Not only finding shorts, but various heated or overheated components. It's fantastic for tuning transmitters, as you can watch transistors and even tuning coils and literally tune visually. (Things run cooler when transmitter tuning is properly setup/matched) It's especially helpful for large RF amplifiers with parallel transistors because you can see when they're in balance. Tuning those with a FLIR is like setting dimmer switches on a bank of light bulbs. (Except the dimmers, are of course, tuning capacitors and coils) |

| Answer: | Hello Mike,Thank You for reaching out regarding the TG130. The TG130 will sense temperature and point out differences in temperature. If the heating cable is functioning and warm up to the break, and non-functioning and cold after the break, then the TG130 will be able to show where the break is. If the break stops current flow through the cable and there is no temperature difference within the cable on either side of the break, the TG130 will not be able to detect the break.Best Regards |

| Answer: | Thank you so much for your interest in our products. This is not a normal application for our meter. However, it should provide you the surface temperature. You can also try to perform 2 or 3 readings to get a media of the values to help you with an idea of the temperature read. |

It depends on the heat differential, and the thickness of the walls. It reads the radiant heat off of a surface - so if the wall and animal are the same temperature, there will be no difference.
