This is not an ‘under cabinet’ opener. It is hand held and placed on the top of the can to be opened. Supposedly, you press the button; the opener begins to move around the can lid until it makes the complete circle and opens the can. Ours opened two cans and then stopped working. Presently it is sitting in our kitchen counter attached to a can. We have been unable to remove it from the can and we can’t get the battery compartment opened!

You then must still use a finger to pull the tab to completely remove the can lid. There are, however, much better assisting products that are specifically designed to use with pet can lids.

Answer:	The opening wheel (not really a blade) does NOT touch the contents in the can. It only contacts the outside edge of the can rim. So the food is not contaminated. Sometimes, some of the food leaks out and gets of the wheel. I use a small brush dipped in warm dish water to clean the wheel. A tooth brush works great.
