13 best electric fiddles

Electric fiddles, also known as electric violins, are modern variations of traditional acoustic violins. They are designed to produce sound electronically and are commonly used in various musical genres, including rock, jazz, and contemporary classical music. Here's what you need to know about electric fiddles:

  1. Design and Construction:

    • Electric fiddles closely resemble traditional violins in terms of shape and structure, with a body, neck, fingerboard, and strings.
    • The key difference lies in the pickups and electronics incorporated into the instrument. These components allow the electric fiddle to convert string vibrations into electrical signals.
  2. Sound Production:

    • Electric fiddles produce sound by converting the vibrations of the strings into electrical signals, which are then amplified through an external amplifier or speaker system.
    • The use of pickups and electronic components allows for various tonal options and effects, making electric fiddles versatile for different musical styles.
  3. Amplification:

    • To produce audible sound, electric fiddles require amplification through an external device, such as an amplifier or a PA system.
    • The player can control the volume and tone of the instrument using knobs and controls on the electric fiddle itself or through the amplifier.
  4. Tone and Effects:

    • Electric fiddles offer a wide range of tonal possibilities and effects.Players can manipulate the sound with onboard controls or through external effects pedals.
    • This versatility allows musicians to experiment with various sounds, making electric fiddles popular in genres where traditional violins may not be suitable.
  5. Use in Various Genres:

    • Electric fiddles are used in a variety of musical genres, including rock, jazz, blues, country, and fusion.
    • They are also employed in contemporary classical music and experimental genres, where their unique sound capabilities can be fully explored.
  6. Portability and Stage Performance:

    • Electric fiddles are often preferred for stage performances due to their ability to produce a louder and more distinct sound when amplified.
    • Their design allows for greater mobility on stage, and they can be used with effects and other electronic instruments.
  7. Variety of Models:

    • There are many different brands and models of electric fiddles available, each with its own features and tonal characteristics.
    • Players can choose from various body shapes, materials, and finishes to suit their preferences and needs.

In summary, electric fiddles, or electric violins, are modern musical instruments that use electronics to amplify and shape their sound. They offer a wide range of tonal possibilities and are commonly used in a variety of musical genres, making them a versatile addition to the world of orchestral strings and musical instruments.

User questions & answers

Question: Does it come with a shoulder rest
Answer: Hi , this violin no play with earphone. Para afinar as cordas precisa de um aparelho de afinar cordas. Esse nao vem incluso neste violino.
Question: What's the size of the violin
Answer: You can absolutely play this violin acoustically. The Electronics are just there if you happen to ever want to plug it in!
Question: What's the weight of the violin alone
Answer: It's easy! Get an amp to headphone jack converter, just plugs into the amp port on the violin and provides headphone ports. You'll also need a muter, it's a big rubber thing that slips over the strings and bridge, that reduces sound allot, but not so much that the headphones wouldn't pick it up. I'll drop some links below:Muter:http://www.amazon.com/Glaesel-Violin-Ultra-Practice-Mute/dp/B0002II6V0/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1430597446&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=glasser+muterAdapter:http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JSVO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=5CARPKV8BWHG&coliid=I1HLDE6SLLNSYB

About Tuning

  • Adjust the pitch of each string using the pegs.
  • After tuning is complete, make sure that the tailpiece side of the bridge is still properly aligned. If the bridge is leaning in either direction, slightly loosen the strings and carefully re-align the bridge using both hands.
  • When the pegs can not tighten the strings, pitch the place between issue peg and peg box with rosin to increase the friction so that the issue peg can tighten the strings.

1. Loosen the strings slightly

To avoid snapping a string while placing the bridge, loosen the strings slightly. You loosen violin strings by turning the tuning knobs on the end of the violin. Strings should be loose enough that you can easily pull them up and down, allowing them to be lifted up enough to slip bridge under the strings.

2. Positioning the Bridge

The lower side of the bridge is the e-string side, and the taller side of the bridge is the g-string side. Put the bridge in the place of trough-like cuboid, make sure the e-string comes over the e-string side, and the g-string comes over the g-string side.

