12 best audio interface for pcs
An audio interface for PCs is a device that facilitates the connection of audio equipment, such as microphones, instruments, and speakers, to a computer. It acts as an intermediary to convert analog signals into digital data that can be processed by the computer and vice versa. Here are key aspects related to audio interfaces for PCs:
Connection Types:
- Audio interfaces use various connection types, including USB, Thunderbolt, FireWire, and PCIe. USB is the most common and versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of users.
Inputs and Outputs:
- Audio interfaces come with a specific number of inputs and outputs. Inputs are used for connecting microphones, instruments, or other audio sources, while outputs are for connecting speakers, headphones, or other playback devices.
Preamps:
- Many audio interfaces include built-in preamps for amplifying the low-level signals from microphones or instruments. High-quality preamps contribute to better sound quality.
Bit Depth and Sample Rate:
- The bit depth and sample rate determine the audio quality and resolution. Higher bit depths (e.g., 24-bit) and sample rates (e.g., 44.1 kHz, 96 kHz) result in better audio quality but also require more storage space.
Phantom Power:
- Phantom power is necessary for condenser microphones, providing the required voltage for their operation. Many audio interfaces include switchable phantom power for compatibility with different microphones.
MIDI Connectivity:
- Some audio interfaces have MIDI inputs and outputs, allowing users to connect MIDI controllers, synthesizers, and other MIDI-equipped devices.
Direct Monitoring:
- Direct monitoring allows users to hear the input signal directly without latency, providing real-time feedback. This feature is crucial for musicians recording or monitoring their performance.
Driver Support:
- Reliable driver support is essential for compatibility with different operating systems. Many audio interfaces come with dedicated drivers, and some are class-compliant, meaning they work with standard drivers without additional installation.
Software Compatibility:
- Audio interfaces often come bundled with digital audio workstation (DAW) software or plugins. Compatibility with popular recording software like Pro Tools, Ableton Live, or Cubase is crucial for seamless integration.
Rack-Mountable vs. Portable:
- Audio interfaces come in both rack-mountable and portable formats. Rack-mountable interfaces are suitable for studio setups, while portable interfaces are convenient for on-the-go recording.
Loopback Functionality:
- Some audio interfaces offer a loopback feature, allowing users to capture computer audio along with external inputs. This is useful for tasks like podcasting or live streaming.
Monitoring Options:
- Quality audio interfaces provide various monitoring options, including headphone outputs, multiple speaker outputs, and control knobs for adjusting volume levels.
Audio interfaces are essential tools for musicians, producers, and audio engineers, enabling them to connect a variety of audio equipment to their computers for recording, mixing, and playback purposes. When selecting an audio interface, considerations should be made based on the specific needs of the user and the intended use cases.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the headphone jack on this for monitoring your inputs, or does your PC audio come through it aswell |
Answer: | Hi, You can monitor your inputs and listen to playback from your computer simultaneously, which allows you to create overdubs with next to zero latency. You can either choose to monitor the inputs using the Direct Monitor switch, or you can use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW. If using the Direct Monitor feature the input signal will be passed directly to the line and headphone outputs, whereas if you use the Input Monitor feature in your DAW, you will be hearing the audio you're recording back from your DAW. In either case, you can still hear any other audio playing back from your DAW at the same time as recording. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |
Question: | What type of usb cable does this come with? is it a type-c to type-c or a type-c to type-a |
Answer: | Hi, This comes with a type-c to type-a cable. If you have type-c ports, you will need to purchase a type-c to type-c USB cable separately. Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |
Question: | Does the XLR input only record audio to the left side |
Answer: | Hi, When recording a single microphone, you should ensure that you create a mono audio track in your DAW instead of a stereo audio track. When you record onto a mono audio track, the output from that track will be heard on both sides of your headphones or speakers (ensuring the output is set to stereo), however, if you record onto a stereo track, the audio will just be recorded onto the left side of a stereo file and you will ony hear it on the left of your headphones/speakers. This is explained in more detail here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/206849779?flash_digest=62885ef974b4eb116f3b3ea2c9b9c38ddb871473 Best regards, Laurence Clarke // Focusrite Technical Support |

User questions & answers
Question: | It appears that phantom power gets switched on all 4 mic pres simultaneously. Can I use dynamic & condenser mics together without causing damage |
Answer: | Because the one in the front is NOT powered. The rear inputs can power mics or active pickups, up to 48v. I run 9v batteries in all my active guitars, so they're already powered, so I just run all my guitars into the front input. If I'm recording my 4x12 cab, I use the XLR in the back with my SM57. |
