12 best modeling amps guitars
Modeling amps for guitars are a type of amplifier used by guitarists to replicate the sounds of various amplifiers, cabinets, and effects pedals through digital modeling technology. These amps offer a wide range of tones and effects, making them versatile tools for musicians. Here are some key points about modeling amps for guitars:
Digital Modeling Technology: Modeling amps utilize advanced digital signal processing to emulate the characteristics of different amplifiers, cabinets, and effects. This allows guitarists to access a vast array of tones within a single amplifier.
Amp and Effect Emulation: Modeling amps can mimic the sounds of classic tube amplifiers, solid-state amps, and everything in between. They can also replicate the effects of distortion pedals, reverb units, delays, and more.
Versatility: One of the primary advantages of modeling amps is their versatility. Musicians can switch between various amp models and effects with ease, allowing them to experiment with different sounds for different songs or musical styles.
Compact and Portable: Many modeling amps are compact and lightweight, making them suitable for gigs, rehearsals, and home practice. They are often more portable than traditional tube amplifiers.
Presets and Customization: Modeling amps typically come with preset settings that mimic famous amplifier and effect combinations. Users can also create their custom presets by adjusting parameters like gain, EQ, and effects settings.
Multiple Input Options: These amps often have multiple input options, including clean and dirty channels, as well as headphone jacks and auxiliary inputs for playing along with backing tracks or practicing silently.
Recording Capabilities: Some modeling amps have USB or direct recording outputs, making it easy to connect them to recording software for home recording or studio work.
Cost-Effective: Modeling amps can be more cost-effective than purchasing multiple traditional amplifiers and effects pedals since they offer a wide range of sounds in a single unit.
Popular Brands: Several reputable brands manufacture modeling amps, including Line 6, Kemper, Boss, Fender, and Vox. Each brand may offer different features and sound options.
Live Performance: Many professional guitarists use modeling amps for live performances due to their convenience and the ability to recreate studio-quality tones on stage.
It's worth noting that while modeling amps have made significant advancements in replicating the sound of traditional amplifiers and effects, some purists still prefer the tone of classic tube amplifiers. The choice between a modeling amp and a traditional amp ultimately depends on the guitarist's preferences and musical needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | can i record through garage band |
Answer: | honestly I've never separated the cabs I Velcro'd it stacked so its like a full stack, lemme go check THEN...................................... OK checked, heres the lo Down.. the chorus is in full stereo meaning it echos in both right and left speakers however its simultaneous and does not PAN left and right like an echoplex or true stereo echo that I could tell? you'll laugh anyways at the chord that comes with the 103, its like 24 inches long.. WHY? its phone plugs so EASY to find old home style phone cables, dunno your age maybe you've never seen one? yea int he day we had our phones connected to a wall outlet with a cable, its like a small like cat5 (rj45 is the standard name) you've seen cat5 its what your computer hooks up to the Ethernet with..all in all its WELL worth it its a GREAT little amp specially with the full stack setup, the echo works FANTASTIC and quite frankly I wish I had one that worked that well on my bigger stuff despite the non stereo panning, I have a Johnson Two Fifty and a Digitech GSP 2101 studio tube for all that stuff, yea man get a Johnson 150 250 or the digitech GSP 2101 if you want true stereo panning, WOW, I work it in QUAD and can dial it in however I like cuz its FULLY programmable with algorithms!!!tell you what tho I have mic's this little Blackstar and IT ROCKS!!! yup, if you have a board that does stereo panning then there ya go! crank n go, funny what I like to do is plug my acoustic into it then mic the Blackstar through the PA and recording or playing live that way SUCH A NICE CRISP CLEAN SOUND because yo don't have all that power in the way stepping on its own dork soaking up all the interference if ya know what I mean, try it you will be totally surprised, typing in this minuscule dialogue box is difficult at best, why so small Amazon?its a great little box (fact I tried em all cept the orange that I'm told is compatable and it smokes them ALL)not sure what you need it to do but for whatever the hunnerd for both is a FANTASTIC deal considering what it can do and the sound that can come out of it... distortion works well too, I love the little thing i use it at the park then in my bedroom so the neighbors can sleep and I don't have to pay finesfor an electric I use a nice 61 Strat that has some really really hot hand wound Gepettos then those run into a FULL Clapton mid boost, the works, yup so that lil boost in signal really makes that Blackstar a beast in its own rights..all in all I give it 10 stars with the other speaker |
