Answer:	We have tested it on carpet spots of several sizes, types, and ages. For any stain that's same-day, it'll clean it out really well, way better than any spot cleaning solution will. For spots that are a few days old, it will do pretty well, but you may have a slight tinge left over and/or you may have to go over the spot a few times. For older stains, you'll probably be left with some staining even after a few go-overs, but it will look much better than it did before. It can even make a very noticeable difference on stains that are several years old.The caveats - it's a small cleaner, so cleaning anything larger than a fist-sized spot is going to take a pretty long time (15-30 mins+ for each go-over, depending on how deep the stain is), and it can end up cleaning a spot so well that it becomes cleaner than the surrounding area, which would required a larger floor steam cleaner to even everything out.But yes, if your carpet is at risk for small stains, and you're good with breaking this out same day, then absolutely this will take most spots out of carpets.

The brushes are all the same material (aside from the optional brass brush) but the color difference is for keeping them apart which gives you the option to use one color in one area. So you could for instance use only the red brush in your bathroom and the green brush in your kitchen.

Answer:	The pad not pictured is the one with three holes. I did not have when I ordered, nor do I see now, any option to select the type of pads you want. Aside from reading Q/A and comments, you would not know you are getting a pad with holes as one of the two-pack. Lesson learned. I do think the solid one was thicker than any in my stash of originals, but maybe they just seem to have thinned with use and laundering.

If there IS suction at the back of the machine with the hose removed, follow these steps: Unplug the unit from the outlet. Check the Pre- and Post-Motor filters for debris. Dirty filters can restrict airflow. The Pre-Motor Foam Filter is square. You can find it in a pull-out tray under the Dirt Tank. The Foam Filter may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Reinstall the filter when it’s completely dry. The Multi-Layer Post-Motor Filter is rectangular. It can be found on the side of the machine. Note: The white Multi-Layer Post Motor Filter isn’t washable. Make sure the dirt tank is empty. Check the upper tank for build-up or clogs. If it needs to be cleaned, use a short, Phillips-head screwdriver and take off the separator plate with a cloth (can be dampened with water or mild detergent). Replace dirt tank. Check for good suction at the end of the upholstery hose. If there’s good suction, make sure the hose is connected firmly to the lower hose on the back of the vacuum. The access panel can be taken off by lifting the four tabs on the bottom of your machine. Clearing clogs detach the Upper Hose from the machine. Insert a broomstick into the hose to push any obstruction through. Remove the screw from the left side of the lower hose on the back of the unit. Straighten this section of hose by pulling it down or laying the unit on its side with the lower hose towards the top side. Look through the hose for any obstruction. Answer:	Sorry to tell you this - I've had my first machine for yr and it worked fine until it would no longer spray- since it was old I thought some part must have worn out - and since it had given me many yrs of great service - I just went out and bought another one - I have had this new one for just about a yr and now the same problem is happening to this one - I've given up and use a spray bottle to apply solution and the machine to pick up the residue - I'll have to be in touch with the company - but this does seem like it could be a chronic problem.

Question:	What is the difference between this and the SteamVac also by Hoover
Answer:	I have been comparing them to decide which one I want, this one (hoover Power Scrub) has automatic mixing of the detergent solution and the water, so you can choose a water only (rinse) or water with cleaning solution. The SteamVac, you must mix the solution in the water tank, so in order to rinse you would have to completely empty out the clean tank and then add just water. The power scrub only turns off the scrub brushes when the handle is in the upright and locked position. The scrub brushes on the SteamVac can be adjusted for gentle, normal, and off. They both use heated air on the dry (suction) strokes to help with drying. It looks like the SteamVac might be a little cheaper but then it doesn't come with all the attachments the power Scrub does. In fact it is a little vague on which attachments come with it. I checked the owners manual for both of these for this information. The Power Scrub is about 2 pounds lighter than the SteamVac. The assembly of the SteamVac seems a lot more involved. I think I am about sold on the Hoover Power Scrb Deluxe carpet cleaner.
Question:	can the brushes be shut off
Answer:	There is a rubber flap on the back of the dirty water tank. If you open that, it breaks the airflow that drives the brushes. It won't pick up liquid while the flap is open though, so I spray and scrub with it open, then seal the flap to extract liquid. I'm not sure if that is the purpose of the flap, but it works.
Question:	Do i have to rinse after i shampoo? seems like an annoying extra step. never had a carpet cleaner that did that
Answer:	If you think of shampooing your carpet like shampooing your hair, it makes sense to rinse. Adding shampoo to you hair and then stepping out of the shower might make your hair clean, but it's not going to be soft. Long ago (LONG ago) when I shampoo'd carpets as part of my job, we were taught to think of it as hair: (a) Lay down a bit of water first; (b) apply shampoo; (c) rinse it out. If the carpeted area was heavy traffic, do just like the shampoo bottle says -- apply a second bit of shampoo, work it in, and then rinse it out. Over the years I've ALWAYS done that when cleaning my own 2500 sq feet of WHITE carpet in my house, and it always comes out fluffy, soft, and white. Even with several black dogs.
Question:	Would you recommend for pet owners? I have 4 pets and wonder if the pieces are easy enough to take apart to remove hair that will surely accumulate
Answer:	This was my first scrubber for carpets. I broke my ankle soon after I got it, so I only got to use it 3 times. I thought it did a good job on open areas. I did not like how it did close to the edges of the carpet where it meets the wall. I used it on steps and it did fine. One thing I remember is hold the dirty water container tightly when you go to empty it or the dirty water can spill out all over your work that you've done. Once you have figured out how to assemble and take apart, it is fairly easy then. I liked the fact that it gets the water up fairly well. For the money, I am happy with it, I have two cats. Must mention it takes some strength to work on steps and edges, as I used a large toothbrush. But the latter doesn't have anything to do with the animals, I was just giving you my opin of the machine.

Answer:	If you are sucking up clear water, yes the area you are cleaning should be clean. However I let mine dry, pretreated it again and went back over it to make sure and the penetrate deeper. It seemed to work. My carpet had an older set in pet stain that I didn't find right away.
Question:	does it pick up pet urine
Answer:	You need an enzyme cleaner to completely break down pet urine. Especially for cats. If you don’t remove all of the urine, it will eventually start to smell again and could cause the pet to pee there in the future.
Question:	what is the total weight and motor capacity
Answer:	The thing weighs about 12 pounds. I don't know what you mean by motor capacity, but if you go over the same area too many times it'll pull the carpet fibers up. My office was a mess. I had Stanley steamer come in a year or so ago and they did an okay job. This thing was 99 bucks and in 20 minutes did a fantastic job. I have white carpets that were gray and now their white again.
