14 best pedal multi effects
Pedal multi-effects units are versatile and popular tools used by guitarists and bassists to shape and enhance their sound. These devices combine various effects into a single unit, providing musicians with a wide range of tonal possibilities. Here's what you should know about pedal multi-effects:
Versatility: Pedal multi-effects units offer a broad spectrum of effects in one compact package. Common effects include distortion, overdrive, delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser, wah-wah, and more. With a single pedal, musicians can access multiple effects to craft their desired sound.
Convenience: Instead of using individual stompbox pedals, which can be cumbersome to manage, pedal multi-effects streamline a player's setup. They allow easy switching between different effects and presets with the tap of a footswitch.
Presets: Many multi-effects pedals come with preset banks, allowing users to save and recall their preferred combinations of effects and settings. This feature is particularly useful for live performances where quick changes are required.
Tone Shaping: Pedal multi-effects units often provide extensive control over parameters, enabling musicians to fine-tune their sound. This level of customization allows for a wide range of tones, from subtle enhancements to extreme sonic experimentation.
Digital Technology: Most modern multi-effects pedals use digital processing technology, which can faithfully replicate classic analog effects and offer additional digital effects not possible with traditional analog pedals.
Expression Pedals: Some multi-effects units include built-in expression pedals that can control parameters like volume, wah-wah, or modulation depth. This adds an extra layer of expressiveness to a player's performance.
Integration: Many multi-effects pedals can be integrated into larger pedalboard setups, allowing them to work seamlessly with other pedals and effects. This flexibility is essential for musicians with complex signal chains.
Portability: Pedal multi-effects are typically compact and lightweight, making them easy to transport and suitable for both stage and studio use.
Cost-Effective: Purchasing a multi-effects pedal can be more cost-effective than buying individual stompboxes, especially when considering the range of effects available in a single unit.
Brands and Models: Various manufacturers produce pedal multi-effects units, including popular brands like BOSS, Line 6, TC Electronic, Zoom, and more. Each brand may offer different features and effects, allowing musicians to choose the one that best suits their needs.
In conclusion, pedal multi-effects units are valuable tools for guitarists and bassists looking to expand their sonic palette and streamline their setup. With a wide array of effects, presets, and customization options, these versatile devices provide musicians with the flexibility to explore and shape their unique sound.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the usb port mean it has interface capabilities (can i record with it without an audio interface to pc |
Answer: | The PC recognizes the USB connection as a MIDI interface, which can be used to switch between patches. |
Question: | Can you delete only the previous loop that you recorded instead of the whole loop |
Answer: | No you can not delete part of a loop. In some other loopers you can undo one or more previous loops, but with the G1on you can not. When you delete a loop that was made on top of a a rhythm loop all the loops get deleted. It kind of sucks! This is about the only fault I can find w/ the G1on. |
Question: | I just bought a digitech-360 and found out i can't use the looper with the drum machine.. can you use the drums with the looper on this unit |
Answer: | Yes you can select a drum pattern and start playing it, then switch to looper mode and record while playing to the drum sounds. The drum sounds don't get recorded though, but you can play to the beat unlike the digitech 360. |
Question: | whats the difference between this and spending hundreds on different pedals |
Answer: | Lol! A lot, and not that much. This makes for an excellent practice pedal/tone lab. It's perfect for trying out different sounds and pedal combos and learning about basic signal path for FX. Some people even gig with this unit, though the G3X and G5X are considered more "Pro. Grade" though they have basically the same FX engine. Picking, buying, and building your own custom boutique pedal board is also rewarding and can provide some more unique and better quality FX... But you can literally spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Plus you'll need to try out the different pedals and build out a board. But individual pedals does give you flexibility DURING a performance. Note that the G1Xon has only two stomps and a wah. (Look at the manual, it's more complicated than that.) But basically (tl:dr) if you already know what sounds you want and you're a professional, spend hundreds on different pedals. If you want to experiment with different tone/FX and are primarily rehearsing and doing house of worship & coffee houses, buy the G1Xon. |

