User questions & answers

Question: whats the eqiv.size bach
Answer: According to Mouthpiece Express Specs, the Bobby Shew Lead has a cup diameter of 16.54mm. The Bach 2 series mouthpieces have diameters of 16.50mm. The Bach 2's don't offer a shallow cup, at least from mouthpiece express. Schilke 12's are about the same size ( 16.5mm) as the Bobby Shew lead and Yamaha and Schilke have some similarities due to joint venture in the past. Marcinkiewicz also has a Bobby Shew Lead model with a cup diameter of 16.81mm. Check out the Mouthpiece Express.Com comparison chart for other options.
Question: Will it fit a jean paul trumpet
Answer: I'm not familiar with the Jean Paul which I see is a student model. It depends on the taper of the mouthpiece receiver. It fits fine in my King Silver Flair, Getzen Eterna Severinsen and Besson 1000. My best guess would be to say "probably but not guaranteed".
Question: how does the bobby shew mouth piece compare to the Schilke 14A4A
Answer: The BS Lead is more like 12 or 13A4a but with a rounder rim. Schilke 14A4a is bigger, like a Bach 3C, with a flat rim and a tighter throat. There is also a Bobby Shew Jazz which is the same size as the lead but with a deeper cup for a darker sound. But I am no authority.
Question: Will this fit a jupiter trumpet
Answer: If it's a standard receiver it should.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a genuine Yamaha? I see it ships from Japan
Answer: I purchased it when my son was 10 months old, he is 21 months old now and still plays with it. We’ve never had an issue with it.
Question: Does it come with a case
Answer: No
Question: Is this trumpet a beginner or an upgrade trumpet
Answer: Yes, they can blow in or out on the mouthpieces to make a sound. There are two different mouthpieces that make two different sounds.
Question: The pistons, piston caps, and buttons are said here to be "new." Does that mean that this is a refurbished, used instrument
Answer: This was a very well made, sturdy toy that probably cleaned really well. However, the noise it made was so obnoxious that I hid it from my grandson, then actually threw it away because it sounded SO horrible. And a child will just blow it and blow it. There was nothing musical about it. Just a horrendous, loud bleep!

Yamaha Regular Synthetic Valve Oil, 60ml

Based on 233 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Yamaha drew upon decades of experience manufacturing horns for some of the most demanding players in the world to create a line of 100% synthetic oils designed specifically for musical instruments. In addition to producing smooth action and fast response, the oils protect valves and valve casings from corrosion with a long-lasting coating on pistons and other moving components.

  • Regular viscosity formula is good for all around use in any piston valves.
  • 60ml dropper-top bottle with a childproof cap.
  • Yamaha synthetic valve oil is more consistent than traditional oils, giving it better stability in different temperatures.
  • In addition to a smoother feel, you will also be adding to the life of your instrument thanks to a powerful corrosion inhibitor contained in the oil.
  • Designed for trumpets, mellophones, flugelhorns, baritones, euphoniums, tubas, or any other piston-valve brass instrument.

Product features

Designed for musicians

Yamaha technicians are musicians themselves, so when they designed these oils they knew exactly what players want and need. These oils were created to make sure your instrument performs at its absolute best.

Choose your weight

The advanced process used to create these oils allows precise control over how thick or thin the oil is. Because of this, you can choose from four different weights of oil to match your horn's specific needs.

Corrosion inhibitor

Yamaha synthetic oils have a specially designed anti-corrosion agent added to the formula. This additive counters the natural corrosive effects that saliva and moisture have on the inside of an instrument, giving increased protection to your valves.

Childproof cap

These oils come in a child resistant container to help prevent accidental ingestion or spills. To open, simply push the cap down while turning counter-clockwise.

Standard Valve Oils

Regular valve oils are traditionally made from a blend of standard mineral oils such as kerosene or paraffin oil. The thickness, or viscosity, of these oils is controlled by altering the mix of mineral oils blended together until it “feels right.” If you could look all the way down to the molecular level in a blend like this you’d see individual oil molecules of all different sizes, ranging from very small to very large.

The problem with a traditional oil like this is that the smaller oil molecules tend to evaporate much more quickly than the larger ones. This means that an oil that starts out “right” will gradually get thicker as the thinner parts of the oil evaporate away. The end result for the player is that valves start out feeling great, but begin to get gummy over time because the oil that’s still left on the valves is made up entirely of the remaining larger, heavier molecules.

