14 best guitar onboard tuners
Onboard tuners are a convenient feature found on many acoustic guitars, designed to help guitarists quickly and accurately tune their instruments without the need for external tuners. Here's what you should know about guitar onboard tuners:
Built-In Tuning Convenience: Onboard tuners are integrated directly into the acoustic guitar's preamp or control system. This means you don't need to carry a separate tuner with you, making them especially useful for live performances and practice sessions.
Display: Most onboard tuners have a small LED or LCD display on the guitar's control panel. This display typically shows a needle or a series of LEDs that indicate whether the string is in tune.
How They Work: To use an onboard tuner, you usually activate it by pressing a button or holding down a specific combination of buttons on your guitar's preamp. Once activated, you can pluck each string individually, and the tuner will display whether the note is sharp, flat, or in tune. You then adjust the tuning pegs accordingly until the indicator shows that the string is in tune.
Accuracy: Onboard tuners are generally quite accurate, and they work well for standard tuning as well as alternate tunings. However, the accuracy may vary slightly depending on the quality of the tuner and the guitar's electronics.
Battery-Powered: Most onboard tuners are powered by a small battery, which is typically easy to replace when needed. Some higher-end models may have rechargeable batteries.
Compatibility: Onboard tuners are most commonly found on acoustic-electric guitars, as they are integrated into the guitar's electronic system. They are less common on purely acoustic guitars, which typically rely on external tuners.
User-Friendly: Onboard tuners are generally user-friendly and suitable for guitarists of all skill levels. They provide a visual reference that helps beginners learn how to tune their guitars accurately.
Advantages: The primary advantage of onboard tuners is convenience. They are always ready for use, and you don't need to fumble with external tuners or smartphone apps. This can be especially valuable in live performance situations where quick and accurate tuning adjustments are crucial.
Drawbacks: While onboard tuners are convenient, some players may prefer the precision of dedicated, high-quality electronic tuners. Additionally, if the onboard tuner's battery is depleted or the electronics malfunction, it may render the tuner unusable until repaired.
In summary, onboard tuners are a practical feature found on many acoustic-electric guitars, offering the convenience of quick and accurate tuning without the need for external devices. They are a valuable tool for guitarists who frequently perform live or simply prefer the convenience of having a tuner built into their instrument.

The TC Electronic RH450 Bass Amp Head is the company's first full bass rig. With 450W of Class-D power, the RH450 bass amp has the power to run multiple bass speaker cabinets and is especially effective when combined with the RS210 and RS212, The TC Electronic RH450 amp can run any combination of up to 3 units. This bass amp head's features include an input that accepts passive or active instruments, 4 semi-parametric tone controls with light rings around each knob that make your settings visible even on dark stages, and with tone centers that can be adjusted. Other features include an integrated tuner that is precise and extremely easy to use. 3 user-memory locations let you store your favorite setups. A TubeTone circuit affects both the preamp and the output for realistic tube-amp character. SpectraComp technology provides multi-band compression that is even across all strings. I/O is comprehensive and includes an AES/EBU connection. Presets, Mute, and Tuner can be selected remotely with the RC4 floor controller sold separately. Flexible tone control The RH450 bass amp head has straightforward controls like you know them from traditional amps, voiced to give you plenty of tweaking options to nail the perfect tone. Chances are these are all you're going to need. However, if you're not fully satisfied with the default frequency areas, fear not-RH450 gives you the option to change the focus of each of the tone controls. The nerdy term for this feature is semi-parametric bands, and it tweaks the "hidden parameters" to pinpoint a frequency you either want to remove or boost for each tone control and then store the settings. TubeTone Most transistor designs have tried to replicate tube sound using 1 small preamp tube, but they generally fail as they don't take into account the crucial characteristics of th...

