User questions & answers
Question: | Will this pedal reduce any unwanted noise coming out of the amp |
Answer: | No, if anything it will add noise. There's always gonna be a little bit of noise from an amp... maybe try a noise gate or Humbucker, or noiseless pickups. Good luck |
Question: | Will this sustain pinch harmonics so I can do a dive bomb |
Answer: | It should - it definitely extends the sustain and harmonics on my guitars, using it through a Fender Twin Reverb or an old Peavy with a Marshall head. However, that is not really my style of playing (the dive bombs), so I can't give you a definitive answer. It will also depend on your amp setup and the guitar. What I can say is that this box does thin the sound a little, making it more sterile. |
Question: | Will this sound plesant on an acoustic guitar |
Answer: | Not designed or used with acoustic instruments. Certainly not pleasant. Its a rock sound like Carlos Santana sustained notes in his solos. |
Question: | I have overdrive, distortion, & metal zone pedals in front of amp & eq, chorus, & delay pedals in the effects loop. where should i place the cs |
Answer: | You're going to want to have the compressor going into the front of the amp. As far as where you place it in your chain depends on what you're trying to get out of you cs-3. The best thing to do is experiment around with it. Try placing it at the beginning or end of your pedal chain, or later in the chain between , before, or after your distortion pedals, The placement can really change your tone drastically. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Weird question time: I'm about 135lbs, and a bit over-enthusiastic. If I jump about 2 feet in the air and land on this pedal, will it survive |
Answer: | Absolutely! You could run it over with a car. A buddy of mine dropped his phone on one and it shattered the screen! |
Question: | Where is this pedal made |
Answer: | Although alot of people instantly assume China that's not true for Boss.... Boss pedals were made in Japan up until, I dunno. Google it. But now they are made in Taiwan. The real expensive Boss stuff is sometimes still made in Japan. |
Question: | Im new to pedals and would like to know if this comes by itself, if it does what cables do i need |
Answer: | You'll just need one guitar cable from your guitar to the pedal, and a second guitar cable from the pedal to your amp. The pedal runs on a 9v battery, which is included. |
Question: | some reviews say this ships with no power adapter. is this true? you have to find one and buy it separately |
Answer: | I haven't seen this be the norm. If the pedal is unable to have a 9v battery, I have seen them include a power supply. |

DS-1 Distortion Pedal
The DS-1 Distortion is a true icon in the world of guitar effects. Introduced in 1978, BOSS’s first distortion pedal defined a bold new sound, delivering hard-edged attack and smooth sustain that’s been a staple of players for generations. The DS-1 is the top-selling BOSS compact pedal ever, and its original, unchanged design continues to inspire the creation of great music everywhere. The classic DS-1 tone is behind the signature sounds of numerous rock legends, and is ready to fuel your own signature sound today.
Genre-Defining Distortion
Before the DS-1, most distortion pedals produced harsh, buzzy tones and muddy sound at high gain settings. In 1978, BOSS engineers changed all that by developing a unique distortion circuit for the DS-1 that produces tight, hard-edged gain with rich harmonics while retaining the unique characteristics of different guitars and playing techniques. Hard rock, metal, and punk styles began to flourish in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and the DS-1’s tone had a defining influence on these genres. That trend has endured through multiple generations, and players around the world continue to seek out the classic DS-1 sound.
Gain from Mild to Heavy
From its modest three-knob interface, many different sound colors can be coaxed from the DS-1. Its pioneering two-stage circuit incorporates both transistor and op-amp gain stages. This approach is critical to the DS-1’s characteristic low-frequency fullness, which is loved by guitarists that play heavy music genres. The distortion knob offers an extremely wide range, from a mild boost for driving amps and pedals to full-throttle gain for monster rock riffs.
Powerful Tone Shaping
Unlike typical tone controls that only cut highs, the DS-1’s tone circuit features an innovative design that offers far more range. Turning the knob clockwise increases highs and decreases lows, while going counter-clockwise has the opposite effect. This lets you dial in everything from tight, cutting rhythm sounds to smooth, fat lead voices. The tone control is particularly effective for maintaining low-end definition when using the DS-1 as a booster with vintage-style amps, which often sound muddy when driven with other distortion pedals.

