Answer:	About 5" inches. it comes with a few different shims depending on what type of tree you own. if you have standard 80" tall doors inside your house or apt, the tree will have to be tilted to fit under the door way. I also purchased the Vermont canvas zip up cover to put cover the tree. I didn't remove a single decoration. This setup works perfectly.