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the TC Electronic RH450 450W Bass Amp Head come with a factory or other warranty |
Answer: | All you have to do is Google TC 'Electronics factory warranty':Customers from the Americas / Asia / Middle East / Africa / Oceania:TC Electronic* and distributed products are warranted to be free from defects in components and factory workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 1 year. |
Question: | Does the RH 450 HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO RUN A RS210 AND A RS |
Answer: | The short answer is yes. The explanation is: All speakers in the RS range are nominally 8 ohms. The RH450 documentation states that minimum loading is 4 ohms. By this statement, a single RS212 in parallel with a RS210 is a safe load. TC Electronics further states that any combination of 3 RS series speakers can be safely connected to the RH450 without fear of overload. TC Electronics warns against paralleling more that 2 of any other brand of 8 ohm speaker. See TC Electronics web page for bass amp products for graphical recommendations. You can also download the RH450 manual from their support links. |
Question: | How does this amp sound with an upright bass |
Answer: | My only experience is with my Englehardt bass and Fishman BP100B pickup. I have a pair of RS112 speakers to go along with the RH450. The 1MegOhm impedance seems to match well with piezo pickup elements. The sound is forward and punchy with good midbass. The BP100B gives lots of string and bridge tone--not much wood, but the tone is full. I'll bet this combination would sound great with more hi-tech p/u's. I recommend this amp for all style basses. |
Question: | Is the tc electronic rh450 bass amplifier head powerful enough to run an ampeg 8x10 fridge cab |
Answer: | The 8 x 10 fridge as its refered to here is rated at 100dB @ 1W. The impedance is 4 Ohms. This cabinet will just about blow the bottles off the shelf in a bar at 1 Watt. Imagine the havoc at the RH450's rated power. The RH450 is rated to handle 4 Ohms. Sorry for the late reply. |

RH450 Bass Amp
There was one reason to make RH450: making bass better. There's a dedicated bass team at TC, guys that gig, record, rehearse, live and breathe bass. So when they got a chance to finally do an amp, they built 'the best amp possible' from the ground up.
The result is a compact, powerful amp with a set of features so advanced we like to think of them as Bass Amp 2.0.
Tune Up
Why no one has ever done this before is simply beyond us. Adding an onboard chromatic tuner makes life so much easier for everyone! The tuner is always on, and you can check your tuning state at any point. And when you need to tune up between songs, the built-in tuner will get you back and playing in seconds. You can store up to 3 different presets so you can handle whatever music might throw at you. Also, the optional RC4 footswitch allows you to instantly control your presets.
RC4 Remote

User questions & answers
Question: | What are the dimensions of the hole you have to have to insert the preamp? considering this as a replacement for a broken oem unit |
Answer: | Passive pick-ups by nature need extra boost. The Baggs Session DI is both a direct box as well as a pre-amp. This will help boost your volume to an amp or sound board. I'm not sure how much control the compression or sound shaping will do for you since it was designed for acoustic guitar frequencies, but I certainly don't see it hurting your sound. Play around with it and dial in as much as you feel you need. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I bought this pedal, but it doesnt give an accurate tuning. Ive tested it, and it works when being bypassed, just not in tuner mode. What gives |
Answer: | The pedal you have sounds defective, I'd return it. Mine works fine like any tuner pedal. This pedal isn't super precise and accurate, there's a couple of cents of tuning leeway that it doesn't pick up. I'd recommend this pedal if you want something small, cheap, and you ALSO tune by ear. It's really what you pay for. |
Question: | Does it work with a capo |
Answer: | it doesn't work at all... |
Question: | Can you use it for drop tuning or lower tuning on bass |
Answer: | It will tune each individual string to sharps or flats depending on what key your tuning to... |
Question: | Will it tell you what chords you are playing with a capo on |
Answer: | No |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the thread on the endpin jack, standard or metric |
