14 best dental finishing strips
Dental finishing strips are thin, flexible strips made of abrasive material that are used in dentistry for various dental procedures, primarily for finishing and polishing dental restorations. These strips play a crucial role in creating a smooth and properly contoured surface for dental fillings, crowns, and other dental restorations. Here is what you need to know about dental finishing strips:
Material: Dental finishing strips are typically made from abrasive materials such as aluminum oxide or diamond particles. The abrasiveness of the strip can vary depending on the specific procedure and the type of restoration being worked on.
Width and Thickness: These strips come in various widths and thicknesses to accommodate different dental applications. Thinner strips are often used for interproximal finishing, while wider strips are used for larger surfaces.
Uses: Dental finishing strips are used for several purposes in dentistry, including:
- Interproximal Reduction: They are used to create space between teeth by reducing the width of the enamel. This is common in orthodontic treatments.
- Finishing Dental Fillings: After placing dental fillings, dentists use finishing strips to shape and smooth the restoration, ensuring it fits properly and feels comfortable to the patient.
- Contouring Crowns and Bridges: Dental professionals use these strips to refine the shape and surface of crowns and bridges to ensure they blend seamlessly with the natural teeth.
- Adjusting Veneers: In cosmetic dentistry, finishing strips are used to adjust the fit and appearance of dental veneers.
Flexibility: Dental finishing strips are designed to be flexible, allowing them to conform to the curvature of the tooth surface or restoration being worked on. This flexibility ensures that the strips can access hard-to-reach areas.
Grit Size: The grit size of the abrasive material on the strips can vary. Coarser grits are used for initial shaping and contouring, while finer grits are used for polishing and creating a smooth finish.
Single-Use or Reusable: Some dental finishing strips are single-use and disposed of after one use, while others are designed to be sterilized and reused. The choice between single-use and reusable strips depends on the dental practice's preferences and infection control protocols.
Color Coding: Many dental finishing strips are color-coded based on their grit size or purpose, making it easy for dental professionals to select the appropriate strip for a specific task.
Hygiene: Proper hygiene and infection control practices are essential when using dental finishing strips.Disposable or single-use strips can help prevent cross-contamination between patients.
Dental finishing strips are essential tools in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. They enable dental professionals to achieve precise and aesthetically pleasing results while ensuring the comfort and oral health of the patient. The selection of the appropriate finishing strip depends on the specific dental procedure and the dentist's preference for the level of abrasiveness required.

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these sand off enamel? How can I restore enamel |
Answer: | White to Blue. The white is the thinnest of the sanding strips. Start with that. You use them like floss between your teeth but instead of holding it straight attempt to contour the strips around your teeth a little bit so it sands evenly and roundly. and when you are looking to polish the front place your finger on the back side of the strip and use it simply as your would any type of sanding. I sweep left to right while dipping in a "U" shape slightly to avoid creating deep divots in the front on my teeth. You run much less risk with these than you do the metal strips because they are less abrasive. Hope that helps. |

Abrasive Stainless Steel Strips Finishing polishing 4mm Fine 5pcs
User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use these strips to remove stains |
Answer: | The abrasive is applied only on one side of the strip. You can use the entire abrasive surface of the strip as a whole. |
Question: | I just received my fine strips. i'd just like to confirm where the "grit" is on them - do you use the center portion to file, or everything but that |
Answer: | Fold a piece of aluminum foil and try fit it between said teeth. I would say that these strips are even thicker than that, and much more rigid, so if the foil doesn't fit then these strips won't either. I threw them away and went back to my dentist, and they did a little more drilling to get rid of the extra filling material. |
Question: | I need to get rid of some leftover cement in between my teeth. Some of the reviews said they won't fit between the teeth, is this true |
Answer: | You can use them for polishing and finishing a crown. |
Question: | Can these be used to file a crown |
Answer: | This abrasive is made of resin, it can use both sides. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Two teeth close together causing floss to tear, would this help create more space |
Answer: | Yes, there just one abrasive side |
Question: | Is there just one abrasive side |
Answer: | Hi, excellent question. So it worked great for me on wanting to file down in order to reshape each of the sides between my front teeth. So you might want to give it a try. If you see it's not filing off the plaque or tiny bits of tartar, Then I'd suggest scraping it of with those hook dentist instruments that you can also find here or at Walmart. They say flossing is the best way to get rid of plaque and tartar (therefore I think these abrasive strips will work for you). Also use toothpastes especially designed for plaque and tartar control. Wish you the best! |
Question: | Would these work for tarter buildup between front bottom teeth? It’s driving me crazy. Tiny bits of tarter |
Answer: | Yes, that's what I used them for. |
Question: | Would this help shave down a chipped jagged veneer |
Answer: | Hello. The main purpose of these strips is polishing and grinding the lateral surfaces of the teeth. All the rest is up to you. But I know that several buyers are used this strips to take off sharp points from teeth. And they are happy with the result. Although, perhaps you'd better take strips with a coarser abrasive. |