Question: | will this power a microphone that requires phantom power? sorry if this is a dumb question, im new to XLR microphones |
Answer: | Your question has me curious. The data speed for this device will not get close to the rates requiring a cable with the thunderbolt 3 type throughout. The audio stream will get there just as fast with their stock cable and with a reasonably priced ($6-10) usb type c cable. The nicer cables are more about throughput than latency. |
Question: | Can it write four tracks simultaneosly |
Answer: | Audio is routed from the computer through USB-C to Evo. There are two 1/4” outputs on the back of the Evo to plug into speakers. |
Question: | Does this include a usb power cable that goes from the interface to the computer |
Answer: | My interface remembers its gain settings when rebooting. Both when I power cycle the unit and when my computer power cycles. Make sure you download the most up to date drivers for it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use a USB headset with this |
Answer: | We found that if you have the GoXLR, and a USB headset, that we can still get the sound over. Put a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord from the headset output on the GoXLR, and into the Line In port on the back of a computer. Then, use the 'Listen to this device' option in the sound settings to redirect sound from 3.5mm Line In, and output to the USB headset. Can use a guide like https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/126383-listen-microphone-through-playback-device-windows.html to see the process. Couple things to note - If you hear a buzzing or feedback, you may need to get a quality 3.5mm Ground Noise Loop isolator, and be sure to get a quality 3.5mm cable, otherwise the sound may sound a bit degraded. |
Question: | Can i use this to get xbox audio through to my pc speakers |
Answer: | Yes, pretty easily I might add. |
Question: | Does this have phantom power for the xlr |
Answer: | Yes, it supports 70 Db of gain in addition to the phantom power. So it can run nearly and microphone you throw at it. |
Question: | Is this Mac compatible |
Answer: | Currently, windows only. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use it with phantom power |
Question: | Is this capatible with Chromebook? And what mix apps on chromebook do I need for this |
Answer: | Yes, pretty easily I might add. |
Question: | Can I connect a smartphone via Bluetooth to do a phone interview on a podcast, all the while that person hear me and my listeners hear that person |
Answer: | Yes, it supports 70 Db of gain in addition to the phantom power. So it can run nearly and microphone you throw at it. |
Question: | Will this work with a usb microphone |
Answer: | Currently, windows only. |

Answer: | Yes, it does come with a download code. |
Question: | If i'm doing a podast, can i record plug my phone into any of these ports and record a call? alongside two xlr mics |
Answer: | Hi Matt,Alesis support here! You can connect your phone from the headphone jack to any of the line-level inputs, and it will record alongside two XLR mics. If you have any other questions for me, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. |
Question: | What is the difference between the main out, and monitor out? Can I control two sets of speakers, and a headphone volume independently with this mixe |
Answer: | Think of it like a concert, Main Out is the speakers the crowd would hear. Monitor Out is the speakers turned backwards that the musicians hear. Headphone Out is what the producer behind the mixer listens to. And yes, you can control the volume on all three of those outputs independently from each other. |
Question: | I'm looking to do live mutitrack recording. does the usb interface send more then one stereo master track |
Answer: | Evening... I downsized from the Multimix 4 to a two-channel mixer, basically used for my audio book recordings. If memory serves me correctly, this does offer 2 track in/out via the bus (stereo, of course). Sorry I couldn't be of more help...have you checked out the specs at places such as B&H, Sweetwater, zZounds and so on? |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the input impedance? Can this be used with a piezo contact mic |
Answer: | Dear buyer, Thank you for asking this question. Its length is appr. 2meter. Thank you again. Enjoying your shopping from our store for this MIDI cable. Best wishes, PowMate team. |
Question: | Does this work on 64-bit computers/DAWs |
Answer: | Use it with a Mac. Don't have knowledge of Linux, so can't help you there. |
Question: | Can you plug the 1/4” end into the recording output of an amplifier and then the usb into the computer? mesa mark iv into imac garage band |
Answer: | A computer is required. For standalone applications, old Anatek kit is good and I use MIDI Solutions devices, too. I've also used some M-Audio MIDI Sport devices that were USB and standalone. |
Question: | How long is the cable |
Answer: | If you mean independent of a computer/daw with a built in transport control and/or sequencer, no. Or if want to hook up a MIDI input and have it directly control a MIDI out, again, no. You have to have a DAW open with the interface configures within it. If you want DAWless then the MOTU MIDI Express XT is what you'll need. |

The stereo headphone output has a dedicated level control and allows you listen to either the input source or the computer output.

