The red time display is exactly 4" high and is taller, brighter, wider, and clearer than similar models of La Cross and Oregon Scientific atomic projection alarms. Contributing greatly to it's clarity is the focusing adjustment near the base if the Acu-Rite projection tube, a feature not present on other brands. The Acu-Rite projection can also be seen in a fairly well lit room, while the projections of most other brands can not. Of course, the further away the projector is from the surface of the projection, the larger the projected image will be but the less clear the image will become.

Answer:	The 10 inch red model that I have DOES have a dimmer which manually adjusts display brightness to 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, or 10%. The 10% is dim enough for use in the bedroom. Additionally, it supposedly has an auto dimming setting, which does not appear to work on my unit. From what I read in product descriptions, the 14.5 inch and 18 inch models DO NOT appear to have adjustable brightness, perhaps explaining why all of the other answers to your question state no dimmer.

Answer:	The closer to the target the more accurate is the readings. As the Optical resolution of this IR10, is 20:1... so if you place the thermometer to 20" of the target you will have a spot of 1" (between the laser points) were the temperature is measured with a precision of +/_ 4F. which is very precise. If you want more accuracy you have to set the emissivity of the material to be tested in the IR10.