User questions & answers
Question: | I'm new at this, how do you connect this system between the amp and my guitar |
Answer: | you could run a bass thru this, I just don't think it would be the best sound for a BASS, I WOULD GO DIRECT ! |
Question: | Is this 9v, 12v, or 18v |
Answer: | Never tried, but I don't see why it wouldn't. |
Question: | Is there a tap tempo |
Answer: | It does. Press in both buttons, at the same time to activate it. You will need to watch the video on YouTube to learn how to set up your own sound. This thing is not user friendly when it comes to that sort of thing. |
Question: | Does the Pelt come with a power cord |
Answer: | The actual answer is: Audio output: OUTPUT/PHONES (stereo). Straight from the manual. |

Dark Matter Distortion
Dark Matter is the kind of pedal that you wanna go play for half an hour and end up spending half a day with. It’s musical, covers a super-wide range of sounds but stays true to its base, an all analog-drive circuit that reminisces plexi sounds with both a classic and modern edge.
Kicking Things Old Skool
Hard to imagine now, but there was a time before digital. If you think about it, many of the best distortion sounds stem from that era. Why? Well, it’s the analog circuits, they sound great and got a little more to give when you really punish them – it simply sounds more real, fuller and better. That’s the sound we love: dangerous, on the edge yet thoroughly musical. The sound that begs you to play harder, louder, faster and more.
Set for Tone
Distortion is great, but control is key. No one wants the ice-pick to the ears or a mushy bass-laden goo. Dark Matter delivers with bass and treble knobs, perfect for dialing in sounds precisely and lightning fast.
Channel the Gods of Rock
Dark Matter distortion adds extra versatility via a voicing switch that either adds bass for a more modern sound or fills your tone with retro vibes for an old school vintage throwback that oozes classic rock on steroids.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work with a Zoom G3n |
Answer: | Yes. You should be able to use it with any kind of guitar pedals. A volume pedal is really just taking the guitar’s volume control and putting it under your foot. It works best placed before any effects. Good for controlling volume and volume swells. |
Question: | fade one input between two separate outputs |
Answer: | Fades two stereo inputs with stereo outputs |
Question: | what are the actual dimensions on this pedal? The ad lists it as 10 x 10 x |
Answer: | It should be about 10 inches long, 3.5 inches wide and 3 inches high |
Question: | Would you recomment high impedance or low impedance if using in front of analog pedals and tube amp |
Answer: | High impedance would be best in front of pedals unless you have active pickups. If your pickups are passive definitely high impedance in front. Passive pups would need a buffered power pedal of some sort before the volume pedal for best results. However they will both work, you just may lose your high tones and color your sound. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this optical, vca, or fet compression |
Answer: | Not SO heavy, if the amp is totally clean it can get it nice and dirty, a littler crunchy. Blues/rock tones. I use it as a boost in front of a high gain head. If you're looking for a real heavy pedal try an OCD or a Maxon OD808. |
Question: | What exactly does a compressor pedal do |
Answer: | Yes, but it will add some mid range, in a good way tho. |
Question: | Works great on bass |
Answer: | Generally, I turn the amp on first. I am not sure if there is an order, but, it has never led me astray. Same order reversed for turning off. |
Question: | Whats the difference between compressor and distortion |
Answer: | It doesn't come with any patch cords and it runs on a battery (although you can get an adapter for it) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the pedal handle 12v? My pedal power supply is out of 9v outputs |
Answer: | As far as voltage goes, a pedal requiring 9V center negative power should ALWAYS receive exactly that, or you’ll almost certainly damage its circuitry. *Current* is another matter... For example, a pedal requiring 100mA can safely be plugged into a 300mA or even a 500mA port, since it will only draw what it needs. In other words, current is not "pushed" from the power supply, the pedal "pulls" only what it requires. |
Question: | Both the 1st and 2nd haven't worked. guitar in the input, output running to the amp, 9vt adapter plugged in and working. i get clear tone but no bp |
Answer: | It might be faulty then |
Question: | Can i use batterys to power it |
Answer: | My power source (purchased separately) has a 9v attachment, but this box doesn't have a battery compartment nor does it come with a power source/cable. |
Question: | Can you loop somthing that you play |
Answer: | Yes. You can loop something what you play again and again. |
