14 best collated roofing nails

Collated roofing nails are specialized fasteners used in roofing applications to securely attach roofing materials, such as shingles or felt, to a variety of surfaces, including wood or plywood decking. The term "collated" refers to the nails being held together in a strip or coil, making them compatible with pneumatic nail guns or nailers. Here are some key features and considerations related to collated roofing nails:

  1. Collation: Collated roofing nails are connected in a linear arrangement, typically held together with adhesive, paper, or wire. This collation allows for efficient loading into nail guns, enabling faster and more convenient installation.

  2. Materials: These nails are commonly made from materials such as galvanized steel or stainless steel. Galvanized steel is often used to provide corrosion resistance, ensuring the longevity of the roofing structure.

  3. Length and Gauge: The length and gauge (thickness) of collated roofing nails can vary depending on the specific requirements of the roofing material and the underlying structure. Common lengths range from 1 to 3 inches.

  4. Coating: Collated roofing nails may be coated for additional protection against rust and corrosion. Common coatings include zinc, which provides a protective layer, and some nails may have additional coatings for enhanced durability.

  5. Head Type: Roofing nails typically have a large, flat head to provide sufficient holding power and prevent the nail from pulling through the roofing material. The head type can vary, with options like round heads or large, flat heads designed to lay flat on the roofing surface.

  6. Application: Collated roofing nails are specifically designed for roofing applications, including the installation of asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or roofing felt. They are suitable for use with a variety of roofing materials and substrates.

  7. Compatibility with Nail Guns: One of the primary advantages of collated roofing nails is their compatibility with pneumatic nail guns. This feature allows for rapid and consistent nail placement, increasing efficiency and reducing manual effort.

  8. Weather Resistance: Roofing nails are exposed to the elements, so resistance to weather conditions is crucial. The materials and coatings used in collated roofing nails help protect against rust and deterioration due to exposure to rain and sunlight.

  9. Building Codes: When using collated roofing nails, it's important to comply with local building codes and regulations. Building codes may specify the type, length, and gauge of nails suitable for different roofing materials and applications.

  10. Manufacturer Recommendations: Following the manufacturer's recommendations for the type and size of collated roofing nails is essential to ensure the structural integrity of the roofing system and to maintain warranty compliance.

When selecting collated roofing nails, it's advisable to consult with roofing professionals or follow the guidelines provided by the roofing material manufacturer. Proper installation using the right type and size of nails contributes to the overall performance and durability of the roofing system.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this nail for porter cable rn175b roofing nailer
Answer: The length of the CR3DGAL is 1-1/4" and the RN175B has a fastener range of 3/4" to 1-3/4" so it should work fine.
Question: Do people use 0 degree coil nails? My roofer told me he doesn't use the 15 degree nails. Maybe I misheard him
Answer: Most roofers use 15 degree coil nails. You didn't say why he said "he uses 0 degree coil nails". For asphalt shingles I only use 15 degree. For shaker type roofs I use either 15 or 0 degree with plastic inserts to keep splinters from flying back at me.
Question: Will the nails fit dewalt roofing nailer dwfp
Answer: Yes, the DWFP12658 uses nails in lengths of: 3/4" (19 mm) - 1-3/4" (44.5 mm).
Question: how many boxes would I need to redo my garage roof, about 25 squares of shingles
Answer: Most shingles come 3 bundles per square and 29 shingles per bundle with each shingle requiring at least 4 nails. So the math would say 3x25squares=75 bundles x 29 shingles=2175 shingles x 4 nails=8700 nails which I would increase by 20% for a total of 10,440 nails. Since a case contains 7200 nails, you will need two cases to complete the job and will have about a half of a case left over.

User questions & answers

Question: are these collated nails
Answer: Yes but they are for roofing, you need to use 11/2 nails for a fence.
Question: Would these nails work on Cedar Fencing
Answer: Made in China I used them for my storage building roof.
Question: where are these made
Answer: 1080. 9 coils containing 120 nails each.
Question: How many nail in box
Answer: It is going to be right at the 1" mark, so you will have over penetration. If you are going to insulate the roof itself rather than the ceiling, you should be OK. Also, if you really want great material to cover the sheathing before putting on the roofing material, use Titanium wrap rather than tyvek or black paper. It is so much better in so many ways, particularly because it really makes a great barrier and is not so slick that you can't stand on it. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: The description doesn't give the gauge or width of the nail. 11 gauge? 0.12" ? What
Answer: .118 thousands. 11.5GA
Question: Are these nails compatible with Bostich roofing nailers
Answer: China!
Question: What is the gauge or width of the nail
Answer: Not wanting to supply you with incorrect information, I checked both the Owners Manual and the tool itself for your requested information... Without any success! That said, I would guess that “your estimated angle of 15 degrees is accurate... I would, in the absence of any concrete information, say 15 to 20 degrees. More importantly, I found this nailer to be “capable” and “dependable”... it’s reviews reflect this... I was not disappointed!

3/4" SMOOTH GALVANIZED COIL ROOFING NAILS to Bostitch CR19GAL & Senco M003101

Make sure your tool model will accommodate 3/4" length.

For the best results we recommend using MAX CN450R, CN445R, CN445R2, CN445R3

PLEASE NOTE: Because of their extremely short length 3/4" coil roofing nails may tumble in the chamber when fired causing the nail to come out sideways. This cannot be prevented even with coil roofing nailers that claim to accept 3/4" length. Please be aware that 3/4" coil roofing nails may not fire accurately 100% of the time. If this is a concern please use 7/8" length.

Our Coil Roofing Nails are manufactured according to the roofing industry specifications. These nails are 3/4" length 15 degree wire collated with a head diameter of .375" (3/8" diam) Made of .120" (11 gauge) SMOOTH shank Electro Galvanized steel. Electro Galvanized steel provides a very thin layer of coating with a measure of protection against the elements. Over time these nails may corrode. Commonly used in composition asphalt shingles applications. Not recommended for ACQ Treated Lumber. Each Box contains approximately 3,600 nails.

Applications Include:

Asphalt and fiberglass shingles for both new roofs and reroofing. Also for attaching waterproof tar paper, roofing felt, metal drip edges, insulation board, cementitious fiber board products and vinyl siding.

  • Please Verify Nailer Compatibility Before Ordering
  • Fits only models accepting 3/4" length
  • Electro Galvanized

User questions & answers

Question: Will these work in a Bostitch NR46 nail gun
Answer: They don't feed well. I believe it's due to them being short. The grip rite 1 1/4 inch feed great.

User questions & answers

Question: Are these Fasteners usable by a Bostitch brand coil roofing on
Answer: Thanks for inquiring. Zinc is used to Galvanize nails. The term "Hot Dip" describes the process by which the zinc coating is applied. There are different methods of applying zinc in the Galvanizing process. For example one process is using Electricity to electrify the fastener causing a zinc coating to be deposited onto the surface; this method is known as Electro Galvanized. Another process is when fasteners are placed in a large rotary barrel along with zinc powder, special promoters, and glass impact media causing a zinc coating to be mechanically deposited onto the surface; this method is known as Mechanically Galvanized. So the answer to "are these hot dip galvanized or are they zinc coated" is yes to both. These nails are galvanized by dipping them into Hot Zinc which is known as Hot Dip Galvanized. Hope this explanation helps.
