It excels at hard floors, although the head that comes with it is a tad narrow and noisy. Here's what you want in a vac - suction. Lightweight. Reliability. Ease of use. Not just inexpensive to buy, but inexpensive to keep running. People shouldn't pick on the little things - if you don't love the hard floor head, you can buy a 3rd party one to your liking (I did) very inexpensively. You want a HEPA filter? Around $10 to add one. Strap? Sure - the part number to order one is in the manual it comes with.This is a great BASIC vacuum, very simple, which translates into light weight, and (one would assume) with less things to break - more reliable. I'm buying another for my daughter right now - I've had my for about 2 years and with a big black dog that sheds like crazy, a crazy cat that sheds like the dog, and most of my house being white tile, I use this vac a lot. No babying. It gets dropped (by accident), the cord gets yanked, hoses stepped on, etc - nothing has broken, it has never done anything strange, it just keeps plugging away - change the bag and filter regularly and it never misses a beat.

Answer:	I guess they're both supposed to pick up a bowling ball, but my commercial unit sure wouldn't be able to. They must have some special attachment that they use in the commercial. If you want really good suction, go to Home Depot and get a wet/dry vacuum. They are loud, but they have the BEST suction for corners, baseboards, and dog hair. I have been quite disappointed with the Oreck and have gone back to using my wet/dry vacuum.

Answer:	I can't say for sure, but I am a small woman 76 years old, weigh 105 pounds and I clean upstairs and downstairs carrying this vacum cleaner in a couple hours and it doesn't feel heavy to me, nor do I have any aches and pains from vacuuming. This vacuum cleaner is powerful and so wonderful.

Answer:	I'd suspect that ALL of the answers are incorrect except "I don't know". Vacuums are rated in amps. From the Hoover commercial website: 7.4 amps. Way less than 2.2HP...
Question:	Does this lay flat enough to vacuum under a large bed with just a few inches of clearance
Answer:	Yes...it's flat enough to do under the bed. It's even flat enough to go under my sectional couch and oversized chair and ottoman. Great vacuum...plenty of power.

Answer:	That is what I purchased it form - to pick up kitty litter from my bathroomn floor. The handheld component works good but wanted it for the broom component. Even with it fully charged, it only picks up about 50% of the litter. I am very disappointed as it is not the quality of Dirt Devil product.
Question:	Does this vacuum have a powered beater bar. The brush roll description is not clear
Answer:	Yes it has a powered beater bar. But it does trap a lot, and I mean a lot of hair. I find that I have to pull hairs out from being tangled around the brush bar after every use. I'm guessing the bristles are too long and not dense enough to allow the hairs to pass into the vacuum and instead winds around the bar.
Question:	Will the handle lay flat to the floor to vacuum under a bed in a carpeted room? How much clearance is needed
Answer:	The handle lays flat to the floor. I measured and you would need 6 inches of clearance. This is so the body of the vacuum can have clearance and not the handle. I have been very pleased with mine. It is easy to maneuver and is light weight enough that it does not cause me to be in pain later after using it. I have not been able to use a heavier vacuum because of the pain I would suffer later. With Fibromyalgia I have to be careful of what I do or use. Keep in mind that this is a light weight vacuum and the motor is not as strong as a regular vacuum. This is great for quick clean ups. It can be used for heavier cleaning, but it will take several passes with this vacuum to get the area as clean as a larger vacuum would do. I hope this answers your question. It will lay flat enough to vacuum under your bed.
