10 best triple beam balances
Triple beam balances are precision weighing instruments commonly used in laboratories, educational settings, and industries that require accurate measurements of mass. These balances are known for their simplicity and reliability in determining the weight of objects. Here are some key points about triple beam balances:
Design: Triple beam balances consist of a horizontal beam supported by a fulcrum or pivot point. The beam is divided into three parallel sections or beams. The first and largest beam is the center beam, while the other two beams are smaller and positioned on either side.
Weighing Pans: Triple beam balances typically have a weighing pan suspended from the center beam. Objects to be weighed are placed on this pan.
Operation: To use a triple beam balance, the operator places the object to be weighed on the pan. The balance is initially set to a zero reading by adjusting the position of the riders (small weights) on the beams. These riders can be moved along the beams to represent various denominations of mass, usually in grams.
Reading the Mass: Once the object is on the pan, the operator adjusts the riders until the beam comes to a balance position, where the pointer (or indicator) on the center beam aligns with a fixed reference mark or zero point. The mass of the object is then determined by adding the values indicated by the riders on each beam. The mass is usually expressed in grams.
Accuracy: Triple beam balances are known for their high accuracy and precision, making them suitable for scientific experiments, chemical analyses, and educational purposes where exact measurements are required.
Tare Function: Some triple beam balances have a tare function, allowing the operator to reset the balance to zero after adding containers or additional objects to the weighing pan. This feature simplifies measurements by subtracting the mass of the container from the total measurement.
Calibration: Periodic calibration and maintenance are essential to ensure the accuracy of triple beam balances. Calibration weights are used to verify and adjust the balance's accuracy.
Applications: Triple beam balances are used in various fields, including chemistry, physics, biology, and materials science. They are commonly used for tasks such as determining the mass of chemicals, preparing solutions, and conducting experiments.
Portability: While triple beam balances are not as compact or portable as digital scales, they are relatively sturdy and can be transported within a laboratory or educational setting when necessary.
Safety: When using triple beam balances, it's important to handle delicate or hazardous materials with care, as they can affect the accuracy of the measurements. Additionally, proper cleaning and maintenance are essential to prevent contamination and ensure reliable results.
In summary, triple beam balances are traditional but highly accurate weighing instruments used for precise measurements of mass in various scientific and educational settings. They are appreciated for their simplicity, durability, and the ability to provide accurate mass measurements with manual adjustments of riders along the beams.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | The scale has a metal body and beam and is made in the USA - says so on the box, I just checked. It is sensitive and I suggest getting a set of test weights to calibrate it every time you use it.I load 45/70 and 30-06 shells and it is extremely accurate and steady. As a practice I reset the scale to zero after every 10th round and re-weigh charges occasionally while I'm working. I may be slow, but my rounds are consistent and accurate. |
Question: | Is there a user guide with this product? Is a pdf available |
Answer: | We purchased this about a year ago, and it didn't have a bullet rebate. |
Question: | Weights included |
Answer: | Hornady is now offering 100 free bullets when you buy the scale. Mike B. |
Question: | Whst is minimum weight can be weighed |
Answer: | 12 inches long. 4 inches high. 2 1/4 inches wide. |

Answer: | Hello, You can see the instructions here https://dmx.ohaus.com/WorkArea/showcontent.aspx?id=8620. |
Question: | I did not receive instructions on how to use this which states in the description. How do i get them |
Answer: | No |
Question: | is your triple beam model TP2611 has calibration certificate |
Answer: | You could simulate specific gravity with a use of a syringe by taring the syringe and then use a know volume in a syringe to come up with grams over CC of liquid in syringe. please keep in mind this has a readability of 0.1g. |
Question: | Please, I need to check for specific gravity. Is there an original owners manual that comes with this unit, and does it check for this |
Answer: | There are two 1 kilo weights and one 500 gram weight. Their actual weight is imprinted on each weight, but I do not have it with me, so I cannot tell you what they are. Of coarse the finer weights are on the beams of the scale. I am very happy with my scale. |
