A sampling drum machine is a musical instrument and electronic device used in electronic music production and performance. It combines the functions of a drum machine and a sampler, allowing musicians and producers to create rhythmic patterns by triggering pre-recorded sounds or samples. Here are some key points related to sampling drum machines:
Functionality: Sampling drum machines allow users to record and store various sounds, such as drum hits, vocal snippets, or musical instruments. These samples can then be triggered and played back at different pitches and durations, enabling the creation of complex and layered rhythms.
Sequencing: Sampling drum machines often feature built-in sequencers that allow users to program intricate drum patterns and beats. Sequencers provide a visual interface where users can arrange samples in a sequence, defining the timing, velocity, and duration of each hit.
Sound Variety: One of the advantages of sampling drum machines is the ability to use a wide range of sounds from different sources. Users can sample traditional acoustic drums, electronic percussion, as well as non-musical sounds, creating unique and experimental beats.
Real-time Performance: Sampling drum machines are popular among live performers and DJs because they offer real-time control over the playback of samples. Musicians can manipulate the samples on the fly, adjusting parameters like pitch, filter, and effects during a performance.
Integration with DAWs: Many sampling drum machines can be integrated with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) via MIDI and USB connections. This integration allows seamless communication between the drum machine and software, enabling users to incorporate sampled beats into larger music productions.
Sound Editing and Effects: Sampling drum machines often come with built-in sound editing tools and effects processors. Users can edit the samples, apply filters, modulation effects, and other processing to shape the sound according to their creative vision.
Popular Models: There are several popular sampling drum machines on the market, including products from renowned manufacturers like Akai, Roland, Elektron, and Native Instruments. These machines vary in features, sound quality, and price, catering to different user needs and preferences.
Sampling drum machines have played a significant role in the evolution of electronic music, enabling artists to explore new sonic possibilities and push the boundaries of traditional rhythm and percussion.

User questions & answers
Question: | does it come with utility disc |
Answer: | No. To turn a standard analog-output electric guitar into a Music Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) synth controller, you need an analog-to-MIDI converter. Fishman makes a wireless MIDI converter (about $230) and Roland makes a wired MIDI converter system with pickup (about $350). There may be other systems out there, too. |
Question: | Can I trigger the samples using a different midi controller |
Answer: | as long as the keyboard has a 5 pin MIDI in, then this will fit. |
Question: | I am looking for something to play short sound bites and entire songs for breaks in sporting events. Will this store and play back entire songs |
Answer: | Thanks for the great question. On Mac it is possible to use the Audio MIDI Setup tool (Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities) to connect the DU-ONE as a MIDI device connected over Bluetooth. Once connected as a MIDI device, most music software can receive data from the instrument for transcription. For Windows, it is likely possible as well, however we do not have a confirmation from Maker Hart yet regarding how it can be done. Please let us know if you have further questions or comments at [email protected]. Warmest regards, TrueToSource Customer Care |
Question: | looking for a sampler to play loops live. like choir piano or strings from a keyboard or komplete...will this do it |
Answer: | Dear Robert Bailey , Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, it is available in a left-handed version. You can edit the DU-ONE of program to left-handed version. If there is any question or comments, please feel free to contact at [email protected] Thank you. Have a great day. Best Regards, Sandy Tsai |

The Ultimate Percussive Sampling Instrument
The SPD-SX Sampling Pad puts powerful sample creation and playback under your sticks with innovative audio-capturing features, expressive playability, three multi-effects engines, and much more. The perfect addition to any acoustic or electronic drum kit, percussion setup, DJ booth, or keyboard rig, the SPD-SX is equally at home on the live stage, in the recording studio, pre-production suite, or dance club. The SPD-SX takes many of the proven concepts from its predecessor and raises them to a new level. Enjoy the most advanced triggering and sampling technology in a sleek, easy-to-use percussion instrument.
The Playing Field
The SPD-SX is equipped with nine highly sensitive rubber pads with two independent real-time control knobs and four dedicated effect buttons. Roland’s most advanced triggering technology ensures the ultimate in accuracy and fully dynamic performance, while a large backlit LCD provides easy-to-read data in all varieties of environments. Each pad has a companion LED that illuminates to show the pad’s status. When you trigger sample phrases, the LEDs remain lit to show you which pads are in play and which are not. In addition, the LEDs change illumination strength according to audio-level activity (similar to level meters on a mixing board). The high-contrast red divider lines help you see the pad zones clearly onstage.
Improved Playability and Functionality
Today, increasing numbers of drummers and percussionists need to incorporate audio samples into their performance. The SPD-SX will satisfy their increasing requirements with essential features such as individual click output routing, dedicated volume controls, Pad Check function, individual Sub Out, and more.
Onboard Effects
The SPD-SX has three multi-effects units onboard: one master unit and two units that are assignable per kit. The master effects engine lets you perform in real time like a DJ using the dedicated front-panel controls. Get your hands on the filter, delay, short looper, and user-assignable effect — all of which can be creatively adjusted with the four front-panel buttons and two control knobs.
Multi-Pad Sampling
There’s much more to the SPD-SX than meets the eye. A powerful-yet-friendly lineup of features has been built into this little powerhouse, such as Multi-Pad Sampling. While audio streams in from an external audio player or computer (via Audio In or USB), simply strike each pad at the appropriate start/end points, and the sample will be automatically truncated and assigned to that pad. It’s a fast, friendly way to create multi-sampled phrases and pad maps.
SPD-SX Wave Manager Software Included
The SPD-SX’s generous internal memory (4 GB) lets you store and carry your entire sample library inside. With no external memory required, you can house approximately 720 minutes of audio (10,000 files) at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz, mono. The built-in USB ports let you directly import audio files from USB flash memory. The bundled SPD-SX Wave Manager software app lets you import audio files directly from computer via USB, assign the samples to each pad, and organize the thousands of samples efficiently.

