Answer:	Hi! I didn't have a chemical odor with this mat. That being said, why don't you try soaking it in a tub that has a few inches of warm water that has had baking soda mixed in it. That should remove the smell.

Answer:	I got a set of these, then went back for another. They are great for cleaning around the kitchen, like my counter tops, range top, refrigerator, etc., in lieu of using paper towels. Just trying to be a little more ecologically sound. Wash in hot water, no fabric softener. They get more and more absorbent with use.
