Answer:	Depends on how tight the string is. The string is actually 1 long string that runs down and around the axial and then back up. It is twisted and different tricks will tighten or loosen it. When it is too loose it will not return at all. If it is too tight it will not sleep. your classic throw down and return tightens it 1/2 turn. A lunar loop loosens it 1/2 a turn.

Question:	How much of a hit does using this give your electric bill
Answer:	Backpacks and luggage typically include a mix of items that will come up to temperature at different rates. For example, a heavy book will take longer than a t-shirt. Because of this, we really recommend a longer treatment time than necessary to ensure that everything is treated. While most items treated in a Ranger will be done within a 3-4 hours, we include an 8-hour setting on our timer so that users can be 100% confident without having to monitor temperatures. Electronics need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and as the manufacturer we cannot recommend heat-treatment for complex electronics. Basic electronics such as alarm clocks, remote controls, headlamps, etc. are fine with the prolonged exposure. Customers have treated higher end electronics without issue, but it can depend on the item – cell phones and tablets, for instance, are much more durable than laptops. We will release a series of videos with recommended practice for electronics in the coming months.

Answer:	Clothes will not shrink as they do in a dryer. A dryer blows very hot air and will remove moisture causing fabric to shrink or contract. The Ranger is a sealed enclosure that simply heats the contents without pulling away the humidity. For example, if you place damp clothing into the unit, the material will heat up and destroy any bed bugs, but it will not actually dry the clothing. Regarding shoes: Some synthetic materials may hold their shape if the shoes were tightly packed and 'squished' before treatment. Athletic shoes or fabric uppers have no issues. If after a treatment shoes are misshapen, they can generally be reshaped by either wearing the shoes - or by compressing material inside the shoe and letting them sit for a while.
Question:	Would it be safe to treat desk top computers and stereo receiver and speakers etc, in this device? Also, how long does one load take to treat
Answer:	The Ranger is perfectly safe all types of fabrics – including wool, leather, silk, cotton, etc. The temperatures inside the Ranger are similar to a car on a hot summer day or a commercial dryer. The heat, of course, is being uniformly delivered on all sides and maintained for several hours to ensure everything is treated.

Thermal Units

The ZappBug Heater includes one 120-volt, 1500-watt thermal unit, which requires an independent 120-volt circuit to operate.

The thermal unit includes a timer that you can set. Once the set time is complete, the unit will shut-off.

The thermometer and wireless sensor (included) will allow monitoring of the temperature inside items within the unit. When placing items in the ZappBug Heater, it is essential to allow 6-to-12 inches of space between your items and the thermal unit. If the warning light is on, remove any items blocking airflow from around the thermal unit and allow 20 minutes for to cool before restarting the treatment.

Best Practices

Airflow is the key to eradication success. Leave at least 2 inches of space around items for hot air to circulate. All items need to be placed on the included blocks and/or support net to allow airflow around the bottoms, tops, and sides of items.

It is best to place the ZappBug Heater on a carpet, area rug, or blanket during treatment. Hardwood flooring, linoleum, or concrete will absorb heat from the unit during the treatment. Placing the Heater on a carpet, thick blankets, towels, foam pads, or even cardboard will provide the necessary insulation for effective operation during the thermal treatment.

It is best to load the ZappBug Heater more often with small to medium-sized loads. Large loads take longer periods of time to heat the items and are less efficient.

Answer:	The heater is rated at 1.5 killowatts (1500W) and the average cost of electricity in the US is $.12kw/hr. So at the recommended/max treatment time of 6hrs they all multiply together to get $1.08 per run.
Question:	Can this be used for a couch
Answer:	Hello,We always recommend running the unit for 1 hour once it reaches 120F, but the time to reach 120F will vary depending on how much you place inside. In most cases it will take 3-4 hours to reach temperature, so 4-5 hours total is pretty normal for this unit. With smaller loads it can be faster, and if you're treating very large items like a duvet it can take longer. If you're not able to be there to monitor the treatment then we recommend selecting the 8 hour option on the timer as that will be sufficient for almost every load. Best,ZappBug
Question:	Can the shelves be removed to fit larger furniture in this
Answer:	I am not sure but i know the heat can be quite high inside. I have measured it at over 145 degrees in different places. It was high enough to melt a medicine bottle one time and melt the glue on the sole of and old pair of shoes another time. So my guess is it could melt the thin plastic protective cover.
Question:	Can I order extra shelves
Answer:	Yes, it it safe to treat electronics in a device like this. The components in most electronics will withstand temps higher than 130F. Most commercial electronics have a rated max around 70C (~159F) . I'd say it takes 60-120 minutes, depending on what you put in the device. You get a basic thermometer to track the temp. Put the batteries in the "outside" thermometer on first, then put the batteries in the one with the LCD display. Bury the outside therm as deep as you can among the items in the enclosure. You should see temps on both sides of the display. I got it to treat luggage after trips and thrift store finds. It holds quite a bit, and folds to a small size for storage.

