It does not have any insulation material, but instead uses an air pocket between the pot and wall of the cooker. I find it heats up and retains heat well. If you plan to use it as a sous vide cooker (which I do), it works very well. I'm very pleased with it.

Chicken Enchilada uses chicken tenderloins hut in half. Frozen corn, thawed then select pureed soup program and start. Shrimp could be either way I'd put cooked. Easy to buy that way. The instruction booklet is a good start. Make your own and versions. I will make some jam in a week or so.