User questions & answers
Question: | will this machine let you tap out you beats ,for recording already written songs |
Answer: | No Electronic Drum Set normally includes Bass Drum Pedals, Thrones or Sticks. |
Question: | Other than the additional 100 patterns, what are the main differences between this and the sr16? better chip? more features? anything |
Answer: | I don't have a decibel meter, but I can tell you it is unlikely anyone in an adjacent apartment will know you are playing. Maybe if your drums are set up right next to the dividing apartment wall *and* you're beating the heck out of them then your neighbor might notice a slight ticking sound with each hit. Within your own apartment, others will most likely hear it. If someone is in a bedroom with the door closed and the TV on, and you're in another room with the door closed, then maybe they won't notice anything. It is exactly the same noise as a practice pad - even the mesh heads. So, no it's not silent, but it's 100x quieter than a real set. |
Question: | Do I have to plug the machine into en amp? My hammon organ feeds directly into the leslie |
Answer: | The sound and feel are great and as close as the real thing as it can get from an electronic set. The Mesh material in the heads gives the bounce of the drum stick almost the same as hitting a real drum. The many different types of drum sets sounds that can be changed with the push of a button is something a real drummer set will never give you. Having said that, there's still something that won't ever replace a real drum set. The two main reasons I went this route versus a real set are because I don't have much space as this set takes less space as a real one. Secondly because real sets are very loud! I work from home and also needed sanity. With this, my son can practice any time of the day with his drum headphones without disturbing me working on the room next door. He plays a real one with one of his friends and the practice he gets on his helps him tremendously. This set also requires zero maintenance or tuning. A real set needs to be constantly tuned to sound good. |
Question: | What kind of speaker system is recommended with this drum machine |
Answer: | The Firth 5AN is 16" in length; this is is 16 1/4". The 5AN is .565" in diameter; this is .551". The two pair are identical in weight. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the sample pad come with the SD card inlcuded |
Answer: | The prices factor in the cost of shipping the items as well as the cost of the custom Styrofoam shipping container to make sure the items do not break in transit. |
Question: | Does the Module experience Latency when triggering/connecting via MIDI |
Answer: | Probably shipping cost added in. |
Question: | Does this have acurate bass drum sounds? Can i use my foot on it |
Answer: | Sorry, I can not say for sure. |
Question: | Hi, i want to ask you if i can put my sampling wave 16 bit with my sd cart . so if this method is possible to do |
Answer: | I went ahead and ordered the cable yesterday. I have an older Oberheim Eclipse keyboard that has a midi connector for the sustain pedal. I had ordered a new M2 sustain pedal with a 1/4" connector. I was quite happy to see that the cable actually worked with the sustain pedal. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What do I need if I want to use an iPad instead of a computer |
Answer: | AKAI support here! You will need a Lightning to USB adapter from Apple in order to properly connect the keyboard to an iPad. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on akaipro.com/support. |
Question: | Can this connect to an iPad |
Answer: | Connecting to an iPad works with the proper adapter cable. GarageBand will work with the keyboard, but there isn’t support in that program to map the various knobs & keys. You may get different results with other midi compatible programs on the iPad. |
Question: | I bought one but code did not work , where can I complain. They sent another code still not working! So frustrated |
Answer: | You can complain anywhere. At work, to your family, even out loud to yourself in public. But I would go to the akai website. You should be able to contact the company directly |
Question: | Does is work with FL studio |
Answer: | M-Audio support here! This will work perfectly in FL Studio. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email us using the contact information on maudio.com/support. |
