| Answer: | A different bridge would need to be mounted to accept the tremlo bar. The back of the Strat body would need to be carved out to accept the claw for 3 to 5 springs to fasten to the under side of the bridge. In the right hands of a luthier, it could set it up for whammy bar duty, but I'd doubt anyone would want to pay the cost of what that work entails. I'd let the beginner work on the basics of learning how to play, then get the real deal in a few years before hitting the road! |

| Answer: | I also have a 7-year-old son with ADHD who wanted an electric guitar. This looks like a full scale guitar, which would be too big for an average-sized 7-year-old. My son made pretty quick progress on my full scale electric, right up until he had to reach three frets for power chords, at which point he got frustrated and gave up. You might consider a 1/2 or 3/4 scale electric, or perhaps a baritone ukulele (an instrument my son rejected because it wasn't rock-ish enough). We never followed through with a smaller guitar, as it was clear that it wasn't so much the finger stretch that was stopping him, but that to him the reward of being able to make the musical sounds was not worth the effort of overcoming the obstacle, unlike, say, having a completed Lego car is worth the effort of assembling it. We might try again when he's a bit older and, you know, less screaming and running around the house. |