User questions & answers
Question: | It has amp simulators? I play live and I don't have an amp, I just connect "direct", would it work well |
Answer: | I believe it is 15. Dont quote me on it but I believe it's 15...And you will most definitely need to use a power supply with this particular pedal...I use a One Spot for my 3 pedals....It's just easier on the mind knowing its down there whenever I'm gigging....Question in return, ,,Do you Definately want digital as opposed to analog?... |
Question: | Can I run the preamps through my real tube amp with no problems or is that only for amp simulation for without a amp? Don’t want to mess up my amp |
Answer: | Yes the delay pedal can run on a 9V battery |
Question: | Can you bypass the amp simulations and just use the different effects pedals |
Answer: | Yes it can self oscillate. And with the dirty repeats it sounds amazing. Joyo did an amazing job on this pedal. But it shouldn't be called a digital delay. It has dirty tape echo with warm repeats. Sounds kinda like a eh memory boy Without all the bells and whistles. I've bought 2 of these because I likes it so much and wanted to use them in unison for different timings. |
Question: | Does this have a looping feature? If so, what is the maximum length of the loop that can be created |
Answer: | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj5AgDItbl0 Please click the link and you can find the video, hope you like our wireless system, thank you! |

ME-80 Guitar Multiple Effects Processor
Mobile, battery powered, and filled with a diverse selection of flagship-quality BOSS amps and effects, the ME-80 is the ideal compact tone processor for performing guitarists. A friendly knob-based interface makes it simple to dial in great sounds in seconds, while easily selectable operation modes offer the flexibility of individual stompbox-style on/off or instant recall of complex multi-effects setups. Unique new footswitches deliver twice the control of previous designs for efficient and intuitive effects switching, patch selection, and real-time sound shaping while playing on stage. The free BOSS TONE STUDIO software unlocks even more tonal possibilities, providing a cool graphical interface for tweaking and organizing sounds on your computer, plus a web connection to BOSS TONE CENTRAL for direct access to free gig-ready patches created by top pro guitarists and much more.
A Huge Selection of BOSS Effects in One Pedal
No matter what style you play, it’s easy to craft your own personal sound with the ME-80’s wide range of built-in effects. A complete history of gig-ready BOSS tone processing is at your command, from multiple overdrives and distortions to wahs, mod effects, pitch shifters, delays, and beyond. BOSS’ groundbreaking Multi Dimensional Processing (MDP) technology is represented with the unique, spacious ambience of Tera Echo and the distinctive tone-shaping possibilities of Overtone. Updated COSM preamps include new additions such as Crunch and Metal, plus an AC preamp designed for acoustic/electric guitar. The onboard expression pedal can be used for foot volume and pedal effects like wah, octave shift, and Freeze, and it’s also possible to control effects parameters such as mod rate, delay oscillation, and more for expressive real-time sound shaping.
Instant Gratification with Dedicated Knobs
Unlike typical menu-driven multi-effects processors that are complicated and unintuitive, using the ME-80 is as easy as using a stompbox. Effects are organized into eight logical categories that can all be active at the same time. Seven categories contain multiple effects types to choose from, plus dedicated knobs for selecting a type and adjusting it with a set of parameters you’d find in the pedal version of the effect. The Pedal FX category has its own knob for quickly assigning a particular effects type or function to be controlled by foot with the expression pedal. With this familiar and friendly interface, you’re able to dial up and play great tones instantly, just like using a large pedalboard filled with your favorite stomps. But a major advantage over that pedalboard is that you can to save all the current knob settings to one of the ME-80’s 36 user patch locations, allowing you to recall custom effects configurations at the touch of a pedal.
Stompbox Immediacy or Multi-FX Power: You Decide
The hands-on experience that stompbox control provides is perfect for tweaking tones as you go. However, there are times when switching among an entire group of preset effects is more efficient, such as when you’ve set up complex tones for different songs. The flexible ME-80 supports either approach, giving you the best of worlds. In Manual mode, the categories function like individual stomp effects, with instant adjustment via the panel knobs and on/off control with dedicated footswitches. By entering Memory mode, seven footswitches are automatically reconfigured to select user or preset patches and patch banks, letting you recall complete multi-effects setups directly. One footswitch on the ME-80 is dedicated just for mode switching, so you can toggle between Manual and Memory modes any time you want, even in the middle of a song.
New Footswitch Design Delivers Twice the Control
The ME-80 offers easy usability while performing, with eight multifunction footswitches for direct control of effects on/off, bank/patch selection, and mode switching, plus convenient access to alternate functions such as tap tempo, tuner, looper control, and more. A special control (CTL) function is also assignable in each patch, letting you toggle grouped effects on/off or adjust a specified parameter in real time. The newly developed footswitch style provides two switches in the space occupied by one in previous designs, allowing BOSS to equip the ME-80 with a generous array of foot-operated controls while keeping the unit extremely compact and mobile. In addition to the eight main footswitches, the expression pedal is equipped with an integrated toe switch that toggles between foot volume and the current Pedal FX setting.

