Answer:	Instant readout and nice and clear. States it's waterproof. I haven't had any issues using it while it snowed outside ;)

Answer:	No. What is important for steak is the internal temperature, not the much hotter surface. It would also be impossible to isolate the temperature of the steak from that of the the grill and combustion elements surrounding it. A cool idea, but it wouldn't work, I'm afraid.

Answer:	I just measured mine for you. It is 2 and 3/8 inches across at the widest. It is 2 and 7/8 inches top-to-bottom, including the hanging hook. If that is too big look into remote sensing devices that you simply point at your target.

Answer:	There are 2 models of the 6 inch caliper. Be sure to get the model that says WITH fractions, and it will have that feature. The model with fractions will read in 3 modes. Inches in decimals, mm in decimals, and inches in fractions.
Question:	Does this do both metric and sae
Answer:	I checked my iGauging Absolute with a .1275in metal blank and it measured 3.24mm correctly. Since the iGauging is similar to the Mitutoyo their instructions say to remove the battery, re-insert it, move the jaws together and hold down Origin for one second and zero point should be reset. Other than that, make sure of the 0/ABS switch is correctly set. If it is still bad, I would return it.

Answer:	If you open the jaws and happen to press the zero button it will measure from that point. If you then close the jaws past the point where you pressed the zero button, it will read in the negative because you went passed that point of zero. Simply close the jaws all the way and press zero again to recalibrate the zero to closed position.

Answer:	This model already has the sharp pointy style inside jaws on the back that shouldn't require offsetting. But yes, you can offset with this by simply zeroing it wherever you want your offset to be. A 1.000 inch offset for example:1. Start with the jaws closed to zero, then hit the "zero" button.2. Open the jaw until it reads 1.000 inches, then hit the "zero" button.Now if you measure a part that is 1/2 inch (.500 inches) it will read -.500 inches. And if you measure a part that is 1-1/2 inches (1.500 inches) it will read .500 inches. I do stuff like this all the time when I just want to know the +/- tolerance on parts.
