Answer:	Typical of many small appliances, when brand new they emit an odor as result of dust, etc burning off the coils... This smell can be plastic-like and is unpleasant but not generally harmful. I always darkly toast a few 'throw away' slices of bread when first getting a new toaster--then toast the ones planned to eat. The toast should have no metallic or plastic taste to it then and the appliance's odor should fade to nothing within a weeks daily use or so. If not, definitely return it to manufacturers!!

Answer:	I hadn't paid attention to that so, I just tried it. The back and front stay cool. The side are cool from the bottom up to just above the level of the push down levers. There it was warm. As I rubbed my hands toward the slots it became much warmer and HOT on the top where the heat from the slots escaped. I toasted in both slots at the same time. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The toaster is cool to the touch when toasting but its not made very good. Its very cheaply made many time you have to keep pushing down on the lever over and over and it doesn't stay down. I would not buy this toaster again.
