Clean, prepare, & mask.

FIBERGLASS

• Remove surface contaminants. Wipe with a clean rag wetted with TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep.
• Abrade lightly with a Scotch-Brite pad.
• Wipe with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100.
• Mask areas adjacent to application site.
• Priming is not necessary.

WOOD

• Mask areas next to application site.
• Sand smooth down to 220-grit sandpaper.
• Wipe clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100.
• Prime with TotalBoat Topside Primer.
• Sand lightly with 220-grit.
• Wipe with Special Brushing Thinner 100.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

• Remove all previous coatings in poor condition.
• Wipe clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100.
• Mask areas next to application site.
• Apply TotalBoat Topside Primer.
• Sand lightly with 220-grit.
• Wipe clean with Special Brushing Thinner 100.

METALS

• Prime metals with TotalBoat 2-Part Epoxy Primer, TotalBoat TotalProtect, or TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat, depending on metal & application.
• Sand cured primer with 220-grit.
• Wipe with TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep.

Stir well, apply first coat.

MIXING

The non-skid particles in TotalTread have a low density so they remain suspended in the paint, without floating to the top, or sinking to the bottom, like other non-skid paints. Mixing is easy and quick, just use the supplied mixing sticks and stir thoroughly. During application, you don’t need to keep stirring in order to keep the particles suspended in the paint.

APPLICATION

1. Apply TotalTread only when dew, rain, and temperature conditions will not affect proper application or drying.
2. TotalTread can be thinned 5-10% with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100, if needed.

TIP: Thin, even coats will yield the best results.

TINTING TOTALTREAD

To get a desired color, without ruining its high-traction finish properties, TotalBoat TotalTread can be tinted, up to 10% by volume, with TotalBoat Wet Edge Topside Paint.

TIP: It's very important not to add too much tint, or you'll ruin the non-skid properties of TotalTread.

Sand lightly, apply final coat.

• After the first coat dries (8 hrs. @ 90°F; 12 hrs. @ 70°F;16 hrs. @ 50°F), sand the surface lightly with 220-grit sandpaper. TIP: When sanding between coats, some of the grit will get sanded down, but do not sand completely smooth.
• Wipe the surface clean with TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100, before applying the final coat.

Answer:	I had the same problem. I bought this item thinking it's Made in the USA and won't have any problems with it. The thing got rusty after ONE wash. I only use normal dish soap, wipe area where my cloth can reach and then hang it dry on the dish rack. How do you guys take care of yours? Shall I just spray it with WD40? Not worth sending it back since I'm not in the US.

Answer:	No, I've never had mine freeze up...ever, and it works so well that we tossed our electric can opener. It was my wife's idea. Easy to turn...opens cans in a few seconds. We love ours.
