14 best brad nails
Brad nails are small, thin, and straight nails that are used primarily in carpentry and woodworking applications. They are a type of fastener designed for precision and finishing work, often referred to as "finish nails." Here's what you need to know about brad nails:
Size and Shape: Brad nails are typically very slender and have a small, rounded head. They are much thinner than traditional nails, which allows them to create a minimal and inconspicuous hole when driven into the material.
Length: Brad nails come in various lengths, typically ranging from 3/8 inch (10mm) to 2 inches (50mm) or longer. The length chosen depends on the thickness of the material being fastened.
Materials: Brad nails are commonly made from steel, stainless steel, or other metals. The choice of material can be important when considering factors such as corrosion resistance or compatibility with specific woodworking projects.
Collated Nails: Brad nails are often available in collated strips or coils, which are designed for use with pneumatic nail guns. These collated nails allow for faster and more efficient nailing, as they can be fed rapidly through nail guns.
Applications: Brad nails are primarily used for finishing work in woodworking, cabinetry, and trim carpentry. They are ideal for attaching delicate trim, molding, and other pieces of wood where a larger nail might leave a noticeable hole or split the material.
Finishing Touches: The small, rounded head of brad nails allows for a clean and virtually invisible finish. This is important when you want your woodworking projects to look professional and free of blemishes.
Nail Guns: Brad nailers or finish nailers are commonly used with brad nails. These pneumatic tools use compressed air to drive brad nails into the material with precision and minimal effort.
Versatility: Brad nails can also be used for other tasks, such as assembling small wooden boxes, securing picture frames, or attaching thin pieces of wood.
Precautions: When using brad nails, it's important to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines. Safety glasses and hearing protection are often recommended when operating nail guns, and users should be aware of the potential for nails to penetrate through the material and into underlying surfaces.
In summary, brad nails are small, thin nails designed for precision and finishing work in woodworking and carpentry. They are commonly used with pneumatic nail guns, allowing for efficient and inconspicuous fastening of trim, molding, and other delicate materials. Brad nails play a vital role in achieving a professional and polished look in woodworking projects.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these a smooth finish or do they have rings to keep them from backing out |
Answer: | It depends on what you mean by durability. The actual tensile strength will be very slightly less, but that is splitting hairs and is seldom a factor. The corrosion-resistance will be less, but that is not an issue unless you are going into a wet environment. The big advantage to a coated nail is that they tend to grip better as the coating acts as a glue. Stainless and galvanized without a coating both would have less significantly less grip, and as the grade of stainless goes up (like from 304 to 316) the grip would decrease a lot. |
Question: | What durability do these coated brad nails have over SS brad nails |
Answer: | No |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these fit the bostitch btfp |
Answer: | No, this cannot be used with the 20 degree finish nailer. There are special brads for the angled guns - for instance: DEWALT DCA16200 2-Inch by 16 Gauge 20-Degree Finish Nail (2,500 per Box). Search under that item, and you'll be able to see the other sizes offered for your angled gun. They are good brad, either way, but you want the ones configured at 20 degrees to fit your gun, while mine is a straight configuration. Go for the angled kind, not the straight ones. |
Question: | Can this be used with 20 degree desalt finish nailer |
Answer: | 16ga is bigger |
Question: | ga & 18ga which is bigger |
Answer: | Yes, as long as the length is within the specifications of the tool. |
Question: | Would this work on a porter and cable 18 gauge brad nailer |
Answer: | Dont know...I only bought a box... |