Answer:	I have gotten wrinkles out of my suit using this product but please read your clothing label first. Some materials can not take the heat.

Answer:	It didn’t do well cleaning my bathtub and sink. I had better luck and spent less time and energy using a mixture of baking soda and bleach for the mold around the tub. Used vinegar to clean the sink. I wouldn’t recommend this product for bathroom.

Thermal Units

Answer:	When I ordered the replacement Floor Nozzle Hose I received everything shown in the picture which was the nozzle hose and 2 extra filters thrown in. These are foam replacement filters used in the canister. Price was right and I sure needed those filters. Hope this was helpful.

Question:	What is the difference between Harris diatomaceous earth and Harris bed bug killer diatomaceous earth
Answer:	None that I know of.
Question:	Is it pet friendly
Answer:	Yes. This stuff just comes from "diatoms". Basically, their crustaceans. It cuts the bugs exoskeleton and they dry out, but it takes time for them to pass through the dust for it to cut them up and they lose body water. Doesn't hurt us or animals, but I wouldn't dust it to the extent that you and the pets are breathing it so much. Make sure you change your house filters often or it can clog up the systems and you will have another issue. Whatever you use...if it says "residual", that is what is not safe for pets. It can get in their pads and absorb poison into their feet. Most other control treatments just need to get dry for 8hrs.
Question:	how would this be used to prevent bed bugs
Answer:	I have lived through this nightmare with tenants bringing. If you rent, do NOT try to do it yourself, depending on the infestation they can be hard to eradicate. Do the right thing and notify. Don't risk taking them to someone else's property if you move. Look up how to check for them carefully with flashlight. I used a professional company--3 sprays 2 weeks apart using a different mix chemicals each time, and still a tenant saw one that got away in a box of stuff she had and did not check it carefully when un-bagging, that was 10 days after 3rd spray so had them come and spray again and check, and they got rid of their old mattress/box spring and two ripped couches. I think it had been going on for months, but new roommate was sensitive to bites and figured it out, so I would say they bred for months. The prep work is crucial to winning the war (you can look that up,plenty of info online) plus I have used this along edges of rooms, corners of closets, backs of dressers, drawer backs and inside when drawer removed, sockets, and will continue to do every few weeks after vacuum for safeguard. You don't usually see them as they hide during day, unless you have a heavier infestation, alcohol will kill them on contact and used in spray bottle for shoes and some tiny areas. All exterminating companies will do a free inspection to see if you have them and not hard to learn to check yourself and where. I highly advise to be diligent for several months and not let your guard down to quick!
Question:	Does this product have any other ingredient besides DE
Answer:	This is a mechanical insecticide, that is to say it is Diatomaceous Earth powder, a soft siliceous powder which lacerates the abdomen or if ingested kills the insect within 48 hours. The insect quite literally dies the " death of a thousand cuts " . It's 85% DE and 15% other which is most likely a filler unspecified however. So far my experience with it has been very positive, I haven't seen any insects since distributing this powder. I do recommend the use of a dust mask when dusting your rooms as we should always err on the side of safety. If you have a problem you'll love this product . BTW remember it must remain dry to be effective and keep in mind that with these type infestations persistence is key to winning so don't let up.

Identify, Eliminate & Prevent

Harris Diatomaceous Earth Bed Bug Powder is an important part of the bed bug treatment process. Using a liquid spray and mattress encasement cover along with the powder will increase your chances of success. Below are the steps to identify, eliminate and prevent bed bugs infestations. 



1. Identify 



Appearance

Bed Bugs are tan to brown blood sucking parasites up to 5mm long (roughly the size of an apple seed) with a flat, oval shaped body. Bed Bugs are often confused with the following insects:

• Fleas
• Lice
• Lint/Seeds
• Carpet Beetle

Signs of Activity

Many people believe that bed bugs are too small to be seen. This isn’t true. While Bed Bugs are usually found in the bed, they can navigate around the bedroom and even into the living room. Bed bugs spend the day in harborages close to a bed, couch or chair that people sit in for long periods. They come out at night and crawl to a bed or chair to get a blood meal.

To check your bed for activity, look along the underside of the seams of the mattress. In most cases, if you have bed bugs you will notice dark colored fecal matter in this area.



Next, check the cracks of the headboard and bed frame. Bed bugs, if squished, will leave a dark red stain behind. In cases of heavy infestation, the blood sucking parasites may be found all around the room most commonly in the following places:

• Folds of curtains
• Seams of chairs and couches
• Behind wall hangings
• Edges of electrical outlets and window frames

Bites

Bed bugs usually feed between at night while we are asleep. They can feed up to 10 minutes before returning to a hiding area to digest the meal. After feeding, bed bugs may be dormant for 5 to 7 days while they digest the blood meal.

