Answer:	Hi there. Giving you advice from a nuclear chemistry student side of things, I would not advise this product. It does not even perform its job when measuring a radioactive mineral on contact not to mention liquid. To give you a idea, I have a sample of Uranium that measures 1658. cpm on a calibrated CDV700. This product was measuring 98 cpm . Way off. I tried several other tests and it seems just as bad. So NO , I would not waste your money or time. However, I would recommend to you to search on Amazon for the GQ300 that you can get i think about $99. Its awesome. You can even download your readings to your PC. I've had no trouble with mine and it as accurate as my CDV700. I don't think you would be disappointed. Also, just add a side note, and I haven t done this, on the makers website, you can go to the forum and several users tell how to up grade the tube so it can detect Alpha as well as Beta and Gamma. Answer:	I have an android phone so I am unfamiliar with the iPhone8. It requires an audio earphone jack. An adapter like the Amazon (Apple MFi Certified) Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter, Headphone Jack Adapter for iPhone, Audio Splitter Accessories Music Aux Adapter for iPhone 11/ Xs Max/XR X/8/8 Plus/7/7 Plus/ipad/iPod by Gedun. But the bottom line is I don't know.

Answer:	I do not know, but I can guess. The component just supplies a series of pulses as input. The application which you download turns the pulses into a measurement. Unless the iPod can run arbitrary iPhone aps the answer is no. It will work with the iPhone. Also note that it only works with photons, so only x-ray and gamma.
Question:	Will this check for radiation in radioactive ores? I'm talking about uranium, tritium, thorium, all the works
Answer:	It is essentially useless for anything that requires a "snapshot" type reading. It measures general exposure levels over an extended period, an hour for example. I think it is intended for personal use to get a rough Idea of how much exposure one gets in a given time period. I tried to use it in X-ray repair, just to check if the x-ray machine was firing at all, and it was useless for that. It cannot measure a burst or count pulses. It may be just the way the app is designed. But I don`t think it will work for you , based on my experience.

Answer:	Based on information found on-line (different sources) the Pro is more sensitive and one of the reasons is because the area of this device is bigger than the non-Pro, in consequence it has better capacity to detect radiation. I have tried this device and I am satisfied with the results, I even tried putting my cellphone carefully inside a ziplock bag in order to make a water test inside a bucket. you do not need to put the whole cellphone under water, just the half connected the device, keeping the zip area not exposed to the water in order to avoid an accident. It works!!!

Question:	Will this measure the radiation level present in gemstones
Answer:	Not all gemstones emit high enough levels of radiation that can be discerned above ambient levels of radiation and it depends on the actual level of radiation the stone emits. Stones that have been exposed to radiation to change their color will probably not register. I have some uranium marbles that are not detected by this counter. My wife was subjected to a PET scan, last year and read 790 CPM from a distance of 6 feet.
Question:	can I use this to measure Fukushima radiation in seafood
Answer:	I've read articles regarding radiation in seafood indicating the levels you read may be may be misleading. The GMC-300 will measure this radiation. Here in Northern Indiana the ambient level is normally 30 - 40 CPM. Question:	I'm a novice wanting to check for radiation levels. Is this device easy to understand? What can I use this for to measure for radiation
Answer:	The GMC-300 is easy to use and low priced as an entry level radiation detector. I use mine to monitor background levels of radiation as I have yet to find an highly active source. Here in central BC, Canada I get 14 to 22 cpm, with a high of 30 cpm. It appears to decrease after a rain fall. The only thing missing with the GMC-300 is a radiation standard but I can understand why.
Question:	Would this device be able to tell if there was leftover radiation from a nuclear blast or contamination? Or radiation from dirty bombs
Answer:	I’m a radiation protection technician. If this device works the way that it says it does then it would still not detect alpha or neutron radiation. If you suspect something making into your food or water then I would be most concerned with Alpha particles and this doesn’t measure those. You shouldn’t have to worry about neutron radiation though and unless you’re using it to measure something you’re ingesting then alpha radiation really isn’t an issue. Geiger- Mueller counter can detect beta and gamma/X-ray radiation. I’d be interested to see how they measure Beta since you really need a gas chamber to measure it accurately. I would be most worried about beta and gamma radiation if you’re talking about an area that may have had nuclear weapons detonates years ago. This claims it can measure for those. If it can it would be a good device to determine if your surroundings are still giving off radiation.

