Answer:	NO The weave is so loose that anything that is not not coarse ground bleeds through. I bought "Extra Fine Mesh Tea Infuser by House Again" for my wife's tea and they are fine enough that they keep ground spices from leaking into the tea so they should work for other cooking as well.

Answer:	I don't know what 503 means, but having 4 yards isn't all bad. I've cut mine in large enough squares to use as draining cloths for kefir cheese. I double the cloth and it works just fine for me. It's also handy to have more than one draining cloth since I sometimes need more than one for draining for 24 hours for one kind of cheese and draining for 30 minutes to use in blueberry muffins, draining both at the same time. Also I don't always wash them right after use. I always rinse well with hot water but then put them in the wash on washday.

Answer:	I used them to decorate small outdoor Christmas trees last year. They do not hold up well in rainy weather. Colors run which I imagine the paint contains chemicals . Curious wild birds could get their heads stuck between the weaving.