When used as a professional interface between a mixing console and your computer, myriad options become available. Some of these might include connecting the UCA222's RCA outputs to the TAPE INPUT jacks of your mixer or active monitors, or directly into the input channels of the mixer. Connecting to mixer input channels gives you access to equalization and allows you to use the AUX Send features of your mixer to build extremely versatile monitor mixes for your recording sessions.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this device be able to take a stereo signal, have it processed by a linux machine and then output the modified stereo signal to it's RCA outputs |
Answer: | If the device is plugged into the linux machine via the USB cable, it will do this for you. With this hookup, it will produce a 2 way signal, even simultaneously, 1 going into the computer, 1 coming out from the computer. If need be, it’s even capable of looping an output signal back in, say to a recording app on your computer. Just make sure you flip the little black monitor switch to the off position to eliminate distortion, and the signal looping back in will be crystal clear and strong. |
Question: | Do I need to buy a separate cable to use this product? I'm not really sure how the I/O system works. Can someone explain? Thanks |
Answer: | Not sure of your intended use for this product.I bought the UCA222 because the earphone jack on my Dell laptop went bad. It worked really well for my needs, it has a USB plug that connects to the standard USB port on my laptop. Then I connect my earphones to a standard plug on the device. No other cable required for me. |
Question: | Can you connect to a USB power supply and use the analog to S/PDIF output |
Answer: | I don't know about the S/PDIF but I suspect it won't work very well. I tried using the analog in to headphone jack using a USB power supply and it sounded terrible. I thought it would be a way around having to use a computer and it didn't work. Once I plugged the UCA222 into a laptop instead of a power supply it sounded way better. |
Question: | Can I connect 5 of these to get 10 independent audio output channels generated by the computer via usb |
Answer: | There's nothing technically preventing you from connecting 5 of these to get 10 independent audio outputs. If your software supports it, your computer will just see them as 5 individual audio cards. The problem your likely to run into is your computer does have a limit on how many USB devices can function simultaneously (USB Bandwidth). One way around this problem is to use a Quad USB PCI Card, that has 4 USB port and each one in it's own controller. The next thing you will need to consider is how many PCI lanes you have (will determine how many USB controllers your PCI bus can support) Hope this helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is the software disk or downloads |
Answer: | The Software is downloads. ProTools first requires internet connection and has a small cloud coverage, they want you to buy more space. My ProTools sessions won’t open in ProTools first. I believe the AIR Instruments it comes with requires an Ilok dongle and Ilok account for activation. The HDH 40 Headphones are cheap made compared to the HDH 50s. The Mic is ok, the interface is nice made and nice looking. It’s worth the money Guitar Center still carries the only interface this one isn’t really circulated yet! |
Question: | Is it ever in stock? been waiting for a month now with it ordered an i keep getting a different arrival time.. is it worth the wait |
Answer: | Yes. I too received different delivery dates. It arrived as soon as it was in stock. It is worth the wait. |
Question: | will it still work if it connects from a usb c to a macbook that has usb c connection?, will it work the same with a usb c/usb c cable |
Answer: | It will you can even use adapters to change its connection to usb or thunderbolt |
Question: | Hi, can i use this with fl studio |
Answer: | Hi, M-Audio support here! Thanks for your question. I can confirm the AIR 192|4 interface in this package will be suitable as an audio interface for FL Studio! I hope this helps and If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly - [email protected] Thanks, Krishan |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use this to connect a bands instruments, bass, guitar, and vocals to the computer and record them all live at the same time |
Answer: | Yes. Up to 4 instruments can be mixed into a stereo output that can go to stereo headphone and EITHER 2 speakers, a PC via a USB2 cable or to another device via Bluetooth wirelessly. There is a digital selector in top center. The USB2 can apparently also be used as input as there are playback control buttons as well. Have not tested. Note that the 2 odd looking inputs in the upper left corner are intended for mics and can take either XLR 1/4" phone plug connectors. |
Question: | Can this plug directly into an iPhone using a usb to lightning adapter to record using the iPhone |
Answer: | Hi, unfortunately no. You have to connect the mixer to a laptop or computer. Please check the video link below. Thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHc2s9Wg9ns |
Question: | is it plug and play |
Answer: | Yes just plug and play. I used it twice on streaming. It's very good machine. |
Question: | Does this mixer has a built in sound card or will I have to use an external one if I want to records with condenser mic |
Answer: | The instructions say that it includes a built in sound card; however, no matter what I do, I cannot get any microphone to cooperate with this mixer to record on a PC. While I plug and unplug the cable, feedback will record, but no voice will travel from the mic through the mixer and into the PC. |
