13 best pearl hi hats

Pearl hi-hats are a type of musical instrument commonly used in drum sets and percussion setups. They are a crucial component of the drum kit, producing a distinct and versatile range of sounds. Here's what you should know about Pearl hi-hats:

  1. Definition: Pearl hi-hats consist of a pair of cymbals mounted on a stand that allows them to be played together or separately. These cymbals are known as the "hi-hat top" and the "hi-hat bottom." When you press your foot on a hi-hat pedal, it brings the two cymbals together to create sound, and releasing the pedal allows them to open, altering the sound.

  2. Sound Characteristics: Pearl hi-hats, like other cymbals, come in various sizes and materials, each producing its unique sound. The size, weight, and thickness of the cymbals affect factors such as volume, pitch, and sustain. Drummers can choose from a wide range of Pearl hi-hats to achieve the specific sound they desire.

  3. Construction: Pearl is known for its high-quality cymbal manufacturing. Pearl hi-hats are typically made from various alloys of bronze, including B8 and B20 bronze, which are common choices for cymbal construction. These alloys are selected for their tonal characteristics and durability.

  4. Size: Pearl hi-hats are available in different sizes, with the most common sizes being 13 inches and 14 inches in diameter. The choice of size can influence the sound, with larger hi-hats generally producing a fuller, louder sound, and smaller hi-hats offering a tighter, crisper sound.

  5. Styles: Pearl offers a range of hi-hats designed for various musical styles and preferences. For example, some Pearl hi-hats are designed for rock and heavy music, while others are crafted for jazz or more nuanced playing styles. The choice of hi-hats can greatly impact a drummer's overall sound and performance.

  6. Mounting and Adjustment: Pearl hi-hats are typically mounted on a hi-hat stand, which allows drummers to adjust the tension and height of the cymbals using a foot pedal and various hardware adjustments. This flexibility enables drummers to customize their playing experience.

  7. Durability: Pearl hi-hats are known for their durability and longevity, making them a popular choice among drummers who require reliable and consistent performance in various musical settings.

  8. Accessories: Drummers may complement their Pearl hi-hats with additional accessories such as clutch mechanisms, felts, and washers to fine-tune the sound and ensure smooth operation.

In summary, Pearl hi-hats are an essential component of a drum set, providing drummers with a wide range of sonic possibilities. Their construction, size, and style can be tailored to suit different musical genres and personal preferences, making them a versatile choice for drummers of all levels and styles.

User questions & answers

Question: How easy is it to remove the leg assembly altogether?? i use a double bass clamp to mount my hi-hat stand to my 2nd kick and need the legs off
Answer: Seems pretty easy. Mine has Allen set screws to remove pedal mount and then drum key will remove legs. This isn't a sturdy stand. Great for light jazz play. I use it on a Martini set. I have a true double bass set and wouldn't think of putting it on that set. To me if you're using double bass, your pounding on stuff. This stand wouldn't hold up.
Question: Is this stand prone to wobbling if playing successive splash techniques eg. how Jojo Mayer plays 1/8 or 1/16 note rhythms on hihat
Answer: This is the most wobbling stand I've ever played. It looks nice, and it's light weight, but after couple of gigs I stopped using it.
Question: What is the playing height range, how low in particular can it be played
Answer: Height to the top of the felt washer that supports the bottom cymbal: 28 1/2 inches at the lowest setting, up to about 37 inches at the highest. This is an excellent HH stand, very well made with smooth action, but not quite as light as the DW Ultralite.
Question: Is the spring tension adjustable on this hi hat
Answer: Yes it is fully adjustable like their other hi hat stand. It actually gives a fairly quick response lightweight stand. I have been very happy with this, and the other flat base stands I bought in this line. I love the flexibility of being able to leave them as a flat base, or flop the bottom so it's more of a traditional tripod base. I have used them both ways.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work with VH-13's
Answer: Yeah any standard-hi hat stand will
Question: Is the Long footboard harder to play than a regular one
Answer: I honestly hadn't noticed that it was a long footboard. Plays very well. Nice action. I use the ball of my foot. Maybe others play differently, but this works very well for me.
Question: Can the part where i put my foot on swivel? i mean can i move it left and right? i need space for my double bass pedal
Answer: The pedal can be moved left or right, you may have to adjust the legs to fit the area you need.
Question: Is there a Two-Legged option
Answer: I don't know if there is a two-legged option with this model, but the three legged one I bought works extremely well for double kick pedal. It swivels in both directions and I like it just as well as my two-legged Tama hi-hat stand (which cost almost triple the price of the Pearl H930. Hope this helps.
