12 best anchor bolts

Anchor bolts are a type of fastener used in various construction and industrial applications to secure objects to concrete, masonry, or other hard surfaces. These bolts are crucial for ensuring the stability and safety of structures, equipment, and fixtures.

Key features and aspects of anchor bolts include:

  1. Types:

    • Expansion Bolts: These bolts consist of a threaded rod or bolt that is inserted into a pre-drilled hole in a substrate. As the nut is tightened, the anchor expands, creating a secure grip within the hole.
    • Wedge Anchors: Wedge anchors use a wedge-shaped expansion piece to secure themselves into the substrate. As the nut is tightened, the wedge expands, providing a strong hold.
    • Sleeve Anchors: Sleeve anchors consist of a threaded rod and a cylindrical sleeve. When tightened, the sleeve expands, gripping the hole's walls.
    • Drop-In Anchors: These anchors are set into a pre-drilled hole, and a threaded bolt is inserted into them. As the bolt is tightened, it pulls the anchor up, creating a secure connection.
  2. Hollow Wall Anchors:

    • Hollow wall anchors are a specific type of anchor used for lightweight applications in hollow materials like drywall. They work by expanding behind the wall when the screw is driven in, creating a firm hold.
  3. Materials:

    • Anchor bolts can be made from various materials, including steel, stainless steel, and even plastic, depending on the application and environmental conditions.
  4. Applications:

    • Anchor bolts are used in construction to secure structural elements like columns, beams, and walls to concrete foundations.
    • They are also utilized to attach equipment and machinery to concrete floors or walls in industrial settings.
    • In residential settings, anchor bolts can be used for fastening items such as shelves, cabinets, and heavy artwork to walls.
  5. Load Capacity:

    • The load-bearing capacity of anchor bolts depends on factors like the size of the anchor, the material of the substrate, and the installation method. Engineers and construction professionals calculate and select anchor bolts based on the expected loads.
  6. Installation:

    • Proper installation is crucial for the effectiveness and safety of anchor bolts. This typically involves drilling a hole of the appropriate size and depth, inserting the anchor, and tightening it to the recommended torque.
  7. Safety:

    • Ensuring that anchor bolts are correctly installed and used in accordance with engineering guidelines is essential for preventing accidents and maintaining structural integrity.

In summary, anchor bolts are versatile fasteners used to secure objects to various surfaces, including concrete, masonry, and hollow walls. They come in different types and materials, each suitable for specific applications, and their load-bearing capacity is determined by several factors. Proper installation and adherence to safety guidelines are essential when working with anchor bolts.

TOGGLER SNAPTOGGLE Drywall Anchor with Included Bolts for 1/4-20 Fastener Size; Holds 80 pounds Each in 1/2-in Drywall by TOGGLER (12 Pack)

TOGGLER

Based on 2 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Mount anything!

The TOGGLER SNAPTOGGLE BB toggle anchor provides a secure hold from within various hollow materials 3/8 to 3-5/8 thick including gypsum board, drywall, and concrete block, includes 1/4-20 UNC bolts, and is made in USA. The anchor channel will not rotate when installing the bolt, whether installing by hand or with a screw gun, and will stay in place if the bolt is removed to facilitate fixture and screw changes. If using bolts other than those supplied, the anchor accepts 1/4-20 UNC metal bolts with a minimum length equal to the thickness of the item being fastened and the thickness of the mounting material plus 1/2. The SNAPTOGGLE anchor meets Federal Specification FF-B-588-D for Type V anchors.

The anchor consists of a corrosion-resistant zinc-plated steel anchor channel that inserts through a 1/2 drilled hole in walls, ceilings, or floors and installs against the back side of the mounting material; plastic straps attached to the channel that position it into place; and a plastic cap that slides down the straps and presses into the drilled hole firmly to lock the anchor channel in place behind the mounting material. Once the cap is set in place, the straps snap off by hand. The item being fastened affixes to the mounting material by inserting one of the included bolts through the item, into the drilled hole, and through the anchoring channel behind the material and tightening.

  • Toggle anchor installs behind 3/8- to 2-1/2-thick hollow materials including gypsum board,
  • Anchor affixes to the wall before adding the bolt and fixture, allowing one-person installation and
  • Made in USA, and includes 1/4-20 UNC-threaded bolts
  • Ultimate tensile strength is 265 lb. in 1/2 drywall and 1,080 lb. in concrete block with a 1/4-20
  • Use one-fourth or less of listed maximum values for safe working loads