Question: | it has a footswitch jack, can you go from a clean sound hit the switch and go into over drive for a solo |
Answer: | Blackstar has their own power supply specifically for this. Amazon sells it on it's own for around $20, and I believe when you buy the 3 pack, the Blackstar power supply comes with it. I can't say for sure, as I bought just the single unit. Save yourself the trouble and buy the 3-pack - the amp on it's own is incredible, and the stack is well worth the price. Just make sure it comes with the proprietary Blackstar power supply. |
Question: | Does Fuse work with this amp |
Answer: | absolutely not ! The fly 3 runs on 6volts /positive tip . When you buy the fly on amazon, the planet waves adaptor is suggested . My friend bought the fly to his son and pluged it on a 9 volts adapter...... he blew the amp . You may pay a little more but buy the right adapter, it works well and saves batteries |
Question: | What is in the box |
Answer: | Yes, for the extension cabinet, which expands this from 3w to 6w. The 3-pack is a good deal, because a) you get better volume but mainly because b) it includes the power supply, which means that c) the extension cabinet is virtually free. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would you say this is loud enough to play with a band |
Answer: | Plug into the wall |
Question: | Is it worth the extra money for mkii |
Answer: | This depends on the venue. For karaoke at home or in a very small room with a small crowd, it may be okay, but for large rooms or big crowds, you may want to invest in a good PA system. |
Question: | What does the power setting do |
Answer: | Comes with an AC power cord but does not come with the cord that goes from guitar to the amp. |
Question: | whats the differance between the 50 and the 50 mkII |
Answer: | Yes absolutely. It does have one speaker and makes plenty of sound for such a small amp. I use it for both my keyboard and acoustic/electric guitar... It has a standard input jack. You can also plug in a mic or headphones. It's very well made and lives up to Fender's quality. Good Luck, hope this helps! |

THE EVOLUTION OF A MODERN CLASSIC
Katana MkII takes the acclaimed Katana guitar amp series to the next level, turbocharging the core platform with more sounds, more effects, and more features. Newly voiced variations are now available for all five amp characters, doubling the tonal options. And the onboard effects categories have been expanded from three to five, providing even more real-time processing to choose from. The usability has been ramped up too, with a power amp input for modelers and multi-FX, updated editor software, and many other enhancements.
More Sounds, More Versatility
The stage-class Katana MkII lineup picks up where the first generation left off, building on the same core tones and features that have made the series such a worldwide smash. If you loved the original Katana amps, you'll love Katana MkII even more. And if you're new to the party, get ready for sound, feel, and versatility that soars far beyond its class.
Five Amp Characters, Ten Overall Tones
Katana MkII's five primary amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds, plus a dedicated voice optimized for acoustic-electric guitar. The characters have now been extended with newly voiced variations, providing a wider palette of tone options to craft your personal sound.
Five Effects At Once
Katana MkII now includes five simultaneous effects categories, putting the tone-shaping power of a massive pedalboard right inside your amp. Independent Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb sections come loaded from the factory with three variations in each, providing 15 ready-to-play effects to choose from. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio lets you dive much deeper if you want—customize the sections with over 60 different effect types, change the order with four different chains, and much more.
Full-Throttle Sound Every Time You Plug In
Backed by BOSS's Tube Logic approach, Katana MkII delivers the authentic output distortion characteristics of genuine tube amplifiers, with the sound and feel becoming richer and more responsive as you turn up the volume. But unlike that classic tube amp, Katana MkII's variable Power Control makes it easy to fly in the sweet spot without getting fired from the gig or kicked out of the house. Just throttle back the overall volume as needed to enjoy inspiring, cranked-amp sound anywhere you play, from bedroom to stage.