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it have a guitar synthesizer effect |
Answer: | Not that I’ve seen. It’s not like a MIDI controller but there are some strange effects that are pretty out there. |
Question: | Can you use the looper pedal at any time? i've currently got a boss me-80, but it seems the looper is only available in manual/no custom effect mode |
Answer: | The looper pedal is just one of the many effects that you can include in your chain, so yes, you can include any of the several versions of a looper pedal in any effects chain, as long as you have the empty slot(s) and the available processor power. You just got me wondering what might happen if you were to include two or more loopers in one chain. I think I'll go try it! |
Question: | Do you always have to hold for the tap tempo |
Answer: | The tap tempo is a specific setting that you need to navigate to. It's actually pretty easy to do in a live setting. |
Question: | Does the g3xn use batteries like the g3x |
Answer: | Mine just has a wall-wart, no battery compartment. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you run a bass through this board? Already have it, and I only will play bass for a gig |
Answer: | It comes with two actually |
Question: | Will this work on a line 6 amplifier |
Answer: | No. It works with the power supply for most guitar pedals. |
Question: | Does this pedal have a built in guitar tuner |
Answer: | More or less yes, BUT I'd 100% recommend grabbing the empress reverb if you're really just after a plug and play reverb pedal. You'll more easily have way more reverb capabilities with the empress reverb and it is by far my favorite reverb pedal on the market. You will not regret buying the reverb by itself (don't think "the zoia can do everything so I don't want to buy a reverb if it's redundant") the zoia can do everything, but the reverb is such a great standalone pedal and is a lot more "plug and play" than the zoia |
Question: | Is this a "Stereo" Pedal. w/ Ping Pong type delay |
Answer: | Amazon, or direct from char broil |

User questions & answers
Question: | How close in features and sound is this to the harley benton version. Looks very similar |
Answer: | It comes with a splitter cable so that you can run the pedal at 18v by combining two 9v lines from your pedal power supply. It does not come with an instrument cable nor it's own power supply. You'll need a power supply for this pedal. |
Question: | Could the power supply be used with 220v power socket |
Answer: | I purchased the Dunlop ECB004 to use with mine, and it works very well. I also use the daisy chain from my Boss tuner that powers my other pedals when I don’t feel like using the extra outlet. |
Question: | Is that the volume pedal that is attached |
Answer: | Yes, like most od pedals it has some fizz. I use a Boss noise gate pedal and it cancels out all of the fizzy. That said this is an awesome overdrive pedal. |
Question: | Does this have octave and envelope filter effects for bass |
Answer: | Yes, it has an internal gain pot and an internal presence pot. |

Answer: | I own a Line 6 Pod Go, and it weighs just a little over 5 lbs. I have no idea where they’re getting that 17.36 lb weight from. Even packaged up in the box it doesn’t weight that much. It’s a great lightweight unit with a heavyweight sound! |

Answer: | No, it does not have a metronome. |
Question: | Can this be used to control perameters on a DAW |

