Question:	Could the 14" function as a hand crash in a perc setup
Answer:	No. In my opinion, they’re perfectly inbetween Zildjian Ks and A Customs. They are good for small venues and/or if you use overhead mics. I like the “buttery” sound....not too harsh. Personally, I like them much better than A Customs which I find too loud and brash.

Answer:	Yes, that is correct. The 18" was OK as a ride, but I bought a 20" to use as a ride and am using the 18" as a crash. Much happier.

Answer:	Not really, sometimes I'll wear earbuds if I'm playing for a while. You should be fine without ear protection though.

Answer:

Before I answer your question, let me give my observations as to how L80 cymbals differ from Gen16 cymbals. L80 cymbals and Gen16 cymbals are NOT EXACTLY THE SAME. They both have hundreds of holes and, when played acoustically, are lower in volume than traditional cymbals. But I would describe Gen16 cymbals as being "brighter", both in appearance and in sound characteristic. The Gen16 buffed bronze cymbals look a bit like "Zildjian A Custom" cymbals, but with holes. The Gen16's have a very bright, polished finish and they sound very bright and crisp as well. The L80's have a bit more "muted" finish (think of a matte finish photo vs a glossy photo - it almost reminds me of a powder coated metal), and the overall sound of the L80 cymbal is also quieter than the Gen16 counterparts. Now, to answer your question. I ordered a L80 16" crash to add on to my Gen16 set - mainly because the L80 version is about $30 cheaper than the Gen16 16" crash. And, before placing that order, I contacted Zildjian directly and asked them about using the L80 on the DCP module. They said it would work fine. And, technically, it does. So, yes, you can use these guys with the DCP module. BUT, there are some things to consider. First off, while I know there are some people still using the first generation of "microphone style" pickups for the Gen16 cymbals, I don't think the L80's produce enough acoustic volume to work well with that style of pickup. So, you'll have better luck if you're using the newer "Direct Source Pickup". Secondly, if you're using a mix of Gen16 cymbals and L80 cymbals in the DCP module at the same time, the acoustic sound you get from the Gen16's will be louder and brighter than what you get when you hit the L80's. The electronic sounds, when amplified, can be adjusted so that both cymbals have relatively equal volume. But, sitting behind the drums, the difference in the acoustic sound of the two types of cymbals messed with my senses and drove me crazy. It might be better if you exclusively use L80 cymbals with the DCP module. Then they would all produce a relatively equal acoustic sound and could be more easily adjusted on the module. Good luck!
