| Answer: | There is a plastic tubular piece that should slide up and down to warn water is low (F). Lime / calcium build up and seize it or it doesn't get seated right on the switch. Im going on my third year with this unit. Beats Holmes / Sunbeam, etc. in its ability to cover my 2 bdrm apartment at 45% when its cold and dry outside. The others always end up leaking or making squeaking noises. |

| Answer: | Mine did the same thing when I received it. I called the factory in AR and they told me to turn the fan unit upside down and find a silver bar about 2" long. Spring the bar down a little so it will make contact with the water float directly beneath. Spring it ever so slightly and then a second or third time if necessary so as not to damage the switch. Once I did that the fan could be identified as F1, F2, F3, F4, or A. Be sure to plug and unplug the unit each time an adjustment is made so the machine can reset. |

| Answer: | Once in early November when I get the homie out. Replace it in January. I use both a bacteria stat and a liquid descaler which I squirt a little in when I refill the tank. Avoids smell and makes the filters work better. You can buy them premixed in liquid form. The better your wick works the less the humid will run and presumably it will last longer. I’m still using my old kenmore which I’ve had for several years. |

This is an evaporative humidifier where water evaporates off of a wick, not a spray atomizer that sprays water into the air along with the minerals in the water. All of the minerals will remain in the wick of the humidifier, requiring the wick to be replaced. The higher the calcium content in your water, the more frequently you will need to replace the wick. |

Sort of just a low fan sound - about the same as the heat kicking on and off. I don't notice it at all. However, all of the other speeds, in my opinion, are very loud. It goes up to 5 - and that sounds like a 747 idling. I guess if you had it in some remote location and wanted to crank it up, the higher speeds would work. I live in a 1200 sq ft townhome and, set at 45, it keep the upstairs (where it is) at about 45% and the downstairs at about 35%. Perfect for me. I'm really happy with it. No more shocking all the pets with static electricity! |

| Answer: | There should be 4 tabs on each lower housing (the housing that hold the filters), and there should also be 4 corresponding slots on each top filter housing. The lower housing should have two tabs sticking straight up in the front, and two tabs sticking horizontally out the back. The two tabs in the back are just flat tabs, and they are supposed to just slide into the two slots in the back of the top housing. The two front tabs on the lower housing are shaped such that they will "snap" into the two slots in the front of the top housing. The tabs on the back of the lower housing are used to align the top housing with the lower housing, and to help keep it in place. Check to see if the lower housings on your unit have the tabs in the back, and if the top housings have the slots for them. |

| Answer: | I don't mean to say the same thing over again, Patrick said the same thing I'm going to say, but a new pad is all you will need in this unit. I'm also a hvac technican and April air 600ms are our humidifier of choice. I've seen some people who have such bad water the pad gets clogged mid winter, and I've also seen people who have bad water and have been using the same pad for years. rule of thumb to get the most out of your unit is to change the pad every year. You could get away with longer but why would you when you can get replacement pads for cheap at home depot. To install you will need 2 6" 90's, 6" flex duct, 1" zip screws, 2 wire, 3/4 inch pvc with fittings and glue, small piece of 1/2" vinyl tubing (optional), and a pair of tin snips. I would suggest hiring a professional unless you're an avid do it yourself type of person, but it's defiantly something a average homeowner COULD do with enough time and YouTube videos. As far as the solenoid, it almost never goes bad, like Patrick said they usually last around 10 years. I've seen some go bad in as little as 2 but those are 1 in 100 and factory defected. I hope this helps someone down the line. |

| Answer: | We live in Southwest Colorado. Our house in the winter is about 23% humidity. When we use our wood burning stove to heat it drops even lower. I have put two of these units in our space which is about 1,600 SF. With both of them on high, we can raise the humidity up to 30% when the wood burning stove is off. With it on, the high 20's. However and it's a big however, on high the noise is loud and you would not want to be in the space, so we only keep it on high if we are out of the house or overnight outside the bedroom. We have one upstairs in the loft and it's okay to keep on medium when you are downstairs. When I am in the same room as the unit, then I prefer low, which does not do very much, but it's better then nothing. Low is quit enough to use in a room you are sleeping in if it's not close and I am a very light sleeper. In our basement which stays more humid and where we use a gas stove only to heat, it is doable to bring up the humidity to 45% if run on high/medium when not in the space. TIP! When sleeping in the same room as the unit, noise occurs when the unit releases air and water "drubs, drubs", into the base (especially in the beginning when the the furniture, carpets, etc. are absorbing the moisture. It make take a bit of time for that to occur and then you may see a spike up, so give it a week to see what happens. Also if you have the windows open, which I suggest you do for air quality at least a couple of hours a day then that will alter humidity as well) . This sound kept me up all night as it happened every 20 minutes or so. The SOLUTION is to fill the base almost to the top, but not quite, so that it does not spill when replacing the tank and then empty the rest of the water out of the tanks and replace. Then put on low and you will get humidity all night without the bubbles sound! This was passed on to me by a friend and it really works. Great unit! |

| Answer: | I"ve had one of these for 20+ years. Hard water where I live. So I began simply soaking my filters in hot water in my kitchen sink once per week. That does take some of the hardness from the water out of the filters. That trick allows me to use my filters almost a good 2 months. Once they become too 'hard', they just do not filter the water as they should. Soaking does help, vs buying filters monthly. |

Note:
Use distilled water or filtered water instead of tap water, use tap water might leave white dust and grow mold.
DO NOT put the humidifier on the wooden floor or wooden furniture directly unless a towel is placed on the wooden surface.

Aprilaire introduced the first evaporative humidifier for forced air furnace systems back in 1954. Since that time, Aprilaire continues to lead the industry in whole home humidification systems – including steam humidifiers. Aprilaire steam humidifiers use electrode technology and are simple to install, operate, and maintain. With electrode technology, electrical current flows between submerged electrodes, resistance of the water to the electric current heats the water. The submerged electrodes are found in a replaceable canister. At the end of a humidifier season, the canister – including the electrodes, is replaced. No cleaning, no scrubbing, simply replace the canister and you’re ready for the next humidifier season. Electrode technology requires impurities in the water to promote the transfer of electricity. For this reason, water filtration is not required with electrode technology, minimizing the complexity of the installation and on-going operating costs. This unit will operate with water hardness between 3 and 36 grains – a very wide range. If reverse osmosis or deionized water is present, plumb the steam humidifier to a water line before the water flows through the reverse osmosis or deionization equipment.
