Answer:	No, the heating element doesn't have hinges. Instead, it is attached to the controls, the part with the knobs and the power cord. This entire part rests on sturdy hooks on the frame and is removable. The entire fryer has four parts: The rectangular frame with the hooks on the back at the top, the pan that holds the cooking oil that sits inside the frame, the control unit with the knobs, power cord and heating element and the frying basket. The deep fryer is very easy to clean. I place the control unit on the countertop next to the sink, being careful to keep the cord away from the water and then wash the heating element over the sink. I've really been pleased with this deep fryer. I hope that my familiarity with it helps you.

Answer:	Yes it is very easy to clean. The reservoir alone with the heating element lifts out of the unit, that makes it a snape clean.
Question:	The oil filter it self, does it need to be replaced or cleaned
Answer:	The filter is a built in wire mesh type and doesn't need to be replaced as far as I can tell. The only part that may need to be replaced at some point is the rubber seal around it. Hope that helps. I've been using mine for a few months and absolutely love it. The best part of this fryer is the filter system and how you can drain your oil and store it in the plastic container until you need it again. It makes for cleaning and replacing the oil a breeze.

Answer:	Big Ron,I've used it 8x already and probably could maybe squeeze a couple more out. But, I think 8-10 is a good estimate depending on the type of foods your cooking. I've used it to cook meat, desserts, ect... in all the same cycle of oil.

Answer:	The same oil can be reused in the BDF500XL Smart Fryer™. We do not recommend keeping it in the fryer for extended period as this is not an air-tight storage container and the oil can go bad.

Answer:	You just pour it out of the tank into a container using a cloth or a fine fine strainer to keep food bits out. The oil older has an anti drip lip and it works great, make sure you wait oil cools off before draining.

Question:	What is the best type of oil to use for this fryer
Answer:	The instructions specifically say not to use fats that are solid at room temperature. At the very least, this is because it would be a complete pain to safely clean after use. You would either need to empty it out when it's still hot enough to be liquid (unsafe), or you'd need to dig it out once it solidifies at room temperature (difficult and could damage equipment). There could be other safety concerns involved inherent to saturated fats in a fryer. I recommend canola oil, it fries very well.

Answer:	Pretty easy to clean for an exposed-element fryer. The "spout" at one corner of the oil tank is convenient for pouring off the oil, but there are no deep fryers that are fun to clean.

This oil is a special blend of peanut oil and soybean oil for high heat tolerance and to offset the cost of pure peanut oil.The results were excellent. But, the very best of all oils is Pure Peanut Oil (which is what I just bought since it is on sale for holiday cooking). Peanut oildoes NOT absorb flavors and can be used over and over again. The LouAna oil is also good for several uses-just (I bought the OXO Good Grips 8-Inch Double Rod Strainer from also from Amazon.com) strain the oil into a clean sauce pot, cover and refrigerate or freeze for reuse.
