Savory Salmon Cakes Recipe

1 can (6oz) Wild Planet Wild Salmon - 1/4 cup bread crumbs - 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper - 1 egg - 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley salt and pepper, to taste - 2 Tbsp olive oil

In a bowl, combine salmon and juices from the can. Break up salmon and mix to combine with juices. Add bread crumbs, bell pepper, egg, parsley. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Form into six or seven mini cakes. Heat olive oil in a nonstick skillet and saute salmon cakes until lightly browned, about 2 or 3 minutes each side.

Answer:	Hi Paul. Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, we cannot tell exact code on every single can of meats packed in the Yoder's Variety. However, I can provide you with the most recent production codes on all Yoder's items if that helps: Beef 11/18/15; Chicken 11/22/15; Pork 11/05/15; Turkey 10/24/15; Hamburger 11/10/15; Pork Sausage 10/27/15; Bacon 10/14/15.
Question:	Am I correct in the fact that these are packed in a liquid
Answer:	The natural juices are the broth created when meat is cooked....'in the can'. I've gone thru a case of Yoders and have nooo complaints whatsoever. If your a prepper, then you 'can not go wrong'.The meat in these cans will last years and years, which is why you will not see an expire date on the can, only marks are the contents and born on code. Also check out werlingandsons.com I buy the 14.5 ounce cans by the case. Meat is a tad better, Yoders and Werling I believe are the top dogs. I wouldn't replace fresh cut, butcher cuts with these, but for long term food storage, you bet. Keep in mind, the 28 ounce cans are for at least 2-4 people...or two real hungry people. Don't discard the liquid, it's really the purest broth. Good stuff. Preppers blessing.
Question:	why does this canned meat have a shelf life of 10 years, but canned meat in the stores only have a couple of years
Answer:	Hi Cwcsmc. Thank you the interest in the Yoder's canned meats! That is actually a great question. We do not add any chemicals in the Yoder's meats - it is the cooking process that impacts the shelf life. With the exception of the Beef Chunks, which has Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) added to preserve color, all of the meats are all natural with no additives or preservatives of any kind. If you look at the ingredients list for the Chicken, you will see "Chicken, Water, Salt". Turkey is "Turkey, Water and Salt". Hamburger is simply "Beef". The reason we get such a long shelf life out of them is because we load raw meats into the can by hand, vacuum seal the can and then cook the sealed meats in a retort vessel. The end result is that not only do you get great tasting meats because they are cooked in their own juices, but you get an atmosphere in the can and a finished product that is microbiologically inert and therefore contains absolutely no bacteria or organic organisms. That way as long as you don't open the can to introduce oxygen, the meat can't spoil, mold or go bad. If the can hasn't rusted through in 100 years, the meat will still be safe to eat and will taste virtually identical to a can that was only a few weeks old (although beyond 20 years it will start to lose some nutritional value). Commercial food canning uses a totally different method. They actually cook the product first, then load the can, and vacuum seal it. Since the can is "hot loaded", it will be microbiologically inert initially, because the temperature is high enough to kill any bacteria. But because there is residual oxygen still in the can, it can actually spoil is 2 to 5 years. The advantage of the commercial canning process is that they can cook huge vats of the meats, soup, stew, etc. and then machine load thousands of cans per minute, so they get the pricing advantage due to the economies of scale. But you will never be able to count on a long shelf life. Loading raw meats into the can by hand and then having to cook it, cool it, steam the cans clean and then label them before they can be boxed up by hand is not the cheapest way to do it, but it is the only way you can be assured of an extremely long shelf life. Answer:	The picture of the tub clearly shows "Produced in Buffalo, New York, USA", with stars and stripes. Unfortunately, law allows items that have a majority percent of the product made in USA, to still be labeled "Made in USA" (51% USA, 49% China, for example). Don't quote me on those percentages though, I'm not a lawyer, it's just an example. Where a product is made is not MY number one concern, I put trust in the company and value of the product above country of origin. In the past, I've bought US made products online from no-name companies that turned out to be complete crap. On the other hand, 100% of Apple's products are made 100% in China, yet Apple remains one of America's top brands. I wonder how many people answering/commenting on this question own an "I something or other"? I don't- and never will, unless Apple lowers their prices to align with other top brands that sell 100% China made products like Samsung, Dell, Kindle, etc.