User questions & answers

Question: Anyone know the size (width of the screw head)? Trying to mount a TV and want to make they can cover the gap (and wont just fall through the hole
Answer: NO!!! Please DO NOT DO THAT! NO full motion TV should be attached to a drywall with anchors only. The drywall might fail, not likely the anchors. You MUST install a full motion wall mount to wood studs or concrete. Contact AV-Express for further assistance 877-302-8397 [email protected]
Question: will these work to mount a 65" tv using a full motion mount
Answer: Dude you should really not be doing any housework. The weight is accelerated because of the LEVERAGE since the weight is far from the wall. Here's what's going to happen--someone will lead onto the vanity and rip the entire drywall down. Stop doing any repairs to your house. Find where the studs are (they are typically spaced 16 inches apart), then use 3 inch wood screws to attach it. Attaching a vanity which by itself weighs 165lbs and leaning on it WILL 100 PERCENT DESTROY YOUR WALL. Free advice. You're welcome.
Question: Will these work to secure a floating vanity and sink (total weight of both 165 lbs) to drywall? I will be using 6 of these
Answer: If you are putting up wood and using this to anchor it, you want to predrill the hole in the wood at 1/4" then in the sheetrock 1/2" is too small I had to go up one size larger to snugly slide the anchor through. Otherwise FANTASTIC anchor! (Careful when using around insulation)
Question: what size bit do I pre-drill the hole with
Answer: I would not recommend that. I don't believe that would be strong enough to deal with someone's weight pulling on it. Drywall won't support it.

Ribbed Plastic Drywall Anchor Kit with Screws and Masonry Drill Bit, 10-12 x 1"

Qualihome

Based on 724 reviews Check latest price

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work going through wood and then through brick
Answer: 1/4" masonry bit. Note: I have used these in brick to hold a flag on my house. Granted, it was a pretty big flag but the whole thing was ripped from the wall twice during rather high winds. Just put the holder back up but swabbed the ribs with epoxy before tapping them into the brick. Hopefully this will do the trick. Despite that, you can't beat the price on these and are worth having.
Question: What size is drill bit
Answer: Depends on how you install them. I use them to install headboard units in hotels. I use 4 anchors in each of 2 brackets. The combined weight of the headboards is 135lbs.
Question: How many pounds can this anchor hold
Answer: General duty
Question: is heavy dutty
Answer: 25.

User questions & answers

Question: I need to hang a 25 pound clock. Would these largest of these work on drywall
Answer: Yes, if you drill a hole all the way through, but if there are wooden slats behind the plaster there might not be room to get the toggle in!
Question: Can these be used on a plaster wall
Answer: I have used 2 ways that will work. You can either enlarge the hole around the anchor and using pliers pull on the screw until the anchor comes out of the wall or using a hammer, push the whole thing inside the wall then patch the hole. I hope this helps.
Question: So how would you get anchors out of the wall or ceiling if you don't need this anymore
Answer: China
Question: Where are these made
Answer: HILTI just buy from them and put them in a red HILTI box (and increase the price of course); you can read on top of the HILTI box "TOGGLER(r) = Worldwide Registered Trade Mark of Mechanical Plastics Corp"

User questions & answers

Question: Would these work to bolt down a gun safe
Answer: Yes, but the issue is whether the safe is heavy enough to deter someone from prying it open or picking it up with a jack, etc. (3/8" or thicker steel.) Even these anchors, which are fine for most things cannot resist a jack and a lever.
Question: Once these are installed, to hold a pool railing, it is advisable to remove the nut to remove the railing for the winter
Answer: Yes, I remove the screws and railing for the winter closing. Otherwise the cover would not lay flat on the deck and be able to be held down securely.
Question: Will this work if I drill a 1/2 inch hole in concrete
Answer: 3/8" hole is the recommended size
Question: Would these work to bolt down a swimming pool handrail, on the concrete deck

Question: can the screww be removed prior to installation in order to add a washer
Answer: Yes. You would remove the screw from the toggle and insert it into the object you're trying to hang anyways.
Question: How much weight do these support
Answer: Don't know that anyone can answer this question accurately then the company. These are solid supports, so I would think that the dry wall would give way before the support does, if it was used to support an extremely heavy object.
Question: Hi, how do I take these bolts out of the wall
Answer: Once its installed, you cannot get it out. You can take the screw out, but not the toggle, unless you break the wall.
Question: what size hole do you drill
Answer: For 3/16” size you need to drill a 5/8” hole. 1/2” is too small and the wings will not pass through it.

User questions & answers

Question: hi, where are these made in? thanks
Answer: These are metal
Question: Is this the right size to grip 3/8" hollow drywall
Answer: These are about 2” long. I think you need a shorter one
Question: Confuse with your M numbers. Need Molly bolt to grip 3/8" hollow drywall
Answer: It will grip and not let go...so be careful where you putt'em...haha but yes they'll work fine!
Question: Do not care the bolt in mm sizes and confuse with your M numbers. Just need Molly bolt to grip 3/8" hollow drywall
Answer: I wouldn't buy this for 3/8" drywall - it will "float". The distance from the flat part that butts up against the outside of the wall to the part that flares out and presses against the inside of the wall is almost 1 inch long, so the bolt will freely slide in and out about 5/8" or so.
