Answer:	I don't think so. I've used mine for a year on 8 camping trips. I have never had the need for a thermometer. Take note it doesn't get as hot as your grill at home. I just keep an eye on it with a cold beer and all is good.

After assembling the grill (which takes only a few minutes), simply plug it in and allow about 10 minutes to fully preheat the surface while you gather your steaks, kebabs, or whatever's to be grilled. The electric heat has an adjustable range from low (for keeping food warm) to high (for searing steaks). The nonstick grill surface not only means you can use a minimum of added fat, but it also makes cleanup a cinch. The surface has a subtle slope, with channels that draw accumulated fat or other liquids into a tray just below the surface. Answer:	It's not very heavy, but it does the job. The only problem I found with it is that the metal pieces that hold up the wooden handle get hot, so you have to be careful to not get burned.

Answer:	Hot water and the dish cloth ..... but you should know that I oiled it lightly before use and after each cleaning.

Answer:	Yes, mine was slightly seasoned. However, I seasoned mine again. Remove the handle, oil it, and bake it at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. Let cool in the oven.

Answer:	No it does not have book telling cook times for food. I cannot recommend this item. Does not heat even. Bottom hotter than top. Uneven heat in just one plate. Mine was very bad. I quickly donated to Salvation Army. Maybe I should have trashed it. This is the only bad item I have ever got through Amazon.

To answer your question about the safety of Teflon, the answer is that Teflon is safe to use WITH MANY CAVEATS (do not exceed temperatures of 500 maybe as low as 325, do not chip the teflon, do not inhale the fumes produced, do not wash wish any abrasive cleaning products, and the list goes on). To answer Michael R's assertion that, "Short answer : it's safe", I will quote directly from the article he linked to :"Just how safe are nonstick pots and pans? The answer is a qualified one...They're safe, as long as they're not overheated.