If you don't know which strings are which, when the violin's head is facing your body, the g-string will be the string farthest to the left. The e-string will be the string farthest to the right.

3. Tighten the strings

Now you can re-tighten your strings to keep the knob in place. Gently turn each knob on the bottom of the violin. It's a good idea to use one hand to hold the bridge in place while tightening the strings, to prevent it from falling over. Tighten the strings until they are secure enough to keep the bridge in place while still having a very slight amount of slack.

How to choose violin sizes

Violins are available in 8 different sizes: 4/4 (also called full size), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32. Size 4/4 is the biggest and size 1/32 is the smallest. All adults, regardless of their size, use the size 4/4 violin.

To measure what size violin best suits you, you need to know the length between your neck and the middle of your left-hand palm (when your hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to your body, just like holding a violin). Most of the teachers prefer students to use the length from the neck to the wrist for measurement instead of the neck to mid-palm approach. The violin size determined by the neck/wrist approach would be the size that is more comfortable for students to hold. The violin size determined by the neck/mid-palm approach would be the biggest size students should use. The following table lists the length of each violin size. Find your length using your preferred approach and use that to determine the size of violin to get.

If you have a teacher, you should ask for your teacher's recommendation. If you don't have a teacher, we would recommend using the neck/wrist approach for students not using full size; for students who are deciding whether to used size 3/4 or size 4/4, use the neck/mid-palm approach. This is because it is always better those students feeling comfortable holding and playing the violin. However, while deciding between size 3/4 and size 4/4, if neck/mid-palm approach allows for size 4/4, then buying a size 4/4 is more economical since you don't have to buy another bigger size violin later. This is completely based on economical consideration. You should still decide what best suits your need.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this violin play with earphone? Does it include the fine adjustment on the strings
Answer: Yes. There are 3 sockets on the back of violin. One is "Line out" (for amp). One is "Mic" and one is "Phones". The Included cord for the amp is a little over 9 feet and is decent quality. There is no static backround noise and my violin comes in clear. *In the stock photo the amp cable is to the right of the headphones.
Question: Is this violin can play without electric too? can it play a regular violin
Answer: It has a quarter inch plug, look for either an A to D connector, or (more easily a rocksmith cable) a USB interface. Electric instruments are almost all the same you'll never have the same sound as an acoustic. But it will give you a unique and interesting sound. Especially at this price point.
Question: How would you plug this in for headphones? I don't want to disturb my housemates
Answer: I get about 81 dB playing open strings. It’s not so quiet.
Question: Does this violin kill demons
Answer: The strings come attached. In fact, as soon as my violin came in, I took it to my local music store (who strung my acoustic violin) to have him check it out to see if the violin and strings are of good quality. He thought is was decent quality. I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price. When you first get it, you will have to re-tune the strings every 10 minutes or so while you are playing, but after about a week of re-tuning (and it does need tuning less frequently with time) you are good to go. It doesn't hold a tune as well as my acoustic...I tune it before I begin playing usually, but it does hold well and the sound is fantastic. You can play it through an amp or into headphones and I think the sound quality is awesome. Hope this helps. :)
Question: can you plug it into a amp because the images do not show a jack
Answer: It's not a real trumpet, just a miniature toy/figure
Question: How can I plug it to my laptop? There is a chord but it doesn't fit the computer outlet
Answer: No
Question: how quiet is it? I would be practicing during my toddlers nap time and need it to be very very quiet/silent with out an amp or head phones
Answer: Case is the black box and stand is a silver rod type thing like the picture
Question: Does the kit come with strings attached or must you string them yourself
Answer: It is very good detail but is small for a wall as decor. With that said, yes you could display it on a wall.

