Answer:	It's a metal. Ive had one for many years and love it but they aren't easy to find. The part that sticks out on the sides digs right into the ice cream. The new ones I recently purchased, to give as gifts cuz I like mine so much, aren't as sharp as mine but should still do the trick.

I just bought some cheap sheets at Dollar General and they fit fine. Now if you buy a temperpedic foam type mattress you might have to buy new sheets. Those kind of toppers are much thicker but a lot more comfortable.

I don’t know what a hush puppie scoop is but I’m going to check it out.