Question:	Is this something i can use in a supermarket to check food for radiation? i don't trust things coming from the pacific ocean because of fukushima
Answer:	Testing food in general is one of the most common questions we receive and also happens to be one of the most difficult ones to answer. In short: - Can food be tested with a hand-held Geiger Counter? Yes. - Will it detect elevated levels of radioactive materials, if present? Yes. - Is it absolutely safe to eat your fish after you scanned it and the result was negative? No, not necessarily. This is not a sensitivity issue, but is simply because radiation emitted from a tiny contaminant will be masked by the natural background radiation that's all around us. Technically speaking, everything is radioactive, even we are. So it would be like looking for a specific water drop in a pond. If the natural background radiation around you is .10 uSv/h and contaminant in the fish emits .02 uSv/h, then geiger counter will naturally continue showing .10, because that's how many radiation particles it is detecting in your immediate vicinity. This means that no matter how sensitive, expensive or calibrated your equipment is, the only way to be absolutely sure that food is safe would be to test it in a lab, where a piece of produce is placed inside a special lead capsule that isolates it completely from any background radiation. There is a lengthy scientific procedure of setting up such tests. Many manufacturers will claim that their detectors will works just as well, but as you can clearly tell, that is a marketing scheme. The only sure way of accurately testing food for radiation is in a lab. Period. Having said that, there are still ways to considerably improve you chances of detecting contamination. Here are some practical tips in getting the most out of your RADEX geiger counter. Whenever anything is measured for radiation, the mass / size of the object being scanned matters. Don't try to detect radiation in a single berry, a mushroom or a cup of water. Unless these are highly contaminated, there would be few particle streams emanating from a smaller volume hence the chances of detection are that much lower. Instead, try scanning an entire basket-full of produce, or a tank of water - the number of particle sources would be that much greater and easier to detect. If it's fish your are measuring, try to have as much of that tuna as possible. Turn the unit on and place it right next to the object (you can use a simple plastic bag to protect the unit - that won't effect sensitivity) for about 40 seconds. Then move a few inches to the side, and so on: continue displacing the detector by the distance of its width every minute or so, moving alongside of the object being scanned. So basically from head to tail. That would give you the highest chances of detection. However, please keep in mind, that even if after scanning it this way, there is still a chance that it may contain radioactive elements that are above the permissible levels for digestion. This is why we NEVER recommend to use Geiger counters for food testing unless in dire situations. We hope this clarifies matter a bit.

Answer:	Cylindrical low voltage SBM20-1 tube. Only does Beta and Gamma. Its does work well. A nuclear plant recently had a leak about 245 miles north of me, and it went bats as I was downwind and it showed elevated radiation at 6 times my normal background for 45 seconds so I know I caught a wisp of it. This is not professional lab equipment, but is good value for what I paid for it. The battery life is awesome too with LSD rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries. I run it 24/7. At this price, I do not really care about tube life.Just do not expect professional grade results from it, but it is good enough and a good value for the money.

Answer:	Yes, it does. It can store up to 160 readings. These readings can be every minute, every 3 minutes, 5, 15, 30, every hour and so on.Typically though, the Bluetooth version is linked to the Android app and transfers data in real time, without storing it.
Question:	as a non smart phone user...is this useable without a smart phone
Answer:	Yes, This unit works by itself as a radiation monitor. I don't know if the unit can collect reading data to itself because I cannot see reading log from the unit, however the smart phone with Bluetooth (and apps) can show/set the reading logs (data collection interval), location.
Question:	Will there be new software updates that use the bluetooth feature
Answer:	Possibly, we update software all the time. What additional features do you have in mind?
Question:	Can this be left on all the time? aka, can i plug it in to a usb device and leave it home? also, can the app send an email or text on detection
Answer:	It can be on all the time. The trick is to plug it into USB and remove the batteries. The device prefers batteries to other power source, hence even if it's plugged via USB, if it has batteries - it will drain them. No email or text yet, but that is an excellent suggestion.

Answer:	No, I think there is a different device for RF. This is sold as detecting radiation, I think gamma only. I've read it's more of an ion counter, but it's detecting ions from nuclear decay.

Answer:	It's "Smart Geiger", but do yourself a favor and forget this piece of junk. Cute idea, but the detector is apparently way too small to score many hits. It might work if you're willing to leave it on for an hour, so if that's your application, go for it. But if you want a real time Geiger counter, this is useless at best, and if you're using it for radiation safety, dangerous at worst. I recommend finding a used MedCom RadAlert 50, which uses an actual Geiger-Mueller tube to provide accurate CPM (counts per minute) and real time mR/hr readings. Or splurge and buy a new RadAlert 100. Or, if you're willing to calibrate it, you could buy one of the many surplus yellow CDV-700's; if you can get them to work, they're a great buy (but NOT the CDV-715's, which have scales that are only for World War III or Fukushima).