Answer: | I hope this helps you. Whether or not the thread on the end pin jack is standard or metric doesn't really matter since the nuts and washers provided with the pickup fit it. If you are asking because you for whatever reason don't have the original nuts and washers, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. |
Question: | Can you use just the mic without the piezo |
Answer: | I bought this pickup, tried it, decided to keep looking at other pickup systems. Dunno. You could put tie wrap around the piezo and see how it does with just the mike. The piezo is not going to pick up much if not installed under the saddle.p, thus achieving mike only sound. Getting an acoustic sound live is the holy grail. I have heard a couple of live players with phenominal acoustic live sounds using onboard miking/pickup system. up in Nashville was one guy, at a house concert, who said it was an lrbaggs anthem.) I bought one the anthem. Couldn’t get a usable sound. Bought the anthem, tried it on my taylor and martins. No go. I finally installed a fishman ellipse matrix (analog, no sound modeling) in one martin, that records direct really well, mike is nice, blends w/piezo as desired or not and gets all the acoustic nuances without having to set up miking. (Not maybe the high end studio setup, but it is ok for demos and convenience is cool) however sound sucks live. In my other martin i have a stock fishman piezo and I cobbled together a Lavalier Microphone, MAONO AU-100 Hands Free Clip-on Lapel Mic and soldered it in the fishman. (Not recommended unless one want to get really experimental and accepts the upsides and downsides of this approach, potentially destroying the picking and damaging your guitar). This one sounds good for me live, records ok but not as true to the acoustic sound I seek for recording because piezo is blended in, which is probably part of the reason it sounds good enough live. Anyway, this is probably way more information than you might care about. I am not recommending you do any of this! I just try stuff and see how it works out so I can learn and sharing the thought process. Good luck. The pickup you are looking at, others have tried and have various degrees of results. Your milage may vary. I found I needed some eq and some light limiter/compressor on acoustic guitar live as well as recorded. I use an alesis 3650 limiter/compressorand i also use a bb sonic and stomp sonic maximizer in the chain. Pickup is only $40. Go for it! It is a lot cheaper than the anthem and eclipse matrix, the both of which i bought also. |
Question: | Which real differences are betwen this and the lr baggs anthem? do you have any real video to be certain about the quality |
Answer: | Never came to me |
Question: | Is the item durable |
Answer: | The one I bought I installed for a customer. It was EXTREMELY surprising. I plan to buy a couple of more. They are very effective. Realistic. Worth every cent and then some. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I instal in a 12 string guitat |
Answer: | Yes, I installed it in a Rainsong 12 string. |
Question: | just bought Alvarez Artist series w/stage pro Baggs pre-amp...cant seem to get tuner to work properly when turn on...sm I missing something |
Answer: | Did you replace the wire? It’s a thin silver-ish wire that lays underneath your bridge. I just replicated what was currently there when I swapped it for the new one. It runs through the body of the guitar and plugs into the preamp assembly next to the jack wire. Simple as that and worked fine for me. |
Question: | Is it a pre amp only or it has the pick up system as well |
Answer: | It cannot be a pre-amp without a pickup. It comes with a pickup, but it is a different type of pickup. Most under-saddle pickups consist of a magnetic bar connected to a metallic braid/cable, which connects to the electronics. In this case, there is no magnetic bar. The last 4" of the metal braid/cable actually take the place of the magnetic bar. It works great. So if you do not have a pickup in place already (magnetic bar), you will have to drill a hole for the metal braid to go from the inside of the guitar out to the front and under the saddle. This is all included in the instructions which I think are excellent. I hope this helps! |
Question: | Mine will not turn off. drains battery fast. plugged in or not. works ok otherwise. anyone else have this kind of issue |
Answer: | It's most likely the output jack. When the plug is removed, it is suppose to break contact so the battery does not drain when not in use. Replacing output jack should address the issue. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for a 12-string acoustic guitar |
