13 best parlor guitars
Parlor guitars are a type of acoustic guitar known for their smaller size and unique historical significance. They have been a part of the guitar family for many years and are beloved for their distinct sound and portability. Here are some key points about parlor guitars:
Size and Shape: Parlor guitars typically have a smaller body compared to dreadnought or jumbo acoustic guitars. They are characterized by their compact, hourglass-like shape, making them comfortable to play while seated.
Historical Significance: Parlor guitars were popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when they were commonly used in homes for entertainment. They earned their name because they were often played in the parlors of people's houses.
Tone and Sound: Parlor guitars are known for their warm, balanced tone. Due to their smaller size, they may not produce as much volume as larger guitars, but they often excel in delivering a rich, mellow sound that is well-suited for fingerpicking and bluesy styles.
Materials: Like other acoustic guitars, parlor guitars can be made with various tonewoods, including spruce, mahogany, rosewood, and more. The choice of wood can significantly affect the guitar's sound.
Playability: Many players find parlor guitars comfortable to play, especially those with smaller hands. The shorter scale length and smaller body make them easier to handle for some individuals.
Vintage and Modern Models: While parlor guitars had their heyday in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they've experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years. Many guitar manufacturers produce modern parlor guitar models that capture the vintage charm while incorporating modern construction techniques and materials.
Versatility: Parlor guitars are versatile instruments that can handle various musical styles, from folk and blues to country and singer-songwriter genres.
Collectibility: Vintage parlor guitars can be highly collectible and sought after by enthusiasts and collectors. They often feature intricate inlays, unique designs, and craftsmanship reflective of their era.
In summary, parlor guitars are cherished for their historical significance, distinctive sound, and comfortable playability. Whether you're a seasoned guitarist or a beginner looking for a unique acoustic guitar experience, a parlor guitar can be a fantastic choice.

The Cordoba C9 Parlor* is ideal for the player looking for the feel, comfort, and ease of playability that a smaller instrument provides, while retaining the sweet, warm tone created by all-solid wood construction. Built with a solid Canadian cedar top with solid mahogany back and sides, the C9 Parlor features a 7/8 body size, 50mm nut width, and the fan bracing pattern found on most Cordoba guitars. This bracing pattern gives the center of the soundboard more surface area to vibrate and respond to the tension of the strings. A more responsive soundboard makes the guitar louder, and provides better tone.
Like every guitar in the Luthier series, the C9 Parlor is built with Spanish heel construction, where the top of the guitar is attached to the neck, the sides are added next, and the guitar’s body is sealed by the installation of the back. This construction technique allows the entire instrument to vibrate as one unified piece.
Aesthetic touches like the mother-of-pearl weave rosette inspired by a 1920’s Domingo Esteso guitar add a touch of vintage elegance to this best-seller. Other premium features include a rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge, high gloss finish, and Savarez Cristal Corum strings. The C9 Parlor includes Cordoba’s lightweight polyfoam case.
*With the introduction of the C10 Parlor, Cordoba decided to rename the model previously titled “C9 Dolce” to “C9 Parlor.” We felt the word “Parlor” was a better, more universal descriptor of a small body instrument. No features of the guitar were changed aside from the name.
- Solid Canadian cedar top with solid mahogany back and sides
- Lightweight, 7/8 size classical guitar
- Hand inlaid Mother-of-Pearl "Esteso" Rosette
- Rosewood fingerboard and Indian rosewood bridge
- Includes Cordoba Polyfoam case

Question: | Does anyone find buzzing sound on the 4,5 and 6 strings? (I have this issue with mine |
Answer: | You need more relief in the neck. Tighten the truss rod screw about 1/4 turn at a time until the buzzing stops. This will introduce relief (relief causes a slight bowing of the neck which will fix the buzzing problem). After the relief is adjusted you may need to adjust saddle height to get your preferred sting height at the 12th fret. |

A Modern Parlor Guitar
The Yamaha CSF1M combines the portability of a travel guitar with the focused tonal characteristics of a parlor guitar—making it ideal for both the road and the destination. Special forward-shifted scalloped bracing enhances bass response while increasing the overall resonance of the solid Sitka spruce top, resulting a surprisingly big acoustic and amplified sound.
- CSF is available as a solid-top CSF1M and CSF-TA (TransAcoustic), or all-solid CSF3M.
- All models feature solid Sitka spruce mopboards, and mahogany back & sides.
- Guitars come with a durable deluxe gig bag for easy transport.
For the Road and the Destination
CSF series guitars can be inspiring alternatives to full-size dreadnought guitars when recording, providing a full, rich, and resonant sound that can stand alone even on recordings where the acoustic guitar is prominently featured.
CSF guitars feature passive undersaddle pickups that utilize the same sensor found in Yamaha L-Series acoustic-electrics—enabling players to easily plug into an amplifier or PA system when performing live.
With their compact size and included deluxe gig bags, CSF series guitars make ideal travel companions.
Compact body, full-size sound
Despite their compact size, which some guitarists find more comfortable to play than larger instruments, CSF series guitars feature an all-new design that increases bass response and overall loudness, resulting in a surprisingly full, rich, and vibrant sound.
CSF series guitars utilize newly-designed scalloped bracing that delivers rich, full-bodied resonance comparable to that of a full-size guitar. Additionally, the use of a forward-shifted construction maintains the strength of the body while maximizing the resonance of the guitar top.
