They sometimes have a yellow tint and sometimes are grey color from the factory as you can see from the pictures. Takes a few tries to optimize roti-making (watch YouTube videos, they help to hone in the skills); I can now make rotis much quicker and easier (more like in one-fourth of the time compared to end-to-end manual operation, from raw flour to rotis). This appliance can and will make good rotis once you master the skills required. Here are the steps I followed (fine-tune as you see fit): Mix 1 CUP (220g/8 oz) flour and 1/8th TSP Salt in a standing (mechanical) mixer Add 1/2 CUP COLD water slowly in portions when the mixer is spinning at slow speed Add additional 1/8th CUP COLD water in portions (if needed) Continue mixing for 5-10 min Let the somewhat sticky dough stand (covered) for 20-25 min Plug in the Brentwood Roti Maker and set at "Max" Roll roti dough into 6 balls (about the size of a golf ball, 2 in diameter) with little dry flour to minimize stickiness Pat the balls to small patties (uniform balls/patties help make near-perfect circular rotis) Place dough patty closer to the hinges in the middle, close lid, press the handle down GENTLY for a second or two; hard press will lead to breakage or push out the dough out of the cooking area Open lid, rotate roti every 5-10 seconds Flip the roti and close lid Roti should puff up Flip the roti again until done to your liking, if desired

But the tortilla maker is made for tortillas and only as a preheat so that you can peel them off the hot plate easily and put them on a hot pan to cook them. I imagine if you place a thick tortilla you can press it down until you spread it. Sure once you put your masa on the plate you just press and press until you spread the masa out. You can open the top plate and then press again if your masa did not spreed properly.

Answer:	Yes they do -- just don't try to max out the real estate. Also, try this: Instead of a ball, make a cylinder of dough with a ratio of circumference by 1 and length by 3 (a weenie). Lay it down parallel to the hinge and handle and press. Not exactly round but more even.

Question:	What size tortillas fit inside
Answer:	Yes this is good for making small roti/chaapattis. You just will have a couple of trial and errors as with all learnng. The dough is mixed by you and the roti maker can only flatten and cook it for you, according to your time as this is not automatic or timer oriented. Big part of rotis not disintegrating is moisture so your dough has to be fresh, and sticky. the dough balls if sticking to fingers you can use a little atta or flour on your fingers to roll and place flattened dough on towards the top and center of roti maker and with a quick motion close and firmly press for 3 seconds or so till you hear a squealing loud noise. Release and leave open, and once a few bubble appear on the surface, turn it over. Again when bubbles appear turn over and gently lower the top section. The roti will swell and raise the top and you know then that your roti is done. It really is that easy and it took me 3rd try to get it. Any roti maker not less than 1000 watts for 8 inches and not less than 1200 watts for 10 inches will do the trick on high heat. Unless it is defective. Most of the complaints are from users due to user error. Most likely too little moisture (dough has to be sticky) or holding the top down too long which will also dry it out. Dough size cannot be too small or too big either.

Answer:	0-10V dimmers usually require special low voltage wiring from the fixture to the dimmer control. A Blink'n'Dim adapter avoids special wiring and operates with an ordinary switch. See ASIN B07H3FDQCT.
Question:	I saw in a review for the Victoria IMUSA that the handle was not cast iron and snapped in half. Is this handle cast iron

Ready to make your own, natural and fresh tortillas?

Start by making your masa dough according to the instructions on the package. For this example, we'll use Maseca: just mix 2 cups of Maseca, 1.25 cups of water, and a pinch of salt. Mix the dough until it has the consistency of Play Dough. Once ready, separate the dough into 16 small balls about 1.25 inch wide.

Setting up the plates

Pro tip! Cut a zip-top disposable plastic bag along the corners to make two square plastic sheets (usually the sandwich size is perfect). Place one of the plastic sheets on the bottom plate. Place a ball of dough slightly off-center, towards the closing hinge. Place the second plastic square on top. *(If you do not have zip-top bags, cling wrap or parchment paper can work too).

Press!

Close the top plate. The weight of the plate will help you press down, and the lever will help you finish the press firmly. Not too much force is necessary.

Peel and separate

Open the press, place the plastic covered tortilla on one hand, & peel off the top plastic with the other hand. Flip the tortilla over onto your other hand and now peel back the second plastic square. You can start putting your pressed tortillas directly on a hot griddle, or on a plate separated with sheets of parchment paper if you prefer to cook or freeze them later.

Question:	Can this be used to press out lefse dough
Answer:	It sits in the main grilling grate position in place of the main grilling grate. You wouldn't use both in the same place. However, this grate will sit about an inch lower because it has no feet on it like the main grate does.

Answer:	I just put on a light coating of veg oil after taking the the grill up to about 500 degrees. Dropped temp to 400 and threw on a few ribeyes that came out perfect. I have the XL - I would get a two grate package instead of just the single side. One more comment - these grates won't rust like some other products.
