User questions & answers
Question: | Bought the aq-16 uilasinglestring-tenor 4th expecting a low g. it is not a 'fat' string like i was expecting. it is a thin (wound). is that correct |
Answer: | I started using the rosin in about December, 2016 (that is about is about 5 months). I apply it about once weekly. I rotate the rosin cake so I use the entire face of the cake. To date, I have not used enough rosin to wear the cake flat over the entire face. I believe the half-cake I purchased will last at least three years. More important, to me, is the fact that the resin does not produce dust as is the case with many other brands. |
Question: | What is it mean by a "set"? Is it just the 4 strings or 4 sets of 4 strings? I see other products not marketed as a "set" that come with all 4 strings |
Answer: | This rosin does draw a nice tone and I am pleased with it. I had used Hill for years but found it hard to obtain when I went back to my violin so tried Andrea and am pleased. |
Question: | My tenor uke is new. Can I just replace the 4th string with a low G string |
Answer: | Thus is for a 1/2, mini cake. |
Question: | Can these strings do a mandolin tuning for a Uke. If not what would you recommend |
Answer: | They are both good brands. The Andrea is more expensive. The judgement of which is better is very personal and will change from one player to the other. |

Product description
The New Nylgut is the first product developed and patented by Aquila.
The New Nylgut is nor common Nylon or Carbon (Fluocarbon fishing line or PVDF), or a mix of them. It is a plastic compound of three different components
Compared to Nylon, the New Nylgut produces a better sound and stays in tune better, this because the moisture absorption is less of .1% against the 2.0% of Nylon normally employed for the musical strings (i.e. Du Pont Tynex polyammide 6-12).
Due to the higher density, similar to that of pure gut (1.30 gr/cm3), the New Nylgut produces a better sound than Nylon and it is not so metallic like those of the so- called ‘Carbon’ (Fluorocarbon) PVDF strings.
In other words, the New Nylgut is probably the first genuine syntetic gut in the world.
The New Nylgut assures:
a better sound than Nylon or PVDF, similar to the genuine gut strings;
a more accurated fret-intonation due to the well gauged material;
a very stable intonation under moisture changes.
- Pack of 2 Aquila New Nylgut Strings for Concert Ukulele
- With FREE felt picks (2 pieces)
- Standard A-E-C-G Tuning (High G on 4th String)
- Truly Remarkable Stability of Intonation Under Moisture Changes
- Promoptness of Attack, Excellent Performance
User questions & answers
Question: | What's the difference between concert, soprano, and tenor? Is know that soprano is higher pitched than tenor, but what about concert |
Answer: | Yes,great sounding wound string but has a short life compared to the other strings in the set. Buy three or four xtra low g’s. |
Question: | What is difference,low G ,HighG string |
Answer: | One set of strings is: four strings that are each the notes for 1A string, 2E string, 3C string and 4G string. They will also be color coded so there is no confusion as to the order they will be strung over the fret board. The soprano, concert and tenor sizes of 'ukuleles can have the option of using a low G steal or a high G string. A low G string will have a fuller guitar sound to it and a high G will be light and bright sounding. Never put all steal strings onto a 'uke . You will crack the neck. Hope this helps. One set equals 4 strings in the package. |
Question: | Can I I use this on My soprano ukelele |
Answer: | Yes, you can and the low G is a lovely sound! |
Question: | Is each string packaged in a a separate envelope |
Answer: | Mandolin tuning is GDAE, not GDEA. Mando standard tuning is G3-D4-A4-E5 and typically has a 13" to 13 7/8" scale and have as many as 29 frets Tenor "low G" tuning is G3-C4-E4-A4 and use a scale that's about 17" and have 17 to 19 frets. The difference in scale length has some additional challenges. You can probably bring the C4 string up to D4 pretty easily. You'll need to lower the E4 string to A4, which means you'll probably need a thicker string and may need to open up the slot on the nut or risk cracking the nut. The real challenge will be bringing the A(4) string up more than an octave to E(5). As far as "can you do it?" goes: yes, you can bring the uke up to mandolin tuning, but it adds a lot of stress to the instrument that it wasn't designed for (depending on the instrument, you can collapse the top or tear off the bridge). You'll also find that the nylon strings won't like being pulled that taut and they'll stretch and/or break. A steel string will give you a better shot at achieving an E(5) pitch, but you risk damaging the instrument. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these high G or low G tuned strings |
Answer: | In regards to strings? I am not sure whether there is strings for concert size, but I have tenor uke also and tenor uke , because of bigger size, have thicker and longer strings. As you may know if you can equate soprano size ukeas Violin, concert size as viola, and tenor as cello and Baritone uke as bass in an orchestra, you can get the idea that as you move up, the size gets larger and produce lower notes. So the soprano string is thinnest and produce highest pitched notes. |
Question: | are the strings different in thickness |
Answer: | the low G is a wound string which is tuned one octave lower than the high G. it is tuned lower the C string while to high G is tuned higher than the C. Guitar players tend to like low G tuning as it is more like guitar. I buy single low g strings which allows versatility. |
Question: | Are the strings white, or transparent |
Answer: | I don't see why not. I've never put tenor strings on a soprano. Other than that, they are good strings. |
Question: | facing the ukelele left to right what colors go where? first time putting strings on this ukelele |
Answer: | All 4 strings are in the same envelope. However, they are separated, taped, and individually labeled. |

Question: | Does this string fit in the nut without any modifications required? I see some questions about it being thinner than the other strings |
Answer: | Aquila 114u is for the Tenor sized ukulele. Aquila 112u is for the Concert size. Aquila 110u is for the Soprano (smallest) ukulele. Each of the three string sets contains the same four strings: "high" G, C, E, and A but the length of each string is fitted for each respective sized uke. |
Question: | What do the numbers ( 15, 16) and the letters ( AQ vs. U) when ordering uke strings |
Answer: | Yes, it came prestrung with Aquila strings. |
Question: | what are the string thicknesses |
Answer: | If i'm not mistaken, the KAA-15T is a laminated wood uke whereas the KA-T is solid wood. Buy you might want to investigate that further. My KAA-15T sounds great and for the money, is a great deal. It comes with a very nice case, tuner and a dvd(which i havent watched). For a 100 bucks its well worth it. |
Question: | Can I use it with a soprano or concert ukulele |
Answer: | It is zippered. It opens easily and the case is good quality |

The Aquila Sugar Ukulele strings are made using a blend with a recently discovered plastic material derived from sugar- cane. With a transparent look, the sound of these strings is clearly brilliant, clean and prompt. Unlike the Fluorocarbon strings, these strings have an excellent vibrato and a significant timbre variation when playing very close to the bridge and then up on the sound hole. In other words, they contain in their extremes the sweetness and sing ability of Nylon and the clearness and promptness typical of Fluorocarbon. Another important property is the characteristic sustain, which by scientific measurements is superior to any type of string currently available in the market. Another feature checked is the sound projection: our scientific tests have shown that it is superior to that of the Fluorocarbon strings. Although the surface is extremely smooth, the grip on the fingers is remarkable. The material is very clear and transparent similar to a crystal-glass. Aquila 154u.