Amplify Your External Gear
The Katana-50 MkII rocks as a standalone amp, but it also excels as a powered cabinet for a favorite preamp, modeler, or multi-effects unit. Connecting to the rear-panel Power Amp In jack bypasses Katana MkII's preamp and effects, letting you tap straight into the Tube Logic power section, complete with grab-and-go Power Control. And with BOSS Tone Studio, the input can be easily optimized for your particular gear with a high-pass filter and adjustable gain.
One-Touch Recall Of Custom Setups
One of the Katana-50 MkII's most powerful features is the ability to store favorite amp character and effects setups in Tone Setting memories for instant recall. After you've dialed in a sound with the panel controls, simply save it to the desired memory with a quick button hold. Four Tone Settings (two banks of two) are available, with fast selection right from the panel. It's also possible to connect external footswitches for hands-free control on the gig.
Ready-To-Mix Direct Tones
The Katana-50 MkII features USB and phones/recording outputs with mic'd cabinet emulation, letting you send mix-ready amp tones to a computer DAW or headphones. The direct sound can be shaped with three different Air Feel settings, which are accessible from BOSS Tone Studio. Two-channel USB operation is supported, allowing you to track in true stereo with many of Katana's modulation, EQ, delay, and reverb effects.
BOSS Tone Studio Enhancements
BOSS Tone Studio has also evolved alongside the Katana MkII amplifiers. The interface has been updated with a refreshed look, and a number of parameters have been consolidated into the main screen for faster workflow. There's also a dedicated Pedal FX category, making it easier to assign wah and pedal bend effects to a connected expression pedal. And if you're a first-gen Katana owner, it's possible to import your custom patches and use them all with Katana MkII.

Question: | Is this good for piano keyboard |
Answer: | I never tried this but I would imagine you could do all kinds of cool stuff with this amp and a keyboard. As far as the amp goes it is the best one I own and super loud with so many variables. I Love It... Don't know if this will help... Good Luck |
Question: | How do you use it with a microphone |
Answer: | This is not a good amp for a microphone but if needed you could use the acoustic guitar settings for a microphone if the mic has @ 1/4 "jack. if you want an amp that is good for a microphone you are better off going with an amp that has 1/4" jacks as well as xlr input wich is most common with a quality mic. I personally like the acoustic brand amps for my microphones they are designed for an electric acoustic guitar and have xlr inputs and the reverb settings work well with microphones. Peavey also makes awesome products for running microphones check out there website you will find what you need rosemary. Sincerily Rick Barkle |
Question: | what are the demensions |
Answer: | 17"w x 9"d x 15"h |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a 220 volts |
Answer: | The one I have is with the 120 volt power supply. You may be able to use an adapter though. |
Question: | Will this work with the Line 6 G30 transmitter |
Answer: | Yes, mine works with the Line 6 G30 transmitter |
Question: | Are all 15 amps selectable at the amp or do you need the phone app to access the other amps |
Answer: | I believe you can select the options at the amp. I’ve had one for years and all options are on the amp. This amp you have is far more advanced than mine. Great amps! |
Question: | can i plug my guitar in directly to the amp or does it only work with a wireless connection |
Answer: | Yes you can plug the amp directly into a wall outlet and use it like a regular amp or plug it in just long enough to charge the amp and then unplug the cord for wireless use. So you can use the amp both ways. The amp does have more power (louder) with it’s plugged in to an outlet. Also you can use a standard guitar jack to plug the guitar into the amp or I purchased a Line 6 (Yamaha) wireless adapter so no cord needed. It’s matched for this amplifier. I paid $99 for it and it recharges right in the amp then simply plug into the guitar and you are totally wireless. The Bluetooth feature let’s you play backing tracks from your phone, tablet or computer from your music app or YouTube. Hope this helps! |

The Third Amp
Guitarists are familiar with the tube amp stacks that sound amazing when turned up loud on a big stage, and with combo amps that are a perfect fit for smaller venues and rehearsal. Fully-Wireless Experience
All THR-II models feature Bluetooth connectivity for audio playback, the “THR Remote” mobile editor app, and third-party footswitch support.