Answer: | I installed it on a 6 string guitar. The pickup goes under the bridge. It is long enough to be used on a 12 string. The equalizer works great. |
Question: | Does it have power on off |
Answer: | Right. It does not have an external on/off switch. Instead it shuts off automatically when a plug is not pushed into the output jack. So unplug and its off. |
Question: | Is this fishman? other presys preamps read fishman on them |
Answer: | No, it's the same size but it's not Fishman, it's TaoQi Brand which was registered in US. Good Quality. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it offer a just intonation setting under the additional temperament presets |
Answer: | Yes, the tuner will remember all settings (including 432Hz) each time it is turned on/off. Settings will reset to their factory state when the battery is replaced. |
Question: | Could this tune down to 432 instead of |
Answer: | Hey Jim, congrats on picking up the cello! The UberTuner does indeed attach to the bridge, and the bright/large screen is very easy to see from playing distance. It handles the fundamental and harmonics without a hitch. I am one of the founders of KLIQ so hopefully some other cello players can chime in with their personal feedback. Cheers! |
Question: | there are 8 different temperaments listed on this tuner - but not equal temperament - which temperament is used for tuning the piano |
Answer: | I just did this myself. Hold the mode (middle) button in for 2 seconds, and the 440 will flash. Then press the A4 (lower) button several times to scroll through the Hz, from 430-450. I love this tuner! My instrument sounds better than ever, over several octaves! |
Question: | Has anyone had any success with using this device to tune a piano |
Answer: | The MetroPitch has a built-in mic which will detect the notes you sing, and show you whether you're flat, sharp, or in tune. Like all other tuners of this kind, it works a lot better with longer sustained notes versus staccato singing. I hope that helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My volume control was bad after about an hour. I'm wondering if I bought another one do you think it might work |
Answer: | The tuner is chromatic so even if you can’t adjust it you could always figure out how far off one led is (so if 1 light off is by say -4 you could detune 1 light flat to get 436 and so on with each led flat or sharp) by using another tuner that is capable of adjustment or has an anolog readout. |
Question: | Was this not supposed to come with an installation guide |
Answer: | you can use it for a semi hollow body, might have to dial the gain back a bit but you should be fine |
Question: | can I plug both pickups from my takamine split bridge |
Answer: | It does not. You will need a 9v dc adapter |
Question: | Does it come with a pickup |
Answer: | I do not know what they do. I normally leave them at "twelve o'clock", but I'm to play a gig right now, so I'll play with them a bit and get back to you. *** Ok, back from the gig. I tried a number of different setting combinations for the notch filter and the gain knobs, with little detectable difference that I could hear. I set all three knobs back to the "twelve o'clock" position. I am happy with my L.R. Baggs Venue DI. It produces a quality amplified acoustic sound that is considerably better than simply plugging directly into a portable amp such as my Line 6. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What case should i get for this guitar |
Answer: | How about this one? http://www.amazon.com/Takamine-GC1124G-G-Series-Jumbo-Guitar/dp/B0028RGAH0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8I I got mine about a year ago and have no complaints. My GJ72CE-12 fits perfectly in it. A couple other generic jumbo cases I tried weren't big enough. I don't take it out of the house very often, but it looks sturdy enough for hauling around. And it's a really nice-looking case. |
Question: | Does this guitar have truss rod |
Answer: | IT ACTUALLY COMES WITH A WRENCH FOR THE TRUSS I saw this question. And laughed. Almost all guitars have one. Only very very old guitars and well toys don't have truss rods |
Question: | What is the difference between and the one with out NAT |
Answer: | NAT refers to the color of the wood. In this case the wood is finished in its natural color as opposed to stained another color. |
Question: | I've had this guitar for about a year and love it. But what case model will fit this guitar |
Answer: | Maybe a Gator Case GW-JUMBO: INTERIOR DIMENSIONSBody Length: 23.50 "Body Height: 5.50 "Lower Bout Width: 17.25 "Middle Bout Width: 11.25 "Upper Bout Width: 13.00 "Overall Length: 44.50 " |