Although the bite may not be immediately felt, people often react to the proteins of the bed bug saliva introduced during biting. Usually, a reddish spot may develop, associated with some swelling and itching. There may be little response immediately following the bite, with peak itchiness being noticed one to two days later. Repeated exposure to bed bug bites may produce more intensive reactions and itchiness. However, these reactions are highly variable and some people may show absolutely no signs of being bitten while others react strongly. Fortunately, testing has determined that bed bugs are incapable of transmitting human pathogens.

2. Eliminate

 

• Wash and dry bed linens and furniture covers at high temperatures. Minimum drying time: 20 minutes.
• Disassemble bed. Thoroughly vacuum all six sides of box springs, mattress and bed components. Vacuum furniture, carpets and floors. 
• Shake container prior to spraying mattress, box springs, bed components, flooring and baseboards. Allow to dry completely.
• Enclose mattress and box springs in encasements to prevent bed bug entry and exit. Do not remove encasements.
• Apply powder into cracks and crevices in furniture and rooms.

 

Most insecticides used for bed bug control are primarily of the pyrethroid> Vacuuming

Thoroughly vacuum all 6 sides of box springs and mattresses. Vacuum all cracks and crevices within the furniture of the bed and nearby electrical outlets, baseboards and floors prior to treatment. Empty the vacuum contents into a plastic bag and discard in trash.

Handling Bedding

Sheets and other bedding can be easily disinfected by laundering that involves a dryer cycle. The high temperatures involved in drying are critical to successfully kill bed bugs, with exposure to temperatures exceeding 120º F for 20 minutes usually sufficient to kill all life stages.

When stripping beds during a bed bug treatment, pull the sheets carefully so as not to dislodge eggs or drop bed bugs onto the floor where they may be missed by other treatments. Accidental spread of bed bugs can also be prevented by bagging the bedding as it is moved to the laundry.

Mattress / Boxspring Encasements

Mattress encasements enclose your mattress and box spring and are an integral step in the treatment process for two reasons: Firs, they protect your investment in bedding. Second, they reduce the areas where bed bugs can hide nearest to you. Water-resistant, tight-weave fabric prevents the entry of even the smallest bed bug.

Disposal of Infested Items

Disposal may be considered for mattresses, box springs, couches or other furniture that is heavily infested with bed bugs. If this is done, proper disposal should be ensured. Leaving such items on the street for disposal may cause them to be scavenged, which will spread infestations to new dwellings. Be careful when removing the items from the structure so that bed bugs will not become dislodged and infest other areas inside.





3. Prevent



Prior to Travel

• Spray luggage and allow to dry completely
• Pack clothing and personal effects in sealable plastic bags
• Bring extra resealable plastic bags for soiled clothing

At Hotel/Destination

• Place luggage in bathroom while you do inspection. If there are signs of bed bug activity, check out of that hotel
• Pull back the sheets back and check the along the seams of the mattress for bed bug feces
• Never put your suitcase on the bed and do not unpack your suitcase contents into dressers
• Re-pack luggage contents into sealable plastic bags

Returning Home

• Unpack luggage outside, or in a garage, laundry room or utility room. Leave luggage in garage, laundry or utility room
• Inspect luggage and clothing for signs of activity. If signs are found, spray luggage again
• Wash and dry clothing at high temperatures

Answer:	I've used mine for about 2 1/2 years 2 or 3 times a week. My backsplash is just 1980s style formica and I have it pushed back to the stops on the oven. I pull it out once a week to clean and have not seen any damage. I assume it can get hot just keep an eye on it until you figure it out. Also I never depend on the temp being what it's set on, most things I fry or bake are at 225 to 300 degrees and have developed quite good skills on this thing

Question:	will it kill bed bugs
Answer:	Never had bed bugs but it certainly killed fleas in my house. I would say yes, the steam is hot enough to kill anything like a bed bug. You have to give the machine proper time to warm up and using distilled water is the key to making sure the unit doesn't have problems and holds up for a long time.
Question:	Does it clean carpets
Answer:	Have not used it to clean the full carpet but have used for spot and used it to removed large area of wax. I will be using it to clean a small bedroom carpet and seats in my car.
Question:	Does this unit have a low water warning light or shutoff
Answer:	When the water gets too low, it ceases to hold pressure high enough to create steam. The indication on the pressure light gets lower (below 2), but you will also notice that the sound has changed. It is obvious when more water is needed.
Question:	What is the difference between the 1375 and the 1275? Thanks
Answer:	1375 - 90 mins of steam and 20 accessories, 1275 - 45mins of steam and 18 accessories. Biggest difference is the 1275 has no variable control on the steam pressure output to the hand nozzle, where the 1375 has a variable control to adjust the steam pressure depending on cleaning job you are tackling.