THR10II Wireless and THR30II Wireless also feature a built-in rechargeable battery and Line 6 wireless receiver. Just grab your THR, your guitar and a Line 6 Relay G10T transmitter (sold separately), and play anywhere your music takes you.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it common to have to dial up Gain on the clean settings to get loud sound? I love this amp but don't know how to use clean |
Answer: | For clean sounds you want high volume and low gain. As someone else said, the gain is the pre-amp gain and the higher it is, the more you overdrive the power amp (therefore the more distortion). |
Question: | Does it come with a strap for carrying |
Answer: | Yes, but it's only long enough to carry by hand. However the strap buttons are similar to those found on a guitar, so I bet you could use a guitar strap if you wanted a longer option. |
Question: | Do you think this amp will work well for my ukulele with a regular acoustic guitar pickup |
Answer: | If for some reason your acoustic pick up is underpowered, you could always run your ukulele through a preamp to boost your signal before it hits the amp, but I don't think you will have that problem. |
Question: | Does the mike input have phantom power |
Answer: | It does not as far as I can tell looking through the manual. |

User questions & answers
Question: | cover for champion 100xl amp ? need one |
Answer: | I bought a “65 twin reverb” cover. I think the dimensions were identical, just check and make sure. |
Question: | What is the difference between 100 and the 100XL |
Answer: | XL has different speakers - Celestions vs Jensen. Also more modeling options. If like mostly play clean, you may like the Jensen's on the 100 better. I you like gain/distortion, the 100XL is better. I like things on the cleaner side, but I like the Woof the Celestion's put out. |
Question: | Can I play bass on this |
Answer: | You can but it won't have the low end frequency response of an actual bass amp. You should look at the Fender Rumble series of amps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is input power as 110 volt, 220 Volt,or 110-240 Volt |
Answer: | Metal band in a 1000 seat venue-no, local bar,100 people or less, normal drummer should be OK. A friend of mine has the 100 watt version and has been playing local gigs at 50 watts, says its just loud enough, works fine. |
Question: | Does this come in black |
Answer: | Yes. The extra features that it brings makes the MKII much more useful. |
Question: | How does the Aux input work |
Answer: | Runs the amp at 50 watts, 25 or .5 watts, different levels depending on the volume you need. .5 watt is great for when the kids are sleeping. |
Question: | Is this suitable for an electric violin |
Answer: | There are a few more effects on the MkII and the pots for effects are now dual pots to make it easier to dial in... AMP IN is now on the Katana to allow you to plug in a multi-effects board etc and bypass the amp settings.. The "sneaky amps" available on the MkI are blocked out on the MkII.. but you get 5 more voice settings on the 5 amps available for the MkII.. newer and easier software.. Patches made for the MkI work with the MkII, but the MkII patches do not work on the MkI. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I plug in my acoustic electric guitar to get distortion effects, like crunch etc, or does that work only with electric guitars |
Answer: | Hi there. The answer is yes. Since to guitar is using a some type of pickup system which require a battery/s the Yamaha amp will work. I have done the same thing using an electro-acoustic guitar. Remember though the degree of church and or distortion is determined by two things. The type of pickups being used and the GAIN setting on both the guitar and amplifier. This will take a bit of experimenting before you find the kind of sound you're looking for. Good luck. SMINC |
Question: | What is the batrery life like on the thr |
Answer: | 8 Duracell AA batteries 2500mah enough for 10-12 hours of playing |
Question: | Is 2 small speakers superior to one larger? Thanku |
Answer: | That would depend on THE VENUE and what is REQUIRED... |
Question: | Is this plug in and batteries |
Answer: | It runs from batteries, but very power hungry. The mains DC adaptor is unique to Yamaha and the charge over £40 for it. My suggestion. Avoid this product and buy a small VOX battery amp like the VOX mini 3, better sound and lasts all day on one set of better use also has mains adaptor. Hope this helps people. |
