Answer:	I believe these are compressed cotton. They are not soft as a feather, but they are not abrasive at all. I use fine polishing compound to make them slightly abrasive, for my projects. If you are concerned, use one on a rough piece of metal, this will fluff the surface, making them even softer.

Question:	What color is what grit? My kit came with no instructions and I cant tell. The pink feels pretty course but what about the rest
Answer:	I uee them for rough gemstones, yes pink is coarse, guess 120 grit, it grinds, the sesame is pretty coarse it grinds but idkif it'd bebetter for metal?? The cowhide , brown is good flexible, guess 600 grit, polisher for stone and wood metal, the green 'jade' is a nice (2000 grit?) 2nd to last polisher for some stones, white wool plus cerum oxide for final polish, for stone I use the pink, jade, cowhide, white wool..not sure wt$ the sesame works on maybe copper?

Question:	I have to cut galvanized metal sheets for a backsplash. Would this tool stand up to that
Answer:	This tool is a piece of garbage. I should know I am on my second one in one year. The second one I had to take since I could not return it for my money back, ONLY the same piece of garbage. So it was either keep a new slightly used Dremel that was a nice paper weight and nothing else or get another Dremel and HOPE it at least ran a little. The first one would run for 2 to 5 minutes and then not start again for a few minutes or until a day later. Shake it, blow on it, vacuum it, shoot Endust PC Air Cleaner at it, nothing. All of a sudden, the next day, it runs...4 minutes...off again. Finally shut down all together, hence returned it...had to figure a way or I would be stuck with $100 regret. I have had Dremels for years. After the orange bodied ones (I have talked to several people who have had issues and we all agree about the orange bodied Dremels were the last reliable Dremels), they must have had a change in Quality or Management, because their digital one was garbage and now this one...BUT, the orange one I gave my wife for the dog's nails has been kicking for years, haven't the heart to take it back. Just so Dremel can't say I am overheating them. I was cutting a plastic hanger (clothes hanger) to use the pieces for a project. One hanger and done - wouldn't start - only used it for similar light tasks, never chanced anything heavier. NOW the new 4000 runs, but if you use it for 2 minutes or more, the body gets so hot you have to protect your hand with gloves or let it sit for an hour to cool down. This time I was cutting a piece of high density foam and made sure none of the dust would come back to the machine, by using a vacuum cleaner. Still it was hot as heck!!! WORST OF ALL Dremel CENSORS Negative Reviews on their website. I tried to post the truth, since it is what I would want to know, it still isn't posted. They allow a negative review IF it stays semi positive (with 4 to 5 stars...maybe 3. Feel free to go and see for yourself) OR it would look like they censor. So that to me, is a huge strike against them! NOW all of their reviews are suspect! I can't even believe that any of their reviews are true! If they refuse to post one negative review, they may be tampering with all of them. Like a lying friend, one time, now everything is suspect. So I would look at buying another brand, I hear Harbor Freight has some good ones, or buy an older used Dremel, orange body! The Old USED ones I GUARANTEE are more reliable than these brand new garbage ones. Let me add...I noticed they are getting into the 3D Printer market. AND THAT, my friends, is the caveat...they decided to spread their wings to make more profit while they let their quality control hit bottom!!! DREMEL's NEW MANAGEMENT is clearly focused on PROFITS and they are NOT CONCERNED with making QUALITY PRODUCTS!!!!

Answer:	The "4" means that there are 4 attachments that go on the tool. The "32" or "30" means that the kit comes with either 32 or 30 attachments or pieces that can be used with the tool, e.g., bits, sanding discs, etc.

Answer:	Doesn't run at 220 and injury can occur if tried, but 220v is not wasting power and is more efficient than 120. Any device will pull the power it needs based on power = voltage x current. So if you double the voltage you drop the current by 50%. The higher your current the larger the voltage drops along the wires due to wire resistance, Voltage Drop = current x resistance. As voltage drops the motor still tries to pull the same power and does so by drawing more current, which causes another voltage drop and thus more current and you get the picture? Current also creates heat which is the enemy of all electrical items. Answer:	No, Dremel 421 polishing compound will not polish glass.

