12 best digital mixer

A digital mixer, often referred to as a digital audio mixer, is a piece of audio equipment used in various professional audio applications, including live sound reinforcement, recording studios, broadcasting, and music production. Unlike traditional analog mixers, digital mixers process and manipulate audio signals using digital technology, providing numerous advantages in terms of flexibility, sound quality, and functionality.

Here are some key features and aspects of digital mixers:

  1. Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Digital mixers use DSP technology to process audio signals. This allows for precise control over various aspects of sound, such as equalization, effects, dynamics processing, and routing.

  2. Presets and Recall: Digital mixers often have preset settings that can be saved and recalled, making it easier to set up for specific events or performances. This feature is particularly valuable for live sound engineers who need to quickly switch between different setups.

  3. Flexibility: Digital mixers offer a high degree of flexibility in signal routing and processing. They can handle a wide range of inputs and outputs, making them suitable for complex audio setups.

  4. Remote Control: Many digital mixers can be controlled remotely using dedicated software or even mobile apps. This is useful for sound engineers who need to make adjustments from different locations within a venue.

  5. Integration with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs): Digital mixers can often interface with DAW software, allowing for seamless recording and playback of audio tracks.

  6. Built-in Effects: Digital mixers often include a wide range of built-in effects, such as reverb, delay, compression, and EQ, which can be applied to individual channels or the overall mix.

  7. MIDI and Network Connectivity: Many digital mixers support MIDI and network connectivity, enabling integration with other digital audio equipment and allowing for remote control and automation.

  8. Compact Size: Digital mixers are available in various sizes, including compact and portable options, making them suitable for both small and large-scale applications.

  9. Digital Audio Quality: Digital mixers offer high-quality audio processing with low noise and distortion, resulting in cleaner sound compared to some analog counterparts.

  10. Scene Management: Digital mixers often feature scene recall functionality, which allows users to save and recall different mixer setups for different songs, events, or venues.

  11. Multi-Channel Recording: Some digital mixers offer multi-channel recording capabilities, allowing users to capture each input channel separately for later mixing and editing.

In the context of DJ equipment and electronic music production, digital mixers are often used as a central hub for connecting multiple audio sources, such as turntables, CDJs, synthesizers, and microphones. DJs and electronic music producers can benefit from the precise control, effects, and flexibility offered by digital mixers to create and manipulate their sound.

In summary, digital mixers are essential tools in the world of professional audio, offering advanced features and capabilities that cater to a wide range of applications, from live sound reinforcement to studio recording and electronic music production.

Choose Your Channel

The DDM4000 struts 5 independent channels. Channels 1-4 are crossfader-assignable stereo channels, suitable for both vinyl and CD decks, and have appropriate phono/line level toggle switches at the input. All channels feature 3-band digital EQs with up to 12 dB of boost and infinite cut option, or "kill." Any channel can be monitored directly via headphones thanks to the PFL switch above the fader.

A dedicated Mic channel is provided in mono, with 2 XLR mic inputs. The vocal channel features a special "talk" feature that attenuates the volume of the other 4 channels, ensuring you will be heard over the music. The Mic channel also has its own FX section that can be applied with a single button.

Cross My Heart

The core functionality of any DJ mixer lays in its crossfader. The DDM4000's crossfader can be assigned to any of channels 1-4, and sports a 3-band EQ kill button on either side. The curve sensitivity of the crossfader is adjustable, and in the unlikely event that you wear it out, the crossfader itself is replaceable.

Step Up Your Sampling

The DDM4000's BPM-synced sampler is a sought-after addition. The sampler allows you to record a segment of incoming audio and loop it continuously without dropping the beat. Once your track is looping from the sampler, you can swap discs and queue up new tracks and mix them back in. The transition is seamless!

Effects

The DDM4000 features a stunning dual FX section that includes our patented BPM counting technology. This allows the mixer to read/display the BPM of 2 different inputs and to apply BPM-synchronized effects, such as an echo synced to the beat of the music. Effects such as bitcrusher, reverb, delay, pitch shift, and more are available, and can be assigned independently to multiple channels.

The DDM4000 is ideal for a club owner who has multiple working DJs performing on a recurring basis. User preferences like fader curve, FX settings, EQ, kill frequencies, etc., can all be set to various user accounts and recalled instantly. This feature can eliminate setup time between DJs altogether!

Swimming Upstream

When you combine the DDM4000's digital operation with MIDI functionality, the door to creative applications opens REALLY wide. For example, the mixer can be used as a MIDI controller for your favorite DJ software--or whatever else you like! Channel faders, EQ knobs, and button presses can all be configured to send customized MIDI data. The possibilities here are quite endless.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this compatable with self powered behringer dj speakers
Answer: This mixer can store 2 samples (There are 2 banks for storing). The length of the sample can be between 1 and 16 beats. Or you can choose "Endless recording": in this case you will choose the length of the sample. I don't know what is the maximum length in seconds (I never tried to go to the limit), but because it says endless recording and this is a sample you want and not a full song to be recorded, it should not be an issue.
Question: Does this mixer come with Traktor software
Answer: Yes you can, whatever you are using As a MIDI you may need to go online and find the mapping for it, or you can map whatever the media is yourself, Google should be a great help on step by step setup
Question: How many seconds of sample can this mixer store at a time
Answer: It is my belief that this should work on all Chauvet Hurricanes. I use it with my 1300 and it works great! I wouldn't use any other juice with my machine!
Question: can i use midi and analog at the same time? e.g. using channels 1 & 2 for computer and say 3 & 4 for cdjs
Answer: Yes, it will but depends on how many watts your fog machine is rated for, mine is 900 watts and works great on a 30x40 x 14 ft walls, just buy the Chauvet 900 watts fog machine and you will not regrade
