Question:	How do you recalibrate a taylor 9840 thermometer
Answer:	take the battery out, and leave it out for a few minutes is what i did until mine stopped working totally.
Question:	How deep does the tip need to be inserted to get a valid reading
Answer:	To get the best reading I find it needs to be in the center of the meat or whatever you're cooking. For instance if I'm cooking a roast I put it in about half way and wait for the temperature to get to it's reading. Hope this helps.

Answer:	It will auto turn off if left alone for a little while Also has a manual shut off.
Question:	We accidentally threw the instructions away before reading them, so this might be a silly question. Can this go in the oven? Looks like it would melt
Answer:	This is not the type of thermometer that you leave in the oven with what ever your baking. With this type you have to open the oven once in a while and stick the probe in meatiest part to get the correct temp. After you get a reading you pull it out, turn it off and clean the metal probe, put it back in its sleeve and wait to use it again.

Answer:	While the thermometer would eventually equalize to the ambient air temperature, it would take a fair bit longer to do it. But when you first turn it on, assuming the air temperature has been constant for a while and the cover wasn't on so the metal tip was freely circulating in the air, I would think you would get an accurate reading of the ambient temperature. And perhaps give you a good way to confirm the accuracy of another thermometer...

Answer:	I'm not sure. Probably China. I've had hits and misses with this brand. Some work well for a couple of years. Others conk out after a couple of months. The buttons on this one went pretty quickly, but it depends on use. I'm a chef, and used mine every day.

Answer:	This is a very good unit which is very easy to use. The cord is some sort of high temperature rubber/plastic. It is not hurt by my oven door or grill lid. Two pieces of advice gained from experience....1.) Be careful not to overflex the joint between the probe and the cable, and 2.) never expose the cable or probe to open flame. Because of overflexing and fire I ruined two probes. I could not find a way to purchase a replacement probe, and bought complete new units.

Answer:	NO, don't use rubber or cloth tape. You can use glass tape, I think 3M has it or go to a good electric supply store. Call and ask for glass tape it won't burn. LH

Answer:	Lo for me just meant my turkey temp was below the lo temp it starts at. (was a bit frozen) After a while when the turkey cooked and warmed up the thermometer kicked in. I found this out as the same Lo came up after changing batteries.