Answer: | No, it does not have a mic input for a second channel. You may want to check out the Line 6 Helix for an additional mic input. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can you edit the setting on a PC, save the settings to the pedal and then disconnect the pedal from the PC while keeping the edited settings |
Answer: | Yes, the NUX MG-100 Processor is also equipped with wah pedal, auto wah, and touch wah effects. |
Question: | On the collider what parameters are controllable by expression pedal |
Answer: | I dont have radio noise with this device. However it depends on your setup. I have this pedal on my board and it is after my tuner, compressor and overdrive pedals. I also have 6 other pedals after this one. I am powering everything with a MXR M238 power brick. And I am plugging the power brick into a furman PT-6 power conditioner. I have little to no noise interference. My setup is pretty quiet. You might need to do some trial and error. I would start with the power conditioner to see if it removes the noise coming from the wall outlet. After that I would look at a noise gate pedal. This will cut the noise when you are not playing. THe donner Noise killer is a great cheap pedal or a ISP technologies Decimator is a industry standard but more expensive. There are other options also. And is that still does not do the trick look into an isolated power supply. This you might need to spend a few bucks on because most of the ones that are cheap are not a true isolated power supply. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you pause/unpause this |
Answer: | You can do either. Set the pitch correction to a specific key or just let it adjust automatically. I have found the auto feature works the best. |
Question: | Does it come with the power supply |
Answer: | According to the manual, 80 secs. I haven't used the looper for more than 20 secs yet. |
Question: | Could I use the pedals built in without looping |
Answer: | The VE-8 comes with an AC power supply, but that is only for the secondary to the back of the unit. You would need to get an AC converter or step-up transformer, from 120VAC to 220VAC, on the primary, for operation outside the U.S. |
Question: | Can you loop your voice and guitar at the same time |
Answer: | W Ng - I set up the Boss VE-8 differently than most, and it isn't hands free, but it is very effective. I have been using the unit live at gigs for over a year now. I cannot afford the time between songs to navigate the pedal on the ground with the different vocal and guitar effects I use (harmonies, vocal reverb, some guitar effects, etc). So I have the pedal sitting on a stand in front of me waist high (I stand). This allows me to make simple adjustments between songs by hand. I also have the Boss FS-7 foot switch set up ($60.00 on Amazon). This sits on the ground, and I am able to turn harmonies on and off during a song while continuing to play. Would also work switching on or off a guitar effect, the looper, etc. This system works very well live, and I waste very little time between songs with adjustments. i absolutely love this unit by the way. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this loop |
Answer: | It doesnt loop. |
Question: | It mentions there is a usb. does this have computer interface |
Answer: | Although Zoom claims this is an update-only USB port, Zoom themselves recently released a basic patch librarian. There is a cottage industry of people making control box footswitches for Multi Stomps. If you Google 'Patch Editor for ZOOM MS Series' you'll find a web-based editor that allows you to select patches, switch on/off individual effects and adjust parameters on each effect in the selected patch in real time. You'll need to use the Chrome browser to run it, according to the website.I have mine set up on a Windows tablet on a mic stand- I can tweak presets on the fly without bending over the pedalboard. |
Question: | Does the HPS effect output in stereo (as in, dry signal through one output and wet, pitch-shifted signal through the other)? If so, I'd buy it |
Answer: | The HPS effect outputs in mono. Dry signal coming in through the Left input is mixed with the pitch-shifter at both outputs. There are some stereo effects in the MS- series- that will come out of the stereo outs in true stereo. Also, dry stereo signal will come out the outs in stereo. You don't have any control over panning the HPS output. Also, you should know that the pitch-shift tracking isn't that great. I'd say if you want a good intelligent pitch shifter, this one ain't it. |
Question: | What type of output is the MS-50G set for if you don't include an amp sim in the effects chain (eg. Line Out, etc)? (Please, only answer if you know |
Answer: | If you choose to turn off the amp sim section the output is still the same eg: instrument pickup level + or - some impedance buffering then + or - whatever output level you choose to set in the effects unit (also EQ & compression levels). So the end result is actually what you choose to set but is more likely to be a + db level to that of the pickup (which, depending on the pickup is normally well below line level). |
