Answer:	The coating, PTFE, is Teflon. Teflon is a brand name of PTFE. It's toxic if ingested or if inhaled. If you are avoiding toxic materials, this is probably the kind of thing you don't want to ingest, and as someone said, the problem of ingesting arises if the surface material chips or peels and falls into the food. Some reviewers have posted here that this has happened. I pay attention to this because i don't want to ingest teflon. I started using one of these about 5 months ago. During the first month or so, i accidentally hit the upper rim lightly with the plastic rim of my Dishmaster brush that i use when for washing dishes. It's not a harsh dish washing tool, it's a brush, but the plastic rim accidentally lightly hit the rice cooker bowl. The surface material chipped. There is now a very tiny hole in it. I kept an eye on it after that and did not see any spreading of the chip and i have no reason to think material is falling into my food--again the chip is on the upper rim of the bowl, which isn't near the food. But i was struck by how easy it was to chip the material. I try to be careful, but i can't say for sure i will never accidentally hit it against the faucet or something like that and chip it again. I have read comments by some reviewers saying that after a period of time, the material begins coming off even if not accidentally hit and broken, it just wears out. This does not happen to many reviewers who report using the cooker for a long time without any change in the material surface. I love the rice cooker, it's very easy to use and extremely easy to clean. So if i did chip the bowl badly enough for teflon to get into my food, i'd buy a new bowl, even though they are expensive. But if the material starts wearing off on its own, i would probably stop using it. I just keep a close eye on it when washing it.

Question:	Has anyone cooked steel cut oats? If so, how did it turn out
Answer:	I make steel cut oats several times a week and it comes out perfect. I use a 1:4 ratio of oats to water, usually 1/2 cup of oats in the Zojirushi measuring cup, on the porridge setting. Some water will boil over so I fold a paper towel and put in under the rear edge of the top vent where it catches most of the water. Cooking more than 1/2 cups oats at a time might result in much more boil over. Recently tried a 1:3 ratio and oats seem just as good with much less boil over.
