The 4/4 size is the full sized violin for anyone Junior High age or older. All of the rest are for children. 1/4 is for preschool and kindergarten age; 1/2 is for lower elementary; 3/4 is for upper elementary. Most children in 5th or 6th grade should be able to handle the full sized violin which they will need to do when they get older. However, small children may stay in the 3/4 size even into middle school.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you plug this into a computer to record/mix with software
Answer: That is part of the wood base design. It is not a hook and is more subtle in actuality. No problems in the performance or use of the instrument.
Question: Can a left handed player use this violin
Answer: We set up and test all of our instruments in our shop, so if the YEV violin is ordered through our seller store on Amazon, our luthier will stand up the bridge, shape it as needed, and perform a standard instrument setup (includes testing the electronics) before it ships out.
Question: What does they warranty cover
Answer: The YEV104 NT is the 4-string version; the YEV105 NT is the 5-string version (natural).
Question: This may be a dumb question... but are you able to play with the headphones on so that only you can hear while practicing
Answer: Hi, the Yamaha YEV104 NT at this price does not include a bow or case, but does include the violin, strings, and a structured cardboard box.
Question: what is the "hook" like thing coming out of the neck of the instrument
Answer: It depends on the persons size. I would take her to a music shop and see what you can learn. If I were to take a guess I would say go with the 3/4, but it really depends on the size of the child. If the 3/4 is too large, it wouldn't be for too long. The scale on the smaller violins is shorter making the reach easier for smaller hands. A music teacher at school would be a good source to settle the matter. This violin is inexpensive so if you get the wrong size it is not a big loss.
Question: Does it come with assembled and ready to play
Answer: Out of the box, just tune the violin (tuner not included), tighten the bow and rosin it for about 10-15 minutes, and the violin is set.
Question: is this a 5 string or 4 string violin
Answer: Style 2 is lighter than style 1 because of the missing corner, however, they are not much different in the weight.
Question: Dose this come with a bow
Answer: Yes, as far as I know. Mine did and only took minor tuning.
Question: I know nothing about violins... I am purchasing for my 8 year old daughter, would I go with 1/2 size, or 3/4? Thank you
Answer: Everything that is in the picture comes in the case.
Question: Is it ready to play out of the box, or is some kind of setup required
Answer: I got the 4/4 size however my grandaughter has the 7/8 and she is 10. The violins are so close in size its hard to tell the difference however her bow in lenght is shorter.
Question: Is Style 1 heavier than Style 2 (since one more wing)? Thanks
Answer: 5 -7 yrs about 18"arm span 1/47-9yrs about 20"arm span 1/2
Question: Does it come with strings
Answer: The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting.

Cecilio Electric Violin

Whether you're practicing, recording in studio or performing on stage, the Cecilio electric violin outfit offers excellent functionality and style. It provides violinists of all levels with the ability to practice confidently without disturbing others. The outfit features a 1/8 output jack that allows you to connect to most guitar amps or PA systems (1/4 to 1/8 cable included), volume control that allow you to choose the ambience you want, headphone jack for practice and a line-in jack for practice with a background track. This violin package includes a well-padded lightweight hard case, a bow, rosin, bridge, pickup, aux cable, and headphones. Great for Student, Intermediate and Professional Violinist.

How to choose violin sizes

Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.

To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.

If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

Headway

Based on 56 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Amplify any viola or violin easily without modifications! Headway's The Band Violin Pickup System gives you a compact, durable, and easy-to-install pickup capable of providing electric amplification for your violin or viola without the need for any destructive modifications to the instrument itself. The benefits of The Band are many: You'll get far greater volume levels before feedback compared to using a microphone. In addition to cutting feedback, The Band reduces bowing noise and body sounds and gives you the ability to filter out excessive treble. Thanks to The Band violin and viola pickup you'll have more freedom to use the stage when you're no longer tied down to your microphone stand during performances. Just think how much faster you'll get through sound checks with this unique band-shaped pickup on your violin or viola! The increased headroom (volume) before feedback offered by The Band pickup enables you to monitor your violin without problems from modest to high volumes. The Band wraps around your violin under the strings and is firmly secured with 2 Velcro hook-and-loop strips in a 3-step process: 1. Pass the end of The Band pickup tube under the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece and wrap it around the violin's waist. 2. Strap the 2 ends of the tube firmly around the violin's back and secure with the provided Velcro strip. 3. Wrap the other provided Velcro tape is around the first to provide additional security for the mounted pickup. Headway's The Band instant pickup works equally well on violins and violas and is covered with a stylish black material that will not detract from your instrument's appearance.

  • Easy instant fitting and transferability
  • Warmth and clarity of tone
  • Reduced feedback and body boom
  • No bowing nose
  • No batteries required - Plugs directly into mixing desk or combo amp

User questions & answers

Question: Do I need to purchase a cable to attach from the pick up to my mixer
Answer: Yes, you will need to purchase a music cable (1/4") separately.
Question: Does it come with the chord to plugin to the amp
Answer: Hello Leanne! The violin pickup doesn't come with a cable. Only the electronic pickup itself.
Question: Would this fit a 1/4 size violin
Answer: No, it is meant for 4/4 size violins. Headway can make it for 3/4 or 1/2 sized as well, but they do not advertise a 1/4 version.
Question: Can this be used on a solid body violin to make it an electric violin
Answer: Hi Morgan. Whatever vibration that comes out from that solid body will be amplified. In your case if there isn't much vibration coming out from the body then I think it would still pick up the vibrations from the bridge.