User questions & answers

Question: Do you plug the headphones directly into it or plug it into an amp and the headphones out of the amp
Answer: You can plug your headphones directly into it.
Question: Can you attach shoulder straps to the case or does the case come with straps
Answer: There were straps on the case already attached but I never loosened them because the violin was cracked.
Question: Hi, I'm really interested in this product, but will the strings of the violin be tuned
Answer: Hello Firas A. I saw your question about the violin strings, and I did a ton of research on this before I got it, so I'm to help another person do the same. I got this thing earlier this year, being a newbie at the violin thing, so I'm not an expert critic on the product. However, when I received mine, my strings were installed, but not in tune. The bridge had also fallen over (the light-wood thing that holds the strings up), but that was easy to re-erect. I found a free violin tuner app for my phone, and used that to tune my violin. The strings aren't the greatest quality, but they will work until you can get them replaced with a set of good ones. Over all, the whole deal wasn't bad. Just be sure to buy a shoulder rest....
Question: Someone told me that this violin does not come with strings when you buy it, is that true
Answer: This violin comes with all the strings. I am very satisfied with the purchase as I play every week for my church and since I'm the only stringed instrument I need to be heard!

User questions & answers

Question: Can this go wireless with getaria wireless guitar transmitter receiver set 5.8gh wireless guitar system 4 channels for electric
Answer: I don't know your specific device, but this includes a very small mono plug to plug into an amplifier. My amp has a standard larger size plug, so I use a wire that includes the smaller plug on one end and a smaller one on the other. We mounted a wireless transmitter that used a smaller plug onto the violin with Velcro and the receiver plugged into the amp. It works great, But, for quality of sound, it is not really great as-is, especially with the crappy strings that come with it. We replaced the strings with Octave strings, which lowered the tone a full octave. After that, this violin became the hit of the violin groups where we played it.
Question: can this be played without the use of headphones or an amp, does it work as an acoustic as well
Answer: Without the headphone or amp, you will still hear a soft sound from the violin but not as loud as the acoustic violin since the body is solid.
Question: Can you a plug in to go wireless like the YEV
Answer: This electric violin can be played wirelessly. However, the sound it emits will be very soft.
Question: Can the mic input be fed by a sansa or a smart phone for playing backing tracks
Answer: You can connect the electric violin to these devices however, a converter might be needed.
Question: I know nothing about violins... I am purchasing for my 8 year old daughter, would I go with 1/2 size, or 3/4? Thank you
Answer: It depends on the persons size. I would take her to a music shop and see what you can learn. If I were to take a guess I would say go with the 3/4, but it really depends on the size of the child. If the 3/4 is too large, it wouldn't be for too long. The scale on the smaller violins is shorter making the reach easier for smaller hands. A music teacher at school would be a good source to settle the matter. This violin is inexpensive so if you get the wrong size it is not a big loss.
Question: Is it ready to play out of the box, or is some kind of setup required
Answer: Out of the box, just tune the violin (tuner not included), tighten the bow and rosin it for about 10-15 minutes, and the violin is set.
Question: Is Style 1 heavier than Style 2 (since one more wing)? Thanks
Answer: Style 2 is lighter than style 1 because of the missing corner, however, they are not much different in the weight.
Question: Does it come with strings
Answer: Yes, as far as I know. Mine did and only took minor tuning.
Question: what is the "hook" like thing coming out of the neck of the instrument
Answer: That is part of the wood base design. It is not a hook and is more subtle in actuality. No problems in the performance or use of the instrument.
Question: Does it come with assembled and ready to play
Answer: We set up and test all of our instruments in our shop, so if the YEV violin is ordered through our seller store on Amazon, our luthier will stand up the bridge, shape it as needed, and perform a standard instrument setup (includes testing the electronics) before it ships out.
Question: is this a 5 string or 4 string violin
Answer: The YEV104 NT is the 4-string version; the YEV105 NT is the 5-string version (natural).
Question: Dose this come with a bow
Answer: Hi, the Yamaha YEV104 NT at this price does not include a bow or case, but does include the violin, strings, and a structured cardboard box.
Question: can you plug it into a amp because the images do not show a jack
Answer: Yes. There are 3 sockets on the back of violin. One is "Line out" (for amp). One is "Mic" and one is "Phones". The Included cord for the amp is a little over 9 feet and is decent quality. There is no static backround noise and my violin comes in clear. *In the stock photo the amp cable is to the right of the headphones.
Question: How can I plug it to my laptop? There is a chord but it doesn't fit the computer outlet
Answer: It has a quarter inch plug, look for either an A to D connector, or (more easily a rocksmith cable) a USB interface. Electric instruments are almost all the same you'll never have the same sound as an acoustic. But it will give you a unique and interesting sound. Especially at this price point.
Question: how quiet is it? I would be practicing during my toddlers nap time and need it to be very very quiet/silent with out an amp or head phones
Answer: I get about 81 dB playing open strings. It’s not so quiet.
Question: Does the kit come with strings attached or must you string them yourself

