6 best presto pressure cooker instructions

Presto pressure cookers are popular kitchen appliances designed for efficient and fast cooking. To use a Presto pressure cooker effectively and safely, it's important to follow the provided instructions. Here's an overview of general Presto pressure cooker instructions:

  1. Safety First: Always prioritize safety when using a pressure cooker. Make sure the pressure release valve and the pressure regulator are clean, functional, and properly installed. Ensure the cooker's gasket (sealing ring) is in good condition.

  2. Preparing Ingredients: Start by preparing your ingredients as you would for any recipe. This typically involves washing, chopping, and measuring the ingredients you plan to cook in the pressure cooker.

  3. Adding Liquid: Most pressure cooker recipes require a certain amount of liquid to create steam and build pressure. Check your specific recipe for the recommended amount of liquid, which is often water, broth, or a combination.

  4. Loading the Cooker: Place the prepared ingredients and the required amount of liquid into the pressure cooker's inner pot or cooking vessel. Be cautious not to overfill the cooker; there are usually maximum fill lines marked inside the pot.

  5. Sealing: Ensure the cooker is properly sealed. Place the lid on the cooker and make sure it's aligned correctly. If your Presto pressure cooker has a locking mechanism, engage it to secure the lid. The gasket should be in place to create an airtight seal.

  6. Setting Pressure: Depending on your recipe, you may need to select the desired pressure level. Presto pressure cookers typically offer high and low pressure settings. Consult your recipe to determine which one to use.

  7. Heating: Place the pressure cooker on your stovetop burner or use an electric pressure cooker, which has its heating element. Turn on the heat source to begin the cooking process.

  8. Pressure Build-Up: As the liquid inside the pressure cooker heats up, it will create steam, and pressure will start to build. Once the desired pressure level is reached, the pressure regulator on the lid should start rocking gently, indicating that the cooker is maintaining pressure.

  9. Cooking Time: Set a timer for the specified cooking time in your recipe. Pressure cooking is known for its speed, so cooking times are often shorter than conventional methods.

  10. Cooling and Venting: After the cooking time is completed, you'll need to release the pressure safely. You can do this by either natural pressure release (letting the cooker cool down on its own) or quick release (manually opening the pressure release valve). Consult your recipe for guidance.

  11. Opening the Lid: Once the pressure has been released and the cooker is safe to open, carefully unlock the lid (if applicable) and open it away from your face to avoid any remaining steam.

  12. Serving: Your dish should be fully cooked and ready to serve. Enjoy your meal!

Please note that these are general instructions for using Presto pressure cookers. Specific models may have variations, so it's essential to refer to the instruction manual that comes with your particular pressure cooker for precise guidance and safety information.

Presto 01781 23-Quart Pressure Canner and Cooker

Presto

Product description

Pressure canning is the only method recommended safe by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for low-acid foods. Doubles as a boiling water canner for preserving fruits, jams, jellies, pickles and salsa in pint and half pint jars. Also handy as a large capacity pressure cooker. Constructed of warp-resistant, heavy-gauge aluminum for fast, even heating. Works on regular and smooth-top ranges. Deluxe pressure dial gauge registers the complete range of processing pressures. This precise measurement is especially important at higher altitudes. Air vent/cover lock allows pressure to build up only when the cover is closed properly and prevents the cover from opening until pressure is safely reduced. 23-Quart liquid capacity (21.8 liters).

The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry. The Presto 23-quart pressure canner is more than adequate for any home canning needs. It's a professional-quality tool, made of heavy-duty aluminum, with stay-cool handles and a strong-lock steel lid. An accompanying rack fits down into the pot to keep jars up off the bottom, so that liquid can circulate underneath. And it can do double duty as a large pressure cooker. It's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor.

The sturdy lid locks down during canning or cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. The pressure dial gauge gives an accurate reading so that pressure can be kept constant during canning. This pressure canner is also a cooker that's useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains more than 50 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even sweets like English Plum Pudding or Brown Bread! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork, or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this aluminum pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The lid of the Presto 23-quart pressure canner is not immersible. In addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The dial gauge is delicate; detailed care instructions are found in the accompanying booklet. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 14 inches in diameter (17 inches including handles) and 15-1/2 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

User questions & answers

Question: how pressure is regulated
Answer: I am not 100% sure, but I think they are made in Wisconsin, USA. Hope this helps. Suz
Question: Can this canner be safely used on a glass-surface range? If so, what is the smallest burner on which it can be safely used
Answer: There was a time when canning using pressure cookers was deemed a safe method of preserving. However, since 2006 Presto has not provided information for canning in pressure cookers. The information used to support canning in pressure cookers was based on research done in the late 1970's. The current recommendation from the United States Department of Agriculture indicates that to pressure can you will need to use a vessel that is specially a pressure canner, which holds at minimum four quart-size jars. Note that pressure canners are generally 12-quart size or larger. Question: How many Quart and pint jars does it hold
Answer: All of our current stainless steel pressure cookers are compatible with an induction top range. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Department via phone at 1-800-877-0441 or e-mail us at [email protected]. We are open M-F 8-4:15 CT.
Question: How many qt jars can be canned in this pressusre canner
Answer: Respectfully, any time I've ever had problems over the decades with beans not cooking evenly it was invariably due to a batch of mixed old AND new beans. This happens more than you might think, and unfortunately a recent purchase of mine of small red beans in 25 lb. bulk are proving to be exactly that. Soaking an extra couple of hours seems to help a little (10 hours instead of 8) and then bringing to full heat and pressure a little more slowly, then pressure cooking one extra minute than you normally would. All those things together will help when old and new beans have been mixed together.

User questions & answers

Question: Does the regulator is set at 15 pound? Why do some people buy the extra weight
Answer: All stainless with a thick stainless sandwich on the bottom to conduct heat more evenly than a thin bottom.
Question: Does this canner come with a rack in the box
Answer: They now have one available at 8 quarts.
Question: does it come with the weighted guage
Answer: No, it's not that good. See my review. Back in 2014 it may have been, but in 2018 it is not.
Question: I read one review that says the 16 quart cooker does not work with quart jars. We use quart jars only so I would like confirmation? Thanks
Answer: I love mine, the T-fal P2510737 unit. This unit is really only for pressure cooking, NOT pressure canning. The new types are so much easier than the old ones that could overpressurize. One thing that is really important, let the unit vent steam for several minutes before closing it to make sure you get a good seal. The instructions were not a clear on that but i knew to do it from pressure canning.

User questions & answers

Question: How many jars can it fit

Question: DOES THE Presto Pressure Cooker/Canner Air Vent Cover/Lock FIT OLD PRESSURE COOKERS

Mine works great with my ipod 160GB 5th Gen, But it will use up your batteries a lot faster i use to charge once every two weeks now I charge 2 time a week.
Question: Does this part come with the rubber gasket
Answer: Don't fully understand the question - it does work with an iPod Classic