Answer:	Thank you for asking your question. Our polishing compound is 400 grit and not something you would use for a finishing compound. We would recommend you get a jewelers rouge with a higher grit to do the final polish on agate.
Question:	Can you polish Stones with this, like Lapis, Tigers eye, etc
Answer:	It would depend on how smooth the surface is to start with. Lapis and Tigers eye are fairly soft semi-precious gems and as such should polish when freshly cut. It will not polish a rough surface and I would recommend using wet and dry sand paper in successively finer grits up to 1500 or 2000 grit, used wet, then use the Dremel Polishing compound. Good luck with your project.
Question:	Can I use this for a feeding ramp on a 1911 45 acp
Answer:	Technically, you cannot polish a metal surface w/o removing metal. As a machinist, the amount of metal you remove may not need to be more than .00001", (one ten millionth of an inch). However, that's to be very 'technically literal'. Gauge blocks or pin-gauges, in mold & tool making instances would be very concerned about .00001". Still, my point is that, in metal materials, one must remove a certain amount of that metallic surface in order for it to be polished. The ramp of a 1911 would likely polish up easily providing the gun maker didn't leave tool marks deeper than .0001" (one, one ten thousandth of an inch). The American measurement system in machine shop and manufacturing in general, has always made it hard to explain to someone who would typically note "one tenth of an inch" like this: 0.100. In fact, in a machine shop, if you said something like "face-off one tenth", the machinist would remove only this much material: 0.0001, which is extremely small. An average human hair is about .005". One tenth of a human hair is .0005". Therefore, "one ten thousandth of one inch is .0001", which is 5 times smaller than .0005" and about 1/50th of a human hair... I guess this is why they're trying to convert to the metric system. I retired almost 20 years ago and even then, there was a lot of resistance to converting to the metric system because the measure tools, cutting tools, blueprints, and the general machining references would all have to change. Just the machinist's standard set of measuring tools that each experienced machinist of 5 to 6 years or more, owned, would have cost well over $500 in 1980, and over $1100 in 1987. Very few of the tools purchased before 1985 included a metric scale and many still don't. I owned an advanced set of hand tools purchased over a 25+ year time span. In 1992, I was contracted to a small tool-making machine shop, which was broken into and all the tools were robbed. The company's insurance would only pay 80% of each man's replacement tool costs. I received a $4200 check and I was not very happy about it... So you can see why many American machinist don't want to switch to the metric system. It could potentially be very expensive and that's just one aspect of at least five conversion points, which the complete conversion could cost. FWIW

Polishing Compound (421): Use with felt or cloth accessories to polish metals and plastics. Compound will remove a dull oxidized film and/or light surface imperfections. A solid compound.

Emery Impregnated Polishing Wheel (425): Ideal for general polishing of most ferrous metal, stone, glass and ceramic. Use with mandrel 402.

Rubber Polishing Points (461, 462, 463): Blue points for finishing and polishing all ferrous metals. Removes small burrs and scratch marks left by grinding and sanding and cleans and defines grooves. Also effective on many stones and ceramics.

Polishing Wheel (520): Use for light stock removal and high luster polishing of metal and hard plastics. The wheel is impregnated with a silicon carbide abrasive and lubricant, eliminating the need for polishing compound. If, after use, the wheel becomes glazed over, renew it by gently running it against the 415 dressing stone, or a piece of sandpaper. You can also use the dressing stone to reshape the wheel. Oscillate the tool back and forth until the desired finish is obtained.

Polishing Brushes

Abrasive Brush (538): Dremel's strongest and longest lasting brush. Extra-thick nylon bristles are coated with an abrasive grit for material removal on the toughest jobs. Use for deburring metal or wood and for removing rust and paint. Do not run brush in excess of 20,000 RPMs.

Bristle Brushes (403, 404, 405): Use for light deburring, cleaning, polishing of silverware, jewelry and other precious metals; can be used with polishing compound (#421).

Carbon Steel Brushes (428, 442, 443): Versatile brush for removing rust and corrosion, polish metal surfaces. Deburr and blend surface junctures, clean electrical components.

Stainless Steel Brushes (530, 531, 532): Stainless steel brushes do not cause "after-rust" when used on corrosive-resistant materials like pewter, aluminum and stainless steel.

Brass Brushes (535, 536, 537) Brass brushes are non-sparking and softer than steel. They will not scratch soft metals like gold, copper, or brass.

Brushing Pressure

Remember, the tips of a wire brush do the work. Operate the brush with the lightest pressure so only the tips of the wire come in contact with the work.

If heavier pressures are used the wires will be over stressed, resulting in a wiping action. If this is continued, the life of the brush will be shortened due to wire fatigue.

Answer:	Re: David Smith`s comment; I have done just that very thing. Cut the proper width and length. The clamp end of the mechanism does a good job in holding the sheet in place. I have found that I can actually cut the good sections from used sandpaper.

Answer:	I seem to recall that mine came with some sand paper made for it. It is pretty easy to cut down a sheet to fit if you already have 8-1/2 by 11 standard sand paper to fit it. The sand paper wraps around the contour shape and then clamps into the part that is attached to the Multi-Max.

Question:	Want to polish antique furniture brass bale handles, Have white and dark red rouge, what buffer wheel would you recommend
Answer:	All of them will work. They are only a media to hold the polishing compound your are using. I have used all of them for different polishing situations, from flat surfaces to complicated. I will however point out, when polishing anything, you will produce heat (friction) which can melt polymer/plastic. Just test pieces to find the right grit compound, the pressure you apply and the speed on your Dremal.
Question:	Can these be used with jewelers rouge
Answer:	I bought these to polish the hard to reach chrome areas (bolt heads, rear suspension springs, fork, handlebar, etc.) and aluminum rocker boxes on my Harley. They hold up very well in my opinion, especially if your rotary tool is variable speed. The white and yellow cotton wheels do sling some threads but they didn't shread apart, so I used an air compressor to blow the stray strings and lint out. The biggest thing for me was I couldn't even tell the rocker boxes had been polished (at no fault to the listed product because they worked excellent on chrome), I think I just don't like aluminum or maybe the polish just didn't do anything. To your point, these are worth the buy in my opinion.