Cecilio Electric Violin

Whether you're practicing, recording in studio or performing on stage, the Cecilio electric violin outfit offers excellent functionality and style. It provides violinists of all levels with the ability to practice confidently without disturbing others. The outfit features a 1/8 output jack that allows you to connect to most guitar amps or PA systems (1/4 to 1/8 cable included), volume control that allow you to choose the ambience you want, headphone jack for practice and a line-in jack for practice with a background track. This violin package includes a well-padded lightweight hard case, a bow, rosin, bridge, pickup, aux cable, and headphones. Great for Student, Intermediate and Professional Violinist.

Question: How do you plug the violin into the amp? Is there a seperate cord or do you have to buy one
Answer: A cord should have come with the violin. It has 1/4" male inputs. One side plugs into amp input the other plugs into side of violin near the chin restn
Question: can you play it thru an iphone with headphones
Answer: You could play it with headphones directly, no iPhone required.
Question: Can you exclude battery? With battery this package is not allowed in my country india state kerala
Answer: Need Battery to produce sound. No Battery no sound.
Question: My son has wireless Beats. Is there a way to connect them to the violin
Answer: Yes and it's fairly easy as far as Bluetooth connectivity goes, although it is not without some problems. You will need a Bluetooth transmitter (if you don't already have one), which will take audio output from the violin and send it to the Bluetooth Beats. I have 2 of the from Taotronics and especially like their Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter and Receiver, which you can buy on Amazon for about $40. The transmitter/receiver has a standard 3.5" stereo input jack, so you will need an adapter that goes from the 2 conductor mono-output of the violin to the 3 conductor stereo input jack, otherwise you might only hear the output in one of the Beats' earphones. Check out the "Monoprice 107128 3.5mm Mono Plug to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adaptor" at Amazon for $2.02! Now, while the transmitter also has TOS-Link connections, the violin doesn't, so you won't find that option useful for this, but you might find that useful with other audio devices. The transmitter has a pretty decent range - about 20-30 feet. Of course, the transmitter still needs to be connected with a cable from the violin but that's always been a problem - you have to connect the violin to something via a cable. The transmitter's dimensions are approximately 2 1/4" square and 3/4" thick, weighing in at just 1.3 ounces. Its lithium battery lasts a long time and it has a standard micro-USB charging port. Even if you decide not to use it for your electric violin, it's still nice to have.

Answer: I got the 4/4 size however my grandaughter has the 7/8 and she is 10. The violins are so close in size its hard to tell the difference however her bow in lenght is shorter.
Question: Is Style 1 heavier than Style 2 (since one more wing)? Thanks
Answer: 5 -7 yrs about 18"arm span 1/47-9yrs about 20"arm span 1/2
Question: Does it come with strings
Answer: The bridge is the difference. A fiddle is a violin with a flatter bridge and a violin with a rounded bridge is played in the classic style and just called violin. Fiddle, as some mentioned is related to folk, country western, zydeco, bluegrass, folksy types of music. This is because the flatter bridge allows one to play chords more easily by making it easier to bow two or more strings at once. Whereas a standard violin with rounded bridge is easier to bow single notes as one would in an orchestral setting.
