2 best rated wine openers

A rated wine opener, often referred to as a Waiter Corkscrew or a Corkscrew Opener, is a specialized tool used for opening wine bottles with corks. These tools are commonly found in bars, restaurants, and households where wine is regularly served. Here are some key features and information about rated wine openers:

  1. Design: Rated wine openers are typically compact and have a sleek, ergonomic design. They are engineered to be easy to handle and efficient in removing corks from wine bottles.

  2. Components: A typical rated wine opener consists of a few key components:

    • A helical screw or worm: This is used to pierce and extract the cork.
    • A hinged lever or handle: This provides leverage for pulling out the cork.
    • A small knife or foil cutter: Often, these openers have a built-in knife for cutting the foil or plastic seal around the bottle neck.
  3. Waiter's Friend: Waiter Corkscrews are often called "Waiter's Friends" because they are favored by waitstaff due to their compact size and ease of use. They can be carried in a pocket or apron, making them convenient for on-the-go wine service.

  4. Double Hinged: Many rated wine openers are double-hinged, which means they have two pivot points on the lever. This design provides extra leverage and makes it easier to extract corks without breaking them.

  5. Durability: High-quality rated wine openers are usually made of stainless steel, which is both durable and resistant to corrosion. This ensures a longer lifespan for the tool.

  6. Usage: To use a rated wine opener, you typically follow these steps:

    • Cut the foil or seal on the wine bottle's neck with the built-in knife.
    • Place the screw or worm at the center of the cork.
    • Twist the screw into the cork while keeping the lever arms raised.
    • Lower the lever arms, using the double hinge if available, to extract the cork.
    • Lift the cork out of the bottle neck.
  7. Variations: There are different types of wine openers available in the market, including winged corkscrews, electric wine openers, and air pressure wine openers. However, rated wine openers are popular for their simplicity, reliability, and compact size.

  8. Cleaning: Maintaining a rated wine opener is relatively simple. You can clean it by wiping it down with a damp cloth or washing it by hand.Avoid submerging it in water or using abrasive materials that may damage the opener.

In summary, a rated wine opener, often known as a Waiter Corkscrew or Corkscrew Opener, is a handy tool for opening wine bottles. Its compact design, ease of use, and durability make it a favorite among wine enthusiasts, restaurant staff, and home users. It's an essential kitchen and bar tool for anyone who enjoys wine.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I buy the charger separately
Answer: Mine worked for 2.5 years. Battery is not replaceable, because openers plastic body is glued, not screwed together. Yes, theoretically it's possible to take it apart, but not worth it - rechargeable battery bank for this opener cost almost as much as new opener. This type of battery can be recharged no more than 500-700 times . So after that - just dump into the garbage or take to battery recycling center.
Question: How long should the battery last? My unit is 3.5 years old and dying. I assume it's the battery
Answer: Yes, it does reverse. It works very well for the new synthetic corks. I have read that the foil cutter holder on top of the unit breaks, but I suspect that is because people turn it the wrong direction. I have no problem with the foil cutter or the unit am very happy with it.
Question: Doe it have a reverse button to remove the cork from the device
Answer: The great thing about this device is that it opens many bottles before needing a recharge. We just recharge it overnight. The manual says that it will take "up to 8 hours" to recharge.
Question: How long does it take to fully recharge
Answer: Well - the bottle tends to spin with the motion of the opener. You would need some way to secure the bottle so it wouldn't spin. If you did that, it could be done with one hand.