Answer:	There's no "use by" date on the cartons. However, I order these about every 6-8 months. Because they're dried potatoes, I would imagine they have a lengthy shelf life. Each carton makes 3-4 servings and my family really likes them. They're quick & easy to fix. After putting the hot water in the carton I do allow them to sit for about 20-minutes to completely absorb all of the water.
Question:	What is the shelf life
Answer:	That is a good question! And to tell the truth I use both depending how soon I need them. Point 1: If I plan to use them in some the next day I use hot tap water. I let these set for about 12 to 24 hours. This aloes the hash brown to full re hydrate. I like to add dryed onions to both ways as well as my seasonings.Point 2: If I decide to use them the same day I use boiling water and I let them set for about a hour. This gives the potatoes a good taste.

Answer:	If you are referring to the date you see on the image, you can disregard that. Product images on the ad do not reflect the current expiration date. This is the freshness date of the product when the image was taken & is not updated to reflect the current expiration.

Answer:	A good portion of it is made from fat. If you chill it slightly it becomes much firmer.

Question:	is this kosher certified
Answer:	I just read the entire label sadly I see nothing saying it's kosher certified. I do know the beef chunks that come in the can is Very Good Quality beef. Sorry I couldn't help you with the kosher certified question, you might find Keystone Canning Co. Question:	What is the shelf life
Answer:	The "best used by" on the can was 5 years. But I assume that, like all canned foods, as long as the seal is not broken, it will last indefinitely. Though there may be some degradation of the quality of the food. But not the safety.
Question:	Does anyone knows the net weight when product is drained? Thank you
Answer:	The can says 28 oz and that there are 14 two ounce servings. Sounds to me like there are 28 ounces of chicken but I can’t guarantee that. Thank you
Question:	Why are the cans always dented when I receive them
Answer:	There are two reasons the cans arrive dented. First, Amazon has the worst, most unprofessionally managed shipping department in the online shopping space. This is not to complain about the workers who do the packing, though they probably could do better on their own, but it is about their leadership and management. If you set an expectation for your employees that materials are packaged for damage-free delivery, the employees would live up to those expectations. The problem is that there are no such expectations set. I wonder, in fact, if the expectations are wholly about speed - get it in the box and out the door - and that is why they put 4 cans of chicken in a huge box with something like a cast iron pan floating loosely as well. It cracks me up when they do something like that and then throw in a couple of the air-bubble things loosely as well. The second reason that your cans always arrive damaged is that Keystone Meats cares no more about your satisfaction or the quality of your delivery than does Amazon. I have contacted them many times asking them to offer their products on Amazon in full 12-can cases. This would ensure that the cans are shipped in a box that is designed to hold them. If you order a case directly from Keystone, they come in a box that holds them securely. Keystone has repeatedly responded that they're not interested in selling by the case on Amazon; that if I want their products by the case I can order directly from them - and pay outrageous shipping costs to boot. Unfortunately for their customers - but great for Keystone, Keystone is selling everything they can make in the current pandemic and global food scare. It is certainly not a time they'll be interested in responding to customer needs - especially considering that they didn't care about you getting dented cans even before the pandemic. My suggestion is reading up on how to can meats safely at home and canning your own. We've recently canned beef and pork and will be doing chicken next week. It turns out to be half the price of Keystone and at least equally as delicious. Their indifference to the market place and to their customers has led to new opportunities to fill the gap on our own. I came to this page tonight because, after a few years of hiatus on ordering Keystone, I tried it again for the past few months, hoping Amazon might have responded to the years of customer complaints. After a few months of dented cans in my subscribe-and-save, I came here tonight to cancel once again. We'll be canning our first chicken next week and, soon after, canning our first ground beef. Assuming we're as successful as we were with beef and with pork, it will be a fantastic alternative to Keystone. So, there's the truth about why your cans always arrive dented.

Answer:	I don't have a can now to read off the ingredients, but I know there is some potato starch listed. Fried Spam is yummy.

Answer:	I once had one can of SPAM spoil within it's besy by date. But that was many years ago. ANYTHING can fail. Pop top cans are less stable than the older style requiring an opener.
