Answer:	Measured across the bottom from the outside, it is twice that wide, nearly 6 3/4" on the bottom. The whole bag will fold in half for storage with the bottom accordion style folding upward within the bag. HALF of the bottom, or one of the two folds, is about 3 1/3". That could be what they are referring to, which is too bad because this bag is awesome. I ordered a second one with both an adult and a child now using one. Washes and it won't end up in the landfill--it lasts.