Yamaha Synthetic Valve Oils

Yamaha synthetic oils are created from a chemical process that produces very even and consistent molecules that are similar in size. Since the molecules all evaporate at the same rate, the oil will continue to provide the same lubrication and smooth feel over time without getting gummy or slow. This also allows the oils to remain much more stable and consistent in extreme conditions, so if you often find yourself playing outdoors or in very hot weather, a synthetic oil will keep your valves working smoothly and much more reliably.

In addition, having control over the size of the molecules means that the thickness of the oil can be precisely adjusted to create different options for different uses. This allows Yamaha to offer four different viscosities of valve oil and an assortment of other slide, rotor and key oils that are all fine-tuned for the specific part of the instrument where they are used.

Question: is it better than the bobby shew lead
Answer: yea in some ways and other no but remember everybodys different From my experience bobby shew jazz MP has a very bright tone and increases range all around the Lead MP intends it upward but has its limit if you try to hit high notes with to much pressure and air it would shut off on you so all around I recommend the jazz MP but like I said everyones different you got to try it for your self

User questions & answers

Question: Could this work with a flugelhorn
Answer: They're huge... I don't have an exact measurement right now but I put them on a 2000 F150 and I only had 3 options: (BARELY) fit it on the outside of the frame, put it in the bed, or put it on the roof. If you have an SUV, don't expect to put it underneath the vehicle. I was barely able to make it fit under my pickup truck. I had a centimeter or two that allowed me to fit it where I have it. It's gigantic and the amount of noise reflects its size.
Question: Is it possible to record while playing
Answer: I have a better air solenoid.I'll look up the part number.support ring no
Question: Does it still have the concert hall and church reverb features as the old one
Answer: Yes, I used a 3/8' NPT threaded air solenoid valve from truck parts dealer, using a 3/8" female reducing adapter to match the threads on the horn air inlet. Even with the slight restriction in size down from 3/8" line and fittings to the smaller threaded hole size on the horn set it works GREAT. Of course, I'm using Vi-Air compressor set to shut off at up to 200 psi. They will make bystanders swear there is a train about to run over them.
Question: What's the difference between the st9, sb79c, sb7xc, and sb7x
Answer: It's rated 140db. At 120psi it vibrates the ground under my truck! They are awesome.

Question: Is it good for high notes
Answer: It is very shallow, not as shallow as the EM1S. Yes it good for high notes. It was too shallow for me and I have it for sale if your interested.
Question: Is it easy or hard to play high notes
Answer: This mouthpiece ....or any mouthpiece.....doesn't make the ability to hit high notes "easy or hard". The only thing to make the high register easy is concentrated and consistent practice. That being said, this mouthpiece has VERY nice response and sounds very nice in the higher register. It has a very full-bodied tone in all registers and at all volumes. Highly recommended!
Question: Is it a v-cup mp or a c-cup
Answer: I believe it is a v cup been using it for about a year now it's very good

User questions & answers

Question: Is the equivalent to a Schilke 14a4a? Thanks
Answer: Yamaha and Schilke use the same numbering system. The Rim and cup will be very similar to the Schilke. This is the GP version which aside from having a Gold Plated rim & Cup, has slightly more mass than the standard series Yamaha or Schilke.
Question: What is the Bach equivalent
Answer: Hello!That is a Giardinelli 6S.
Question: I heard this can help with high notes is this true
Answer: This mouthpiece does make the upper register easier to play. That said, playing in the upper register is more about technique than mouthpiece choice. I find that this piece provides nice support in the upper register while maintaining better tuning and tone in the low register as compared to the Schilke 14A4a.
Question: Will this grease work for flutes as well
Answer: Not sure
Question: Does it contain a lot of grease, and about how many slides can you grease before you run out
Answer: It's your standard chap stick size. Mileage will vary. Personally, with only applying grease when I clean my horn (about once every thirty sessions), I got quite a few cleanings in. I would say it covers the same amount of slides that the twist off cap ones do.
Question: does it work for tuba
Answer: Works great for tuba. Nice, clean application.
Question: Does it work for French horn
Answer: I would think so, yes. It's pretty standard tuning slide grease.
Question: What zise is it
Answer: It's trumpet-zised ;)
