Treacle Pudding

Apparently, Harry loves anything treacle. He’s always reaching for the treacle tart, and he seems to really like the treacle pudding Mrs. Weasley prepared for dessert the night before he left the Burrow for Hogwarts (see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 5).

Treacle is like molasses and is made during sugar refining. Black treacle is like dark molasses, and light treacle is also called golden syrup, which can be found in some supermarkets and specialty food stores. The light variety is so good that if you buy it you might find yourself sneaking spoonfuls every now and then.

1. Fill a large pot with water and place a shallow bowl upside down inside the pot. Bring the water to a boil. Butter and flour a 2½-quart round baking dish or glass bowl and its lid; set aside.

2. Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a mixing bowl and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar, and the ⅓ cup golden syrup or molasses, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed, until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing at medium speed until incorporated, about 30 seconds after each. Add the lemon zest and juice and beat until incorporated. Scrape down the sides and add the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing on the lowest speed just until incorporated and beginning and ending with the flour. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides and bottom and fold the mixture together.

3. Pour the ½ cup golden syrup or molasses into the bottom of the baking dish or glass bowl. Scrape the batter into the dish and smooth the top with the rubber spatula. Cover tightly with the lid and place it in the pot on top of the overturned bowl, making sure the water comes halfway up the sides. Cover the pot and simmer for 2½ hours. Check every so often to see if more water needs to be added (don’t let the pot boil dry).

4. Remove the pudding from the pot. Remove the lid and invert the pudding onto a serving dish. Serve with warmed golden syrup.

Question:	Can this cut 17" tabloid sheets
Answer:	I believe so. I have not needed a replacement part but I think I read on the specifications tab they were available. You do know you can rotate it 90 degrees for a new cutting surface.
Question:	Minimum cut size? I heard that this cutter would not measure all the way down to 1/8", which I need to be able to do my paper quilling. Is that true
Answer:	Not quite sure about the question, however, on my trimmer there is a small lever near where the long handle, which operates the blade, pivots; the small lever has to be pressed down; it is spring loaded so hold it down while pulling the long handle to operate the cutter blade. After the long handle has moved a bit you can stop holding the small lever down. Be sure that the paper is clamped tightly by operating the rotating handle at the end of the blade assembly opposite from the long handle pivot. After the cut, when the long handle is moved up to near vertical, the lock device will re-lock the blade in the up position. Hope this helps. Bob
Question:	Maximum cut size? One reviewer says this cutter will not cut a full 12" (they say it 'almost' cuts 10"). Is that true? I need 11 inch cuts. Thanks
Answer:	The paper clamp has a crank handle on the front that is used to raise and lower the presser. When the cutter arrives, this crank is installed backwards for shipping, so you have to take off the retaining bolt and turn it around, then put it back on before using the cutter. The directions do not mention this step so it is somewhat confusing when the cutter arrives. The paper clamp assembly itself does not move, only the presser bar that holds the paper in place for cutting. If you do not securely lower the presser bar before you cut, you will almost certainly end up with a crooked cut.

Answer:	The blade is 16 in long. It will cut the 12” direction not to 18” direction

Question:	Would this cutter be good for cutting 2 inch of cardboards
Answer:	I had used a Martin Yale folding machine before, but not a cutter, but I trusted the quality of the name. I paid $700 for my Martin Yale PRE7000E cutter, and it works as well as my HD Swingline (non-Guillotine) paper trimmer. The only difference is that with the Martin Yale, I can clamp down my paper, and I paid $350 more for it. It cuts about 20-25 20# sheets at a time (with a new blade) and accuracy is so-so. I was going to return it, but the freight back would have been $160. So I cut my losses and kept it. My next purchase I am leaning toward the QCM. Hope this helps.

Answer:	You can get replacement blades, but you can also get the old blades sharpened.

Answer:	Walmart add for the apparent same one (9115) says it's self sharpening and they are $20 higher plus shipping and tax.

Answer:	It will cut regular poster board, not just the real thin stuff. Use a quick, firm stroke. It also helps to pull the cutting blade slightly toward the wooden bed as you cut.

Answer:	I don't know the specific replacement blade. But, you should start by referencing the model number of the cutter.
Question:	I have a Swingline cutter model #1112. What replacement blades do I use
Answer:	Don't waste your money on this trimmer. Our storage is full of useless trimmer and they all fail until I finally found the prefect trimmer that last. Get the Dahle 552 Professional rolling trimmer, there is no need to change the blade because it will self sharpening and you don't need to change the cutting mat because there isn't one.
Question:	What blade do I need to purchase to replace the one that is in it
Answer:	It depends on the hardness of the paper quality. I tried about 1 1/2 of card stock (65lb paper) and cut like butter.
Question:	My office purchased this item almost a year ago the blade is not cutting through 1 piece of paper let alone 30, replaced blade and still no progress
Answer:	The 12" side will need to be cut first since the maximum cutting width is only 12". It'll take some elbow grease but you should be able to work through card stock with a sharp blade.

Answer:	Yes, 15 inches is the maximum width that will fit under the blade (well, maybe 15 & 1/8th inches).

Answer:	The clear paper guide the paper goes under should hold the paper in place.
Question:	is the blade replaceable
Answer:	The blade is held on with four phillips head screws. I have removed it to clean it and hone the edge a little bit. If they sell a replacement blade then yes it. However, I would recommend sharpening or honing several times before needing to replace it.
Question:	How many sheets can this cut at once
Answer:	I bought the device to cut 1 page at a time. In response to your inquiry, however, I attempted to cut 20 pages at once of 8.5"x11", copy machine/laser jet printer type white paper. The paper was positioned in the portrait mode and the device cut a off 1"x11" strips with some resistance. Nevertheless, it worked.

Answer:	I would not recommend it for that. You are better off with a box of packing paper from UHaul. The paper is heavier weight than packing paper and the roll is cumbersome.

Answer:	Recycled. FYI: The roll is very heavy, the kind they put on the rollers in grade school.
Question:	What is the inside diameter for a mounting rod
Answer:	Not sure. I had ordered this for table covering at a job I retired from last year. I would guess about the size of a half dollar.
Question:	Will this work as a topper in a heat press at 400 degrees when doing sublimation
Answer:	Per the manufacturer, they do not recommend this type of paper in a heat press. They are suggesting an ink jet roll of paper as a better option.
